if the connected Mac is shutdown and the device looses power, will pcie ssds be keep all their data?

If the device is shut down normally, the SSD are unmounted and retain all their data. If there is accidental shutdown such as power failure, then chances are good that your data will be retained. However as with all drives, there could be a chance of data corruption. We always recommend unmounting your drives before powering down the enclosure. The Mac OS will do this automatically when you Shut Down your computer using the OS prompts.

will this work with adaptec raid controller with expander?

Hello. There are various adaptec raid controller cards. I would recommend to contact OWC's technical support team for more details to see if this is compatible.

Does the box support PCIe 1.0 cards?

Hello. This will support PCIe 1.0 cards.

Will this unit support Thunderbolt 2 (2013 Mac Pro)?

Hello! With the proper Thunderbolt 3 to 2 adapter, you can indeed connect this to a Thunderbolt 2 host. Keep in mind you may be limited by Thunderbolt 2 performance depending on the installed PCIe cards.
