I do not wish to use wifi in my house, could i run an ethernet cable from my virgin hub to this switch and then feed my desktop and my sons ps4's?

Ethernet is always the best way to connect devices to your router whether it's Sky, Virgin or whoever. I've run outdoor rated cables around the house on the outside up to our bedroom and our sons. I connected one to the virgin 360 box in our room for a direct connection and the other to the switch in his room then ran patch cables to his laptop and xbox. Wifi in general is rubbish so anything you can do to avoid it is worthwhile.

Will using this give me higher ping and slower speeds for gaming than my current hardwire direct to router?

No, if you’re plugged directly into your router that is the fastest possible connection. Just make sure you are running a good Cat5 cable.

Can this be powered with a usb to dc jack cable? saving a wall socket.

A standard USB can only supply 500mA the Ethernet Switch requires 600mA so not possible unless a higher output USB port is available.

what is the difference between the premium and the advance model?

Looks like the Premium is shielded and the advanced is unshielded (plastic port surrounds).
