I would like to know if this is sterling silver or a cheap metal coated with sterling silver?

No, this is the real deal. Actually, I really like the chain. It has a nice weight to it and I wear it every day. I had bought one similar from Wish and they advertised it as being 925 silver. After about a week the silver coating wore off. Then again, it was $2 LOL. I would buy the Miabella again if I lost this one.

Could this be worn with a 14k pendant?

If I have not said enough, I purchased this necklace last year. I purchased the 24", because of it's size I knew it would be to large for any pendant I owned. I wear pendants on less wide necklaces. This neckwear is substantial on its own.
