Erector Super Construction 25-in-1 Motorized Building Set, Steam Education Toy, 638 Parts, for Ages 10+

I bought this as a Christmas gift for my 9 year old nephew. I wanted him to have a fun but challenging gift that would educate and provide creative and challenging opportunities for him to make things with his dad or me, or on his own. I also wanted him to have something he wouldn't outgrow quickly. This erector set meets all of those objectives; I think it's the coolest gift I've ever gotten him. The quality of the set is very, very good. The steel pieces are relatively heavy, and the finished projects are VERY solid. I totally disagree with the few naysayers regarding the quality of this set; it is VERY well made. The documentation for the projects is also very clear. My nephew and I built the dune buggy project together over the course of a couple of days, and the schematics laid out exactly what pieces you needed, where they went, and in what order to assemble them. There is no text, but you don't need any because of the clarity of the schematics. He played with his finished dune buggy and made his own modifications to it throughout his spring break this year. If you're giving this as a gift to a younger child, you should consider that in some cases it really helps to have two sets of hands, but that of course is part of the fun . . building something together. There are a lot of pieces, some of them small, but the carrying case opens like a tool box and has plenty of little containers to hold the many different parts. Final note: I'm 53, and I'm seriously thinking about buying one of these sets for myself! Great tool for bonding with your favorite kid(s).

We bought this for our 10 year old grandson for Christmas and he loved it. The blow mold case is set with different compartments so that each piece has it own space and not all thrown in together like a Lego set.

Quality product alot of fun

First...the "Motorized Racing Car & More" set is exactly the same as the "Special Edition" set. The simply changed the name, its the same 643 piece set. Second, their is a problem with the motorized unit. The switch design on the battery pack is extremely poor. If the switch is not fully thrown to the left or right or fully in the center off, it will melt and be rendered useless. My son and I built the airplane model first(he's 6, took us a few hours together), and after 10 minutes of play the motor quit working(no, not 10 minutes of continuous running). Well, he hadn't quite thrown the switch fully, and after taking it apart the flaw was apparent. Its a proprietary double pole, double throw switch built on a PCB board. There isn't enough space between the board contacts. If the switch is in between positions, the contactor is shorting the positive and negative leads of the battery pack together on the board. This causes lots of heat, quickly heats the thin metal contactor, and in the process melts the switch handle. In my opinion it should recalled, I don't know if its possible to melt or rupture 4 AA batteries by shorting them, but they got really warm. I had to rig up a new submini DPDT switch as a replacement on the outside of the unit. Otherwise....it's a great erector set. We built the crane after I fixed the battery pack. It's pretty awesome. It uses a 48:1 gear reduction(more like pulley reduction), on the motor and it can lift quite a bit of weight for a toy. Both the boom and the cable of the crane run off the motor, it's a pretty ingenious model I think. Crane also rotates on the base via a manually controlled wheel. Took him, with my help, most of a Saturday plus a couple hours of the following Sunday.

I actually purchased this for myself as a boy in his mid-20's, and I definitely don't regret it. I've always heard decent things about erector sets in the past, and I figured I'd give it a try. I purchased this originally just to build a few of the models in this set, but then I actually started implemented the steel/construction pieces from this set into making my own custom Arduino based robot. I just added things to a chassis I already had, and made it my own. If you're probably thinking of doing the same thing, definitely worth it. It's high quality parts and steel, they don't bend too easily. You can literally make anything out of them since each piece has holes all throughout them, making it easy to bolt things anywhere. Good set, the case itself is organized on the inside instead of other toys you buy these days where you buy them, and they're just bags of things all together. The case is the storage, so you won't need to purchase additional storage or worry about losing things. I can see where this product might be a little too advanced for some children if you're trying to build the models, but it's a great learning curve in a more technical aspect of building. Anyways, I definitely recommend it since you can implement these pieces into a ton of things outside of the actual models presented in the pictures (they're cool, but the idea of engineering your own works is a bit cooler).

Fun product for teaching mechanical and engineering or physics. An awesome winter time parent/child project. The instructions can be daunting to children and cause some frustration it is important to participate and guide your child thru this the first few times. I had a set as a kid 40 years ago and i built many amazing things that werent in the instructions and played with it until i was old enough to ride and wrench on my own go karts and mini bikes. As a kid i learned so much from this. In the mechanical aptitude test i took as a child i scored the top of my class. If you have a child interested in mechanical things i highly recommend this.

1. First off, the set is nicely put together, and the case looks great, unfortunately the square nuts and other tiny pieces will fall out of their individual compartments, regardless if the instructions are left inside or not. So I got a sheet of packing foam, then cut it to the size of the box to help seal each compartment. 2. The instructions are somewhat confusing when gauging the size of spacers and the length of screws. When you first start out you’ll probably use the wrong screw lengths and spacers, but as you become more familiar with the parts, things go a bit smoother/quicker. The gauge used on the instructions for screws do not match the built in gauge indicator on the box, but underneath the top tray, there’s a built in ruler on the bottom of the inside of the box (it’s kind of hard to read the ruler without good lighting though). 3. I wished that more metal parts were used instead of rubber and plastic. Instead of the clear silicone bushings, they should’ve included “set screw collars” for all of the metal shafts, just like the two brass ones they provide. 4. The tools were kinda junky and awkward to use. I can see the benefit of having the wrench offset, but a straight wrench would’ve been handy, as well as being magnetized. I was able to make mine magnetic by rubbing a powerful magnet on it. The Allen wrenches need to have a ball end for driving the bolts at an angle. They also did not fit the designated spot in the case because they’re bent and misshapen. Also, I never stripped any of the screws like others mentioned on the reviews, because I didn’t over tighten them. 5. I didn’t notice any pieces missing, however when I first started, I thought I was missing a bunch of pieces before I realized that there were parts stored underneath the main tray. After reading many negative reviews on Amazon, it seems like a lot of folks were unaware that the tray pulls out with more parts underneath. The manufacturer may want to add a sticker or something letting noobs know about the removable tray. Overall I think it was worth the $70. If you can assemble this, you can assemble just about anything (if you have the perseverance). I think it actually took me longer to build this crane, than it did to build the Lego Liebherr Excavator... which is 4000+ pieces 😜.

If your kids are into construction projects then this is the next step bit difficult to start off with the nuts and bolts but well worth it I would give Meccano a ALPHA +

Great product. Have been enjoying Meccano since my school days. But I prefer making my own stuff rather than what is shown in the instruction manuals
