Before the Beatles ushered in the beat revolution, the British pop scene reverberated to a tidal wave of home-grown instrumental music. However the golden age of the instrumental was destined to wither as quickly as it had bloomed, yet British rock owed much to its wordless past. This excellent 3 disc compilation includes tracks such as "Telstar", "F.B.I." and "Sleepwalk" and aptly plays out with "At The Sign Of The Swingin' Cymbal" by Brian Fahey & his Orchestra, the original 1960 version of the 'chart rundown' tune for BBC Radio's Pick Of The Pops. If you've got that far, we guarantee you've enjoyed 60 of the greatest instrumentals British popular music has to offer! Review: Very pleased - Great compilation Review: A GOOD EXAMPLE OF MUSIC FROM THE BRITISH INSTUMENTAL BEAT BOOM - If you're into instrumentals, as I am, this 60 track set across 3 CDs presents a good cross section of British stuff put out during the end of the 50s to the early 60s -- some backing bands performing in their own right, some purely instrumental artists, some 'covers', and a few outfits assembled out of session men (performing the usual three chord stuff with their eyes totally shut and extracting the Michael a wee bit!). There's nothing 'rare' here, and it could usually all be heard on 'Saturday Club', the BBC's pop programme aimed strictly at teens. There's one or two overlaps with other such similar reissue compilations, a little bit of dross here and there, but on the whole fairly listenable to and good value for money.

some excellent cover versions of tunes but covered by British bands ...
This really took me back in time, some excellent cover versions of tunes but covered by British bands and groups, and some great original tunes too. The collection is in my in-car entertainment at the moment and has been played on at least two trips to Yorkshire and back. If you are interested in the sounds of 50's and 60's pop instrumentals then this is a must for any collection.

Nostalgic Instrumental tunes on CD
Great to hear all the old songs in instrumental form. My hubby plays it in the car, easy listening to pass the time by. Makes a great gift.

Terrific Value for Money!
It's all been said by others here, but if you are fan you simply cannot miss this collection of 60 Instrumentals from 50's and 60's. Yes if you are a fan you will already have some if not most of the tracks, but not all I bet and not on 3 discs in one package and such surprisingly good quality and variety. There are a numbe of CD's out now at amazing prices and good quality. (Check the "Best of Duane Eddy" and "British Rock and Roll" and "Girls,Girls,Girls") Highly recomended but of course it's bound to appeal to fans, and I suppose "People of a Certain Age", mor than the let's say - "Younger Market" - I could be wrong!

Some great Instrumentals from across the Pond
Amazing cross-section of a Brit artists & tunes...a one-of-a-kind collection. I enjoy making compilations of my own and usually prefer to buy albums of one artist and make my own from them. But this array of artists is pretty amazing and kudos for remastering of music that obviously came from so many sources. If you love instrumental rock, here you go. And by the way, I always knew as you did, that Monty Norman wrote the James Bond theme for Dr. No and John Barry was brought in to 'fix it' at the last minute...but I did not know it was performed on the Dr. No soundtrack by 'The John Barry Seven & Orchestra'. i.e., I didn't know it was his group, I thought it was session musicians. Also includes a rare TV theme: "Tightrope" (starred Mike Connors) and loads of music I never had.
