Yost 750-DI Bench Vise is an Awesome Product! I had a perfect delivery. Double boxed, wrapped, no bent rods or any damage. Vise is Perfect! A few things to note about the vise that I did not pick up on in reviews. - You can rotate the vise 360 degrees vertically and lock it in anywhere. The pull pin on the back engages every 30 degrees. As soon as the vise jaws start to tighten on any object it locks the vise in that position. The back locking pull pin can be pulled out (disengaged) and vise still holds its position when tightened. How Cool ! - If you look closely at the jaws of vises just before they contact, a lot of them have an uneven gap. The Yost is Perfect! - Rotating the vise around its Horizontal axis is simple, but it does catch the bottom serated plate if you don't unscrew both LH and RH handles about 2 full turns. Then it rotates perfectly. I saw that some of the posts talked about putting a spring on top of the bottom plate and over the bolt. I did this and the spring forces the lower locking plate down with only 1 turn of both LH and RH handles. The rotating design is Awesome the way it is. When tightened, the plate nestles into grooves that totally prevent the vise from turning when reefing on a long object. - Flipping (rotating) the vise over putting the pipe clamp up top. Wow! Floating replaceable clamping teeth that center on your round object. Really works fantastic! - The clamping depth of the vise is way more than most. There is a step in the cast that reduces the depth a little, but I am really happy with an extra inch. Hummm......... That almost doesn't sound right. - The finish is really good. The anvil has absolutely no damage or imperfections and takes a good hit using my 4-pound Est Wing (Made in USA) Sledgehammer. -Cranking the Vise Jaws all the way in/out is buttery smooth, and there is a Stop at the End, so jaw doesn't fall out. I Highly Recommend this Product. I am so happy. I have been performing manufacturing for 40 years and this is a good product. You will be surprised.

Shopping for a vise in a moderate price-range is not easy, seeing how high-quality forged models can cost anywhere from $700 to $2000. To me, $200 is a lot to spend on a vise, so I dedicated a long time to researching different options in-depth before I was confident I wasn't going to throw this much money down the drain and face paying huge return shipping on a 65lbs parcel. I was looking for a strong (ductile iron) and versatile vise with multiple positioning and at least two types of jaws, so that all items of all shapes can be locked at different angles with easy access for both general and detailed work—filing, machining, drilling. I do a lot of DIY + basic machining (making knives and tools), and at least for my needs and purposes this vise is the best in its class, and definitely the best you can get for the price. I'm very particular about finding quality tools which do the job they say they do without failure, and I'm confident that this vise will perform exceptionally and last me till old age. Don't let the review by R. G. give you the wrong impression—unless you receive a rare lemon, there is nothing wrong with this vise, and for most everyone it arrived consistently in excellent condition. The overall finish, paint, fit and machining of parts and surfaces is excellent, and the jaws do align perfectly (that was one of my main concerns). In addition, all jaws including pipe jaws are replaceable, which is very important and unique to this model. Regardless of casting thickness, the strength of ductile iron is three times higher than the brittle grey cast iron used in cheaper models, and proves to be fully secure and sufficient for non-industrial needs—it's suitable for all types of work, with the exception of forging. NOTE: Be sure to follow the installation instructions detailed in the top-voted review by encanto, including the addition of two small springs underneath the base of the vise—very easy and worthy modification which guarantees smooth base rotation. This vise is a beast and about the best I could find for anywhere close to the price. It opens a full 5" as described, unlike some of the other vises I looked at during my long search for a decent vise. This is big enough & strong enough to handle anything I'll do in my home shop. I'll be mounting it to a steel, heavy-duty, rolling workbench so I can move it all around my home shop. It is very heavy you will want to mount it properly, especially if you put any load on it with the jaws open to any width at all. It could easily destroy the particle board countertop that you see in the pics, even if bolted on, just due to the weight, so you'll want to reinforce your workbench or mount it to a steel bench, which I will do over the weekend. Fit and finish is excellent and the dual locking bolts are heavy-duty and actually hold this vise firm as a rock, unlike my old cheap vise, which still wobbled no matter how tight I tried to lock the rotation with the locking bolt. At the current market price of just under $200, this vise is an excellent value, plus I signed up for the Amazon cc and used the $100 credit to offset the cost of this vise. Yes, it's made in China, but you won't find anything made in the USA that's under $500 & it's the best offshore vise I've seen for the money, by far. (PS: don't confuse this vise with the Yost 750E, a lighter, smaller, vise that is significantly less robust).

I bought this vise last week, and finally got around to building a mount for it today. I haven't actually used it yet, but I can give you my initial impressions. Overall I'm happy with it at this point, but it does have some flaws. Design: Out of the box, the first thing I noticed is that this thing is heavy. It's got a lot of gravity to it, and for a vise that's a good thing. That means it's got a lot of metal in it, which means all the castings are thicker and as a result it's probably stronger. In addition, Yost advertises this as 60,000 psi cast iron, which is standard on mid level vises and stronger than the 30,000 psi cast iron that is standard on cheap vises. I have no way of testing which this vise is actually made of, but seeing that it was made in china I have my doubts. The position locking on the rotation of both directions is top-notch. This vise will stay in place when you lock the base rotation and pin the head rotation. The handle on the lead screw is mounted too close to the head, to where my hands (which are not huge, but not small either) were getting caught between the handle and the head while screwing the jaws open/closed. This is a very tall vise, approximately 11" from the bottom of the base to the top of the jaws. It's not the end of the world, but as a short guy that does make it more uncomfortable for me to use. The jaws open 5" and there's a stop so you can't keep opening past that. The dynamic jaw has a 'collar' cast around the slide that sticks out past the jaw insert, which makes clamping things more difficult. I'm planning on shimming the jaw insert out even with or a little past that collar, but it will take about 1/2" away from the opening capacity of this vise. Fit and finish: The paint is not perfect but it's good enough for something that's going to see a lot of abuse in the shop. Specifically, the lines between bare and painted areas are sloppy. Also the castings look good, but there are minor flaws in the castings. The entire thing was oily out of the box, which means it's got no surface rust but handling and installation were a messy process. Do note that there is no grease on the lead screw or the slide. If you're relying on oil lubrication, figure on re-oiling this vise often. I'll be cleaning off the oil and greasing the important areas. The jaw inserts do not line up perfectly. They come together flat, but one's shifted right and one shifted left by about 1/8". The faces of the jaw inserts are cut in a grid for grip, but it's a very very shallow pattern with flat tops to the 'teeth' of the pattern, so I don't expect it to grip very securely. When tightened down lightly with nothing in the vise, the handle hangs almost straight down. Note that if you are mounting this to the top of a toolbox, and not hanging off the side like I did (see pictures) the handle will hang in front of the top drawer and annoy you every time you open or close that drawer. Overall, I'm not sure I needed a double-rotation vise, but if I needed another I would not hesitate to order this one again. ****UPDATE**** I've now been using this vise for 2 weeks and I absolutely love that the head rotates. It comes in so much more handy than I'd ever expected. I do kind of wish I could rotate it while it's clamped, though part of the reason it holds it's position so nicely is that it uses the clamping force to help lock position. Also, I was right about getting my hand caught between the handle and the head being a problem. I will be modifying the end of the lead screw to move the handle further out from the head, but it hasn't happened yet. If this vise was stolen tonight, I'd have another ordered by tomorrow morning. 1 YEAR UPDATE - I bought this vise a little over a year ago, and it has now become my main vise for everything I do. I have another vise, a vintage beast of a vise from the 1940's and it rarely sees any use anymore because this one is just so much more handy. It has shown signs of wear; the finish chips more easily than other vises I've had, and the anvil is softer than other vises I've had. But overall I'm glad I bought it and am considering buying a second one.

I bought this last year, but decided to review it now. One of the curses of our modern economy is that we learn to avoid disappointment by drastically lowering our expectations when it comes to equipment from China. So, i wasn't hoping for much from this vise. However, I was pleasantly surprised by the quality. The serrated jaws were properly aligned (it must have been a good batch). The screw turns nice and smooth with no grittiness or binding. I also like that it's made from tougher ductile iron instead of the cheap grey iron you typically see in this price category. The powerful jaws can clamp down on pipes and rotate around the screw axis. A spring loaded retaining pin holds the jaws either straight up and down, or horizontally at a 90 degree angle.The only thing I don't like about this arrangement is that there's a tiny bit of play in the retaining pin hole even after the jaws have been tightened down. You'll notice this in the form of a slight rotational wobble. This is not a fault of the manufacturer. It's something inherent in the design, which, as i understand it, is based on a much older American pipe-holding design. Unless I'm doing some critical work where the piece must remain absolutely immobile, this isn't annoying enough to be a dealbreaker for me. Otherwise, it's a joy to use and a welcome addition to my workflow. One other consideration that seems unimportant at first, is the package. The attention to detail in their packaging was impressive. When you're shipping a 60+ lb hunk of cast iron across the country, you can't just dump it into a flimsy cardboard box with some newspapers and foam peanuts and expect it to arrive intact. I see this kind of thing all the time with cheap imported tools and it usually results in me staring at cracks, chips, and bends while consoling myself with something like, " well what did you expect for only x bucks?" That's why I smiled when I saw that Yost didn't cut any corners here. It was shipped to me double boxed with strong straps and a sturdy wooden board underneath the vise to reinforce the bottom of the box. This extra level of care speaks volumes for the pride that a company takes in their reputation. I hope that more companies will be willing to hold their overseas factories to a higher standard. Overall, I'm very satifsied with my purchase and would recommend spending a bit more for this Yost vise over similar cheaper ones offered by any number of no-name brands.

At first I questioned if I needed a vise this big for my shop but now I’m thrilled I chose this, it’s just right. The ability to rotate on two different axes makes this perfect for positioning items in working on in an ideal orientation. Does a great job of holding metal firmly even when doing significant bending. I don’t find its anvil particularly useful for anything other than the simplest flat shapes since the edges aren’t shaped that usefully. But that’s what a real anvil is for. One of my favorite Amazon tool purchases!

Outside of quality vises that are multiple times more expensive, this vise is of excellent quality and meets all my expectations. Of any import vises, particularly Chinese, this vise is superior by a large margin and on par with some of the domestic vises. If you are interested in a rotating vise, this is really the only quality option other than the Swindens Vises which are far more expensive. DO NOT buy any other chinese import rotating vise, the quality is not to par with this vise, and with the Amazon pricing, there really isn't reason to buy any of the others. My impressions of the vise, the weight is impressive in comparison to the competition which would suggest thicker and stronger castings, and another important note is the use of higher quality, Ductile Iron which is much stronger than the brittle cast iron that most imports are made of. The jaws are well machined and sharp, and the pipe jaws work well as they are designed. The lockdowns for the swivel mechanism work well and do a good job of locking the vise into position. The spring loaded pin that holds the angle of the head of the vise works well and slips into one of 12 position. An important note, the pin holds the angle of the head so there is some play while the jaws are open, however once the jaws are clamped down, the vise is rock solid and will not rotate. The leadscrew of mine was well machined with no burrs or crappy threading anywhere along the screw, and the handle is free of defects as well. The anvil is flat and retains some swirls from machining, but is functionally satisfactory. The slide of the vise is well machined and has no defects or burs along its length and so slides well through the body of the vise. Out of the box the vise functioned smoothly and can be operated one handed. For good measure I applied graphite (lock-ease in my case) to the slide and between rotating portions of the body which further improved the function of the vise, as well as some Permatex Anti-Seize to the leadscrew which has graphite in it as well, and makes the leadscrew turn very smoothly. Pros: -All around the price is reasonable -Excellent weight for a 5" vise -Good execution of the multi-purpose functionality -Well threaded leadscrew -Casting free of defects and well painted. -Slide was smooth and well machined -Well-machined jaws -Vise locks down solid once clamped -Shipped double boxed with wood board in bottom Cons: - Not able to rotate the workpiece once the jaws are clamped due to design -Slight play when jaws are open, however it is minimal and non-existent once clamped. -Swivel mount is a bit tricky to use due to the balance and must be held level. -Would have preferred a larger handle. Overall this is a solid vise at a good price and should give many years of service. Just remember that this is a vise and not a hydraulic press, and that cheater pipes and hammers are NOT good for any vise.

I have used this device for over a year now and it works great. I thought at first that it wasn’t built properly that it was loose how it tilts but when vice is tight that also tightened up. it just makes it easier to pull the pin to be able to tilt it when the pressure is off the vise. Very happy with the vise, excellent grip strength. Swivel and tilt comes in handy A lot!

Had my eyes on this vise for a long time and when the price was Wright I jumped on it. Fantastic vise, everything I dreamed of. Easy to setup on work bench if you take your time and know what your doing . I give it 5 stars and highly recommend it to everyone.

What I like about the vise, that it was package very well. It is a strong sturdy vise. It has good weight and you can rotate the vise in any direction. I use the vise for wood and metal. It a big help in my hobbies. It was very easy to mount to my work bench.
