The first time I encountered a salt lamp was in a local day spa that features therapeutic massages. The warm, glowing product captured my interest and curiosity. That particular salt lamp at the spa was big, though,--a sphere kind of like something from a Harry Potter movie--LOL! The salt sphere was costing over $100, so it was beyond my budget at the time. My curiosity led to me Amazon to see if I could find a smaller, more affordable one. To my joy, I found that Amazon had various opportunities for a product like this, but to my worry, there seemed to be some negativity / problems about certain groups of products. I read all the mixed reviews from various products, including the horror stories where people had received defective, damaged lamps and beat up boxes. After landing on this product's page and mulling it over for a day or two, I decided to try the product...for better or worse. I clicked checkout, and I didn't set my expectations too high. So, the day came, and the product arrived in a nice, clean sturdy outer box with plastic air bags as internal cushions. The product was heavy, but its personal box inside the shipping box was in pristine condition---no bangs, dents, scraps, etc. My heart lifted! So, I carefully opened that outer box and encountered a white innerbox, then at last, the product in carefully arranged, secure bubble wrap. It was quite obviously new---not some display product that had been in someone's shop and stuffed in a box at the last minute for shipping. I did NOT see any broken pieces, shards, dust, or broken bulb! (The bulb was included; some reviewers had stated they had received the product with no bulb.) Also, one of the best things for me: no upfront assembly was required! :) Once the lamp was free from packing materials, it was ready to go! I flipped the generous-sized switch and received the beauty, magic, and joy a salt lamp promised to offer. In my experience with this WBM International product, everything was in perfect order--better than expected actually, and the product even came with a helpful little user manual that discusses the following: 1) Product Features; 2) Benefits; 3) Locations for Usage; 4) FAQ section; 5) Safety Instructions & Handling; 6) Operating Instructions and maintenance; 7) How to Change Bulb when needed / what type of replacement bulb to use; and 8) company contact information. I suggest that everyone read this information thoroughly before using the lamp! One of the FAQ questions caught my eye, and I thought it was interesting information to pass along to potential buyers: "What size should an Ionic Salt Lamp be to give the best results?" The answer was given with some examples in a little grid, but here, I will give you some of the information as text. Quoted from User Manual: "A rough rule of thumb is 1 pound for every 10 square feet." / For optimal results in large rooms, several lamps should be strategically placed throughout the room." Examples:Room: Office Cubicle; lamp size needed, 4-8lbs. Room Size: 10' x 20'; lamp size needed, 16-23lbs ** **You should be aware, though, that some people believe such products' health benefits to be an outright hoax / scam from specified source, and googling salt lamp scams can be very interesting reading for those that like to delve into more research and debates, You get to see people that swear by them and people who believe its all bunk--with everything in between. It can be really difficult to decide who to believe and why! LOL :) Health Happy product or Hoax--it's still an interesting, unusual lamp to me. The whole product is really earthy and natural looking, and if someone didn't like earthy and natural, he / she may not like this product. People who like smooth, "elegant" products and no jagged edges may not like this product. I, however, was pleased with the unique, somewhat egg shape of my lamp. I find its peaks and valleys to be most distinctive and interesting. From my view, the light's color is rather like a happy, warm orange that rather glows like embers in the fireplace. I cannot speak to its actual ionic health properties and / or as scam folks would say, the "lack there of." I believe that determination comes with more use and time and what people wish to research and believe or disbelieve as the case may be. However, in my home, this strange lamp comforts through its glow and appearance. It inspires creativity, conversation, and humor--really, its hard to be so miserable and serious around a lamp made of a large lump of salt! LOL I feel most blessed to have received a quality, intact product, and it is my wish that others receive the same quality and satisfaction with the Salt Lamp as I have. My advise is to read product reviews and informational articles first before you buy---especially with certain manufacturers as well as certain types of electrical chords / bases. Be safety concerned for you and yours as apparently there are a lot of inferior products in this category from certain providers / sellers! Be sure to look at SELLER reviews / ratings also. [I suspect the seller / manufacturers makes a notable difference between receiving quality and a box of junk --scams, crams, and otherwise.] A visit to the WBM International website can give you specific product details as it relates to uses for their products like the one on this page, its benefits, and even its alleged healing. Sometimes, with healing and comfort, attitude and belief are everything! If you believe something is positive in your life and helpful, then maybe in many cases that something is! :) Everyone's experiences are different. This is a lamp to rest or relax by, not to read by. As with any electrical product, exercise caution AND good sense, especially when changing the bulb or working with the cord. I personally would be mindful about putting this around small children or pets who might grab or bump it--potentially hurting themselves or the lamp. To help other buyers, I have added some images of the box I received. One of the panels confirms the UL listing. // I purchased the "Ships from and sold by Amazon.com" option, and my salt lamp is from WBM. [There seems to be at least one competing product from Ancient Secrets and Tiger Dive!] Again read choices and reviews carefully!

I'm a sufferer of seasonal allergies, yet somehow I was suffering from nighttime sinus congestion year round. I would wake up each morning with at least one side of my nose completely blocked and the other at least partially blocked. My least favorite part was waking up with an accompanying sinus headache. Believe me, it's not a good way to start your day. I somehow stumbled upon salt lamps and started reading about how they're supposed to help purify the air in your home. I had already tried to do this before with little machines, and that failed miserably. As I was researching the salt lamps, I at least decided I liked how they look. So I took a chance with one (this one) and figured that at the very least, I would have a cool looking lamp. I purchased this particular lamp for my bedroom for a number of reasons...its size, price, and the fact that it had a dimmer because my sleep can be very easily disrupted by light. I'm very glad I took the risk because to my surprise, my nighttime congestion has been greatly reduced since I've been using it (faithfully, every night). I thought maybe it was a fluke the first few nights, but it's now been at least a couple of months, and I'm amazed that I can breathe in the morning when I wake up. I'm not completely congestion free, but I can breathe! My other surprise was that I don't find the light disruptive at all! It's actually rather soothing. I love that I can adjust the brightness on it! It's definitely perfect for the bedroom. I like the look of the lamp...I think it's rather interesting. The color varies greatly from lamp to lamp, but generally speaking, they're typically sort of peach to peachy-orange in color when they're off, and peachy-orange to somewhat orangy-amber when they're on. The base is just sort of a light, natural color wood. It just sort of looks like a big ol' rock just sitting there, but I don't mind that at all. For others who might not be into that sort of thing, you'll probably hate it. I, however, really like it...so much so, that I bought a second one for my daughter's bedroom. She really likes it too. (she's 12) I can honestly say, I don't have any complaints at all about these lamps. I think they look great. They actually seem to be helping with our congestion problems. They work perfectly. The price was excellent. Very happy. :) Update - 6/19/13 Just received my 3rd salt lamp the other day. This one was originally planned for the living room, but because of its color and shape, I swapped it with the one in my daughter's room and put that one in the living room instead. All 3 lamps are unique in color and shape, and they are all perfect for the areas the are located. I have not had any issues with any of the 3 lamps. They all arrived undamaged and worked right out of the box. I really enjoy them, so hopefully they will all last for a long time.

I've heard a lot about salt therapy recently and wanted to try these salt lamp air purifiers. I purchased 2 of the 6-7 lb. lamps. They really are unique and beautiful. I was very pleased with the quality. The lamp assembly is very basic there is the Himalayan Salt block itself (with a hole bore in the bottom for the light). The round wooden base is securely attached to the salt rock with 2 screws. The Light assembly then goes into a hole on the bottom of the wooden base and contains a standard 15 watt light bulb, This assembly has 4 rounded feet that allow it to sit level on flat surfaces. Attached to the light assembly is the power cord with dimmer switch. Using the lamp: I started using one of my lamps as soon as I received them and the other a couple days later. I decided to use one at home and one in my office and at this point I may order a second set for my home as well. When I first opened the lamp I found it to be wrapped in thick paper and the paper was damp. After some reading I found this to be normal. The salt does some "weeping" in transit and this is normal. According to the directions the lamp should burn for a constant 24 hours to dry out all the dampness once you receive it. I love the fact that it has a dimmer switch and I can turn it down low at night and up higher during the day time. After just a few hours I noticed the lamp had dried out and after a few days of use it has started to form more white areas on the outside which I assume is normal. I like the way it changes color as it's used and continues to dry out. Do they work?..... What exactly is this lamp suppose to do besides look pretty you may ask. According to the packaging himalayan salt lamps are scientifically proven to act like air purifiers. When lit, they emit negative ions that fight against positively charged particles that cause us to feel stuffy and sluggish. Those positively charged particles which cause colds, allergies etc. are then drawn to the floor or the bottom of the living space instead of the breathable space, is what I understand. In my experience the one I was using in our house when on helps keep the pet odor we have from our really old dog down. I hardly smell her at all as long as I have this lamp plugged up in the room she's in. Also, the lamp I decided to put at my office I left there over a 3 day weekend. I left it on medium brightness all weekend in an undisturbed environment. When I returned to work on Monday and opened my door there was a noticeable cleanness to the air. I can't describe it other than the air seemed sterile. Not a chemical clean or with smelly air fresheners but just clean and fresh. While they are simply a basic lamp made from a salt rock and yes it is a salt rock I had to lick it to make sure. Yes, you read that right I did lick the lamp to taste and make sure it was salt. The both lamps I ordered are pink and when lit they emit a beautiful amber glow. They would look great on accent tables or separated like I am using them. Overall, I couldn't be more pleased with my purchase and I feel like the price is very reasonable. I highly recommend them and will probably be purchasing more. They are hand carved and made in Pakistan. I paid full price for these lamps and this review is based on my use of them.

A few years ago I became familiar with salt rock lamps and made my first purchase in 2007. Since then, I have been on a salt rock lamp craze! These lamps emit negative ions (from my understanding), which aid in your overall well-being through assisting in mood elevation and overall peaceful feelings. I worked in a stressful environment during part of 2008/09 and bought one of these for my office to alleviate stress and it seemed to help. Many people that came to my office said it was so relaxing and they felt peaceful in there. I also disabled the florescent lights (bad for you!) in the ceiling above my desk, but that's another story. ha The one displayed here is such a great deal and I'm very pleased with it. It is large enough for a bedroom, dorm room, office, smaller living room, etc. I have this particular model in both my bedroom and my daughter's (and I have larger ones for other areas of my home). It also makes for a fantastic gift! The lamp comes with a great explanation piece about the benefits of salt rock lamps. This is super to have for when you need to explain to people what the lamp is all about, how it works, etc. Check the pricing listed as there are some offers better than others. Something to note... I bought another one as a Christmas gift and the light fixture within the lamp was malfunctioning. We had to return it and get a replacement unit. The replacement works great, and so do the other lamps that I own. Perhaps there was a bad batch of fixtures at one point that were distributed. The nice thing about Amazon is they are so fabulous with returns and the process is simple. Also, their customer service is wonderful. I didn't find this light fixture glitch enough reason to lower the score, as I'm thrilled with this lamp. The lamp offers a beautiful soft light and makes for a pleasant, calming night light as well. Pets love them and gravitate to where the lamps are. We had a parakeet (Paco) and kept a lamp near his cage. He was the happiest bird and was so full of love and life! Also, our dog (Leo) and cat (Ricky) tend to find napping spots near the lamps as well. They are both very well-behaved. I am convinced that these lamps work. I know you will be pleased with this purchase.

Beautiful

I was a little concerned about the leakage that people seemed to be reporting. This seems to be a natural result of the salt lamp, depending on its environment. Though my room isn't humid during the winter, I was careful to place a coaster under it and monitor it the first few days that I had it, checking for any dripping. It has been a little about a month and a half since I set it up, and it works like a charm. No drippage, and I love it. In the summer, however, I will be watching it closely as my room gets a bit more damp. I got the smaller one (7 inches) and it fits perfectly in my room, and is even rather large looking. Being the smallest size, I was a little concerned it would be -too- small, but those fears vanished when I opened the box. The original packaging, as some others report, is a little messy. The lamp itself came wrapped in a piece of cardboard and then shoved into a box. The box seems to have morphed to the shape of my lamp. However, this messier packaging was placed in an amazon box, with padding around it, and the lamp itself is unharmed. For this, I really couldn't care less what shape the box is in. So long as my chiseled block of salt comes to me in one piece, I am happy! In the daytime the lamp has a beautiful glow and is warm to the touch. At night, I turn it down very low or off. Even on the smallest salt lamp, the light is a gradient, allowing me to turn it to any level of brightness. I really do love it and whether or not it works to purify the air (tough to tell since I don't have pets, suffer no allergies, don't smoke, and live in a non-urban area), it brings a great vibe to my room. EDIT: I have now had this lamp for about 6 months, and I love it. Even in the height of a very hot summer, I have no moisture issues or leaking from this lamp, and it continues to work reliably every day. Even the original lightbulb has not burned out yet. It's one of my favorite things about my room, and everyone who visits loves it. EDIT #2: It has been over a year since I purchased this lamp and I still love it. I turn it all the way on when I wake up in the morning before getting out of bed, leave it on all day, and only turn it off just as I'm laying down to go to sleep. It's still running on the original bulb and I have had no moisture or leaking issues. I am extremely comfortable with this lamp by now, and have even left it on continuously over multiple vacations where I wasn't home (several days of full, uninterrupted salt lamping), all with no issues. It is beautiful, unique, and also doubles as a classy, grown-up night light.

I purchased this lamp as a gift for my boyfriend since he had one growing up. It arrived in a dented product box, which looked like it was already opened, since the sticky seal was not closed and had collected dust and particles which made it impossible to re-seal. Aside from this minor defect, which was already a red flag, the lamp itself was "protected" by cardboard and some poorly wrapped plastic foil with tape manically placed to hold the foil. Now all of this is very minor, given that it has nothing to actually do with the product, but it is a good example of what can be expected inside the foil. The wooden lamp base was not as smooth as shown in the photos - it was very poorly sanded, and to top things off, it was completely scratched up on one side, as was the actual lamp (not like the natural lamp texture which isn't going to be perfect, we are fine with that, but an actual scratch made with some type of black object). The base has a hole in in through which a cheap plastic part with 3 tiny silicone legs and the lighting mechanism is inserted into the lamp, and which essentially lights up the lamp. This base is not stable, and is very much visible when the lamp is standing, again, unlike what is shown in the photos. Since it was a cheap product and amazon offers free returns/replacements, I decided to request a replacement and hopefully get an un-open product the second time around. Oh was I wrong... The second lamp arrived in the standard brown box, but without the actual product box inside it. So basically, the lamp was taken out of the box from the first image shown here, and placed directly into a brown shipping box in which we receive all amazon orders. The lamp had bubble wrap and the standard cardboard and plastic foil around it, again, wrapped in tons of tape. He opened it, the wooden base looked great this time around (still rough and not sanded as shown in photos, but it didn't hurt the eyes), the lamp as well, no scratches, we were finally hoping this was it! Alas, he plugged it in, and the light did not turn on. We unscrewed the cheap plastic from the bottom only to find the lightbulb completely broken out of the base. And here I am now, two lamps in, writing a negative review for this product. I'm sure if we tried another two, three times, we would finally get one without any issues, but I don't want to take that risk again and waste more time. Overall, if you've been lucky enough to get a good product on your first or second try, I am very happy for you, however I would not recommend taking this risk or buying this lamp. In the end, I guess I got what I paid for, and shouldn't have expected more.

There will never ever be a time where I don't recommend a person getting a Himalayan Salt Lamp. Good for the body, good for the room. The soft golden glow is just wonderful for the evening, as lights devoid of blue-light help you get to sleep better. Recommendation: Use a 20watt+ bulb for maximum effectiveness.
