Excellent device to read current and past codes on vehicles; good investment; 5 stars
I ordered the Gooloo DS200 Deepsacan because just recently my 2014 Ford F150 has been throwing codes like crazy. The website stated it works with Android and iPhone but when we received the box, it says that it works with just iphones, which ticked me off, however, it DOES work with androids. To use it you download an app to receive the results via email. And the results are very detailed. Last night we went to the car dealership to finalize the paperwork to buy a used car for my son, who will be going away to college in fall. It is a 2014 Lexus, and, being a New Yorker, I am skeptical of everyone. So while the manager attempted to usher us into his office to ‘sign, seal and deliver’ the final documents, my husband whipped out the Gooloo Deepscan and said, “We’d like to run a scan really fast on the car before we sign anything,” which baffled the guy. When I asked, “Is that going to be a problem?” He said no, and gave us the keys and watched as my hubby ran it. Holy cow! A BUNCH of stuff came up! So we went inside and explained to the guy what we found. He looked at it and said that the one we have is different that theirs since the dealership only reads CURRENT codes, while this one will tell you what codes it has had in the PAST. That’s pretty handy, because you can read if there is a recurring problem. We read about previous problems the vehicle had, but were able to see that there were no current ones. The previous problems weren’t serious ones, but there was a record of it, now… because of this device. I included what came up, in my photos. My husband and I were ready to cancel the deal, which was really going to break my son’s heart, but I would rather know about problems BEFORE I buy it. I’ll say we were pretty impressed, and I went into this, not expecting much. Functionality: It works. On a long list of vehicles that came up, as we scrolled through, looking for the vehicle we needed. It works on foreign and domestic vehicles. Ease of use: You put your vehicle’s VIN number into the Gooloo Deepscan and it emails you a pretty detailed report. Value for your money: My husband agrees that this is a good value for your money. It provided a better report than the dealership itself had, because it provided a prior history. So if you are purchasing a used vehicle, you can see what prior problems that vehicle has had, in addition to current ones. Size: It fits in the palm of your hand. We recommend the Gooloo Deepscan DS200 Diagnostic Tool. 5 stars.

Cheaper alternative scan tool, but you get what you pay for
As a lifelong "gearhead" and hobbyist with an SAE Mechanics license, I've used many scan tools over the years. My day job, however, is as an automotive engineer, which gives me some perspective on vehicle computer systems diagnostics. I'm thankful for the 1996 On-Board Diagnostics 2 (OBD2) regulations from the California Air Resources Board and US EPA, which saved car owners from a future of manufacturer-specific tools and huge costs. Before 1996 each auto manufacturer had its own vehicle computer protocol and proprietary plugs, costing thousands of dollars for each car model and making it impossible and costly for independent repair garages or backyard mechanics like us to repair our own cars. Just ask John Deere tractor owners how frustrating—and expensive—it is to fix proprietary equipment today. The Deepscan DS200 is a good generic OBD2 tool that uses this universal standard. It goes beyond the basic check engine light, covering a wide range of systems: - Engine, - Transmission, - Airbag (SRS), - Anti-lock Brakes (ABS), - Electronic Stability Program (ESP), and - Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS). Most of my use is for quickly pulling engine codes, but it's a powerful tool if you're comfortable digging deeper into your car's brain. The DS200 is also a must-have for anyone shopping for a used car. You can check for hidden engine and transmission issues or scan the vehicle's body computer for lingering accident codes from the airbag or brake systems. The device requires you to download the Deepscan app, with a basic free mode and a paid membership if you want to look deeper into in-depth features—which likely inspired the "Deepscan" name. Using it on my Honda I had to plug it into my car and activate it on the app giving an email and downloading the free EOBD generic program. Which was very basic. For more diagnostics I had to download the “Honda” premium program. It was free but not sure it will be free after the 1-year free access. That is maybe how they get you to pay later transitioning to a paid subscription model after the first year. The other more popular BlueDriver OBD2 scan tool I’ve had for 10 years is without a subscription and I have not given them any of my personal information or email. The Blue one is also easier to use. In summary, the Deepscan is a cheaper alternative, but you get what you pay for.
