Would this work on a varo cube speaker?

You need to compare to the factory power adapter specifications. With that being said, this one is suppose to be 18VDC @ 3.5A but the one we got actually measured 20.3VDC which is a bit too high for a device that requires only 18VDC. The plug end was standard (5.5mm x 2.5mm) which most devices need but check and compare to your actual original power adapter.

is the output 18v AC ?

By looking at the label on the power supply, it is suppose to be 18.5V, not 18VDC but we actually measured the output as 20.3VDC with a high quality digital volt meter (Fluke) so, you really need to be careful with this power adapter and if you do choose to purchase it, please check the actual output. Most devices that need 18 VDC may be ok with slightly higher voltage but then again your device may actually not work correctly or even burn out.
