IRWIN Hanson 12002 T-Handle Tap Wrenches, 1/4" - 1/2"

I used this with a BILITOOLS 3/8-16 inch Thread Repair Kit for repairing threads on a lawn mower engine block, and it worked as expected. Like any tool, you want a good quality one, something that will last, complete the job, and not break. This tool fits the description.

The T handle here was made well and would serve it purpose if i needed this. but because i ordered another product that went with this and turned out i messed up the thread size, which was my fault. I no longer needed this. Seemed well made and would serve it purpose.

I have US and metric sets of tap & dies from that discount tool store (farbor hreight). I am only a hobbyist, use them rarely, but the tap wrench included doesn't hold the taps well. This one works great. I have also replaced some of the taps I use frequently with better quality. If you struggle with a bad handle, or don't have one at all, this is great. Note - there are different sizes of handles, so make sure you get the right size for your taps.

I purchased an Irwin 1/4" NPT tap and this 1/4" to 1/2" tap T-handle thinking the handle would work fine for the 1/4" tap. However, the tap handle tool is too small for the Irwin 1/4" NPT tap. The end of the 1/4" tap to be inserted into the T-handle is square shaped and slightly more than a 1/2" across; won't fit. So be aware that a tap's end size for T-handle insertion can be much larger than the stated tap size. The T-Handle quality appears to be fine, but just too small for the tap I purchased.

This tool worked nicely. It was smooth. Got to be careful to not over tighten the tap in the jaws!

This tap handle does NOT accommodate 1/2 inch taps. Max would be 3/8

So much better using this then my previous method of trying to use a wrench. sure it worked, but was so hard to keep a good grip and also keep it straight at the same time. Anytime you are tapping a hole, use one of these instead. was able to use this to tap a crankshaft without any issues and sped up the process quite ea bit compared to before.
