Received and installed: Installation took about an hour and a half but I did it alone. Being very careful when carrying it etc. Manufacturer recommends 2 hours of letting it sit after installation in order for the compressor oil settle, although most people online say 8-24 hours. You’ll definitely need a level, screwdriver, knife to cut foam or large scissors, measuring tape. The pros so far: I have a window still! I can look outside without it blocking the view. Installation wasn’t bad just take your time with the measurements of the window sizing and cutting foam pieces. It cools very quickly and it has a beast of a fan. Cons so far: There is a small issue with vibration, that being said I think if you apply some rubber stick on pads to the exterior mounting screws it’ll remove a lot of that extra vibration. The vibration only occurs when the compressor kicks on, then as it slows down it vibrates less. The fan inside is very quiet on lower speeds. There is a water pump that pumps the condensation outside. The few times it kicks in is pretty loud, so if you’re extremely sensitive to noises this unit might not be for you. But compared to regular box window AC units this is definitely quieter overall. — Overall: It seems well built and the components feel of good quality, will have to report back as time goes on as far as longevity and quality. When I have to take it out for storage during winter it says to empty the water so that it doesn’t freeze. The foam pieces do come off easily for storage and re-use but you have to cut them accordingly. Clean the filter screens regularly, this unit has two filters front and back. I would also empty the water from the front when cleaning filters to avoid stagnating water and potentially mold. FYI: If you end up having to move the unit to another window you’ll have to order a $50 kit from GE with the foam so that you can cut to size again. I’m happy with the purchase because the biggest thing for me is how well it cools and that the window remains visible.

This is a nice AC. Pretty quiet.. not as quiet as the media.. but it is on the lower settings. You don't have to run it wide open all the time.. and it does free up the window more than the media and doesn't have the mold issues. I modified my drain hose outside by pulling through the vents to drain the condensation onto the grass rather than rechurning it in the fan. It didn't seem to effect the cooling here in Ohio any and it made it a lot quieter. I think retaining all that fluid does a lot of extra cooling in dry climates like texas. Kid of like a swamp cooler ideology. Swamp coolers don't work in ohio and the trickling water sounds are annoying. Easy modification. I took one star off because it's a little hard to get set up as a smart device. I'm pretty handy with such stuff but had to call customer service. Was a little annoying. But we got it. Makes strong cold air. I don't think it's quite as good at removing humidity as the media was. My media died when I tried to drill holes in the frame outside to let the water out so it wouldn't mold up. They had a big mold recall. My drill went a little far when it broke through the metal. That was the end of her. I'm pleased with this replacement. A little less refinement, but a better window with more light. Much better than the ones we used to buy. No mold issues thus far.

I was able to install it by myself, and by chance, my window happened to be the exact maximum length possible that this AC can fit. This meant that while I was able to install it, I couldn't install any foam pads because that would make the window too wide to fit the AC, and the AC fit extremely tightly onto the window. More on that later. The unit itself is quite attractively low profile. Much more so than the Midea U shape units. I can actually see most of my window and it's much easier to winterize than the Midea unit that I had. It has quite an aggressive cooling algorithm that works quite well, as it kept my room at the low 70s when it was in the 90s outside. HOWEVER... Since the unit fit extremely tight on my window, the unit transferred every single vibration to it. This caused the sound to be VERY apparent with the low frequency rumbles from the compressor when it kicks in at a higher speed. It sounds like a subwoofer. But when the compressor isn't running at a higher speed, it is pleasantly easy to ignore in the background... not whisper quiet, but it quickly becomes easy to not notice at all in a very quiet room (like white noise). I really wish that I had a looser fitting mount on it to install dampening pads, I am pretty happy with the unit overall. Be sure to also get their silicone caulk to seal air gaps for winter if you decide to leave it in

Not bad at all to install. Powerful, and quiet. You should know that condensate pools in the outside portion of the unit and is meant to be lapped up by the wheel and tossed onto the condenser (outside) coil - this creates a slightly audible clicking sound inside and a very loud sound outside that may leave you thinking you need to drill a hole or return it - but per GE this is by design and they even put stickers on the unit telling you not to drill. My wife can't hear the sound inside like I can, but asked if the unit was working right when she heard it outside (it is very loud outside). I also wish they included a bit more vibration isolation on the underside of the unit as material does seem to compress over time. Finally, the instructions I got were out of date and recommended an app that has evidently been been replaced by a new one.
