Bare Drives BarraCuda 1TB Internal Hard Drive HDD – 3.5 Inch SATA 6 Gb/s 7200 RPM 64MB Cache for Computer Desktop PC – Frustration Free Packaging ST1000DMZ10/DM010

I've been using nothing but these 1TB Barracudas since they came out in 2007 when they were super expensive. I'm currently using three of these in a Synology DS416. I have two of these Synology boxes, which replaced my HP MediaSmart EX490 boxes, which I ran for about ten years. I did not by new drives for the Synology boxes, but rather gradually moved over my 10 year old Barracudas. I started with two used 1TB Barracuda drives in the Synology which were hot spares from the old Wintel servers. Then I copied the data from my other drives, and then plugged in one of the old data drives just liberated. After the volume rebuilt itself, I got a report that one of the drives had a bunch of bad sectors. So I ordered this new one using Prime, and the next day replaced the failing drive. Ok, now it gets interesting. Synology claims you can hot swap a drive without it being in some sort of special hot swap tray, so I tried it. It worked perfectly. The Barracuda spun up and was added to the available farm. I used the Synology utility to then add it to the volume and told it to "repair" the volume. It all worked perfectly. From the time I opened the Prime package until the drive had been replaced was all of ten minutes. The Seagate Barracudas are super reliable. The other two, which are also ten years old, are still going strong, but I'll start swapping them out for new drives, one at a time any way. I think after running continuously that long, that just maybe I've asked enough of them - just maybe. Gotta love these drives. And, if you haven't tried the Synology boxes and you need NAS or a small home or SOHO server, you really can't beat them for ease of use. Yes, you don't get an AD with them, and you can't load a WinTel database server or mail system on them, but if you don't need those, they're great.

This week I decided to get a new SSD cause I didn’t have enough storage on my PC, and I found out that I forgot to activate my old SSD when I first got my PC and only had HDD active on my PC, installing Window 10, all my heavy programs, and everything else on this HDD. I got this five years ago, and it was working perfectly fine until today despite the terrible abuse.

If you're looking into replacing your old 2002 Xbox HDD with something new, this works well and is lockable with your EEPROM. Plenty of space for backing up your games also. You are backing them up, right? RIGHT??

The product itself is perfectly fine if you plan on using it only for storage. Do NOT use it for your OS. Your computer will take 30 minutes to fully boot up with it. I bought this because Windows was bloating up my old SSD and my computer was running slowly. Seagate has the Disc Wizard program which makes it easy to clone one disc to another. Except the first time it failed, wasn't bootable, and I had to restore Windows, losing all apps and programs. Second attempt doing the exact same thing and it worked effortlessly. Only difference between the two attempts was a brief lunch break between cloning disc and unplugging the old SSD to boot with the new one. Not sure how that caused the first failure.

This is my second drive from Seagate. The first one did not initialize so I called technical support at Amazon and they were very helpful and got me in touch with Seagate. When they found the problem they immediately offered a new drive to be delivered the next morning. New drive went right in with no problems. It's being used as a backup to my original drive so that I have copies of all my photographs. The drive is very fast and I can get my pics reliably.

I bought this for an old HP 6300 running Linux Mint after my SSD had died. The speed does feel similar to the last SSD. The machine has no hesitation and it runs smooth. I can hear it in my quiet office but the computer is about 24" from my ear. It's not loud. I'll try to remember to report back in a year or so on it's health. But so far I am impressed. And the price was perfect.

Had a WD that crashed. They wanted to charge upwards of $2,500.00 to capture the photos and files for us. Seagate has a system that helps you do this your self with a little computer savvy work. The processing speed is excellent and the install was a piece of Cake. Thanks Seagate and Amazon. Since 2004 I have bought 18 internal and external Drives from Seagate. Only one crashed because I overloaded the storage limits. Easy fix. Love Seagate.

Ich setzte immer gerne auf die Seagate-Festplatten, weil ich weiß, dass die auch mehr als nur paar Jahre halten. Geschwindigkeit finde ich super für eine HDD und habe keine Verbindungsprobleme. Mein PC hat die nach dem Einbauen sofort erkannt (wenn dieser beim Einbauen ausgeschaltet war, was ich grundsätzlich empfehle, wenn man an der Hardware eines PC hantiert.) Kann ich mit ruhigen Gewissen empfehlen.
