Q: Can i go from speaker out on my amp to get a line level signal to go into an audio interface? like for recording an amp without a line out?

Yes! Ignore the other replies. From the product description and according to the user manual this product will allow you to connect directly to the speaker terminals of your amplifier. But do not disconnect the speaker from the amp, drive both the speaker and this DI at the same time or you could damage your amplifier. Also, I would be sure to attenuate the signal on the input panel of the UltraDI before connecting it to the speaker terminals. The manual recommends enabling the ground lift switch as well.

Q: I play a Strat into a Hot Rod Deluxe. i'd like to get rid of the hum. should i put this between the all-analog pedal board and the amp?

Don't think that will do it. Hum is caused by single coil pickups on your Strat (if it's this the hum will go away when you turn your guitar down or a ground loop between your amp and pedal board ( only if it's AC powered). There is a box made by Ebtech called a Hum Eliminator that lifts the ground on one of your audio cables. This might work if it's a ground loop

Q: Does it work without a battery inside

No. Works with a empty battery conected, using the phantom switch on in a Behringer console, but doesn't work without a battery inside

There are other DI's specifically for computers that would work a lot better for that purpose.While the DI-100 isn't designed for that, you could still find a way to do that.
