Based on the story by Stephen King. After his wife is murdered by notorious crime boss Jimmy Dolan (Christian Slater), Robinson (Wes Bentley), a quiet middle school teacher, devises a diabolical plan to get revenge. Review: Not a bad movie. - I didn't know this movie existed until a couple of weeks ago. I absolutely loved the original Stephen King short story. The movie took many liberties with the story, which is understandable considering the media transition. I'm moving this up to five stars from four. I was originally disappointed with some of the directors liberties changing the story, but I've decided to look at this as a "Re-imagining" instead of Dolan's Cadillac the short story. The acting was great, we don't see enough Christian Slater these days, the cast a whole did well. It's pretty obvious throughout the whole movie it didn't have a huge budget, but the director made up for the lack of budget with quality work and an artistic approach, and it worked very well. This is part of my five star decision, it's obvious they made a good movie with few resources. The bonus material on the disk confirms many of the actors were on board not for the money, but because they liked the story and the project as a whole. That in and of itself helps to make a movie good. If you like movies that get into a characters head, like About Schmidt, if you like movies of vengeance or movies of technical accomplishment like the Goonies this might appeal to you for one reason or another. If you're just a standard low-brow blockbuster, slasher flick, and dance off movie fan or a "just like the book" purist you probably won't like this one. Review: Another fun flick made from a King novella! - I love Stephen King novels and short-stories, and I love the movies people make from them. Having read this story a number of years ago in one of his short-story collections, I was excited to find out someone had made a movie of it. Especially since it was one of his short-stories that always stayed with me. The methodical planning and execution of a man seeking revenge for the death of his wife, and especially in the way King wrote it, was something not easily forgotten. It was definitely one of my favorite stories from that collection. Anyway, I didn’t even think twice to pick this up. And I’ve got to say they didn’t do a bad job. A lot of movies, although not all by any means, are pretty cheesy. But I’ve always enjoyed them nonetheless. This movie seemed more like a regular movie though, for there is really no out-of-this-world phenomena that takes place in the story/movie. Everything is pretty much grounded in reality. It is simply a story of revenge using methods and tools available to anyone. The acting was pretty good, and it was a pleasure to see Mr. Slater getting some work again. I hadn’t seen him in a while. It’s hard to imagine anyone doing a good job of taking the short-story of Dolan’s Cadillac and turning it into a full-length movie, but they pulled it off. I’d recommend this to any King fan, and fan of movies made from his books, or anyone who likes a really good story of revenge.

Christian Slater Has Never Been Better...Stephen King Gets Better With Every Film
Once again...Stephen King is the master of suspense, horror and revenge...right up there with Quentin Tarantino. "Dolan's Cadillac" is a hidden gem. I ask people if they saw it and they tell me they never heard of it. Now you have. Just like "Big Driver", this one will have you on the edge of your seat until the very end. I love the revenge mode in this film. Again, it's another soul searching tale of "What would you do, if this happened to you?" I don't give away plots or story lines. You need to see this if you're a Stephen King fan. And Christian Slater is superb in this thriller. All 5 stars. I'd give it more if I could.

It wasn't perfect, but it was Stephen King's take on a Poe theme
Fairly typical of a Stephen King story. You have a good story and well developed characters. Christian Slater was good as the bad guy. It was an interesting role and he seemed to enjoy being bad. And the guy who played Dolan was the same guy who played Wolverine's brother. He did a good job acting as a nice guy gone bad. I know it went straight to DVD, so don't expect miraculous things from this movie. However it was a really good story, some decent acting, and if you are a Stephen King and/or Poe fan you will most likely it enjoy as a nice diversion some evening.

Not as good as the short story!
I loved the short story from Stephen King, so expected more of the movie. The story went into great detail about the planning and physical work that "Robinson" went to for revenge, the movie didn't detail that as deeply, which was a disappointment to me. It was also kind of a shock to see Christian Slater as "Dolan". I've never seen him in a role as the major bad-dude. Oh, and the language was pretty bad. I'm certainly not a prude, but the language was a little much and not really necessary.

There's nothing worse than a disc that keeps skipping. This used dvd is clearly mislabeled. I only buy used DVDs that are advertised as very good and above, but this disc seems in poor condition. Shame, because the movie is quite good, and a Stephen King hidden jem. Two stars for the seller's mislabeling of the true condition of the disc and four stars for the flick.
