Monoprice Chromatic Pedal Tuner - Black, Normal & True-Bypass Outputs, Easy to Tune Your Bass & Guitars - Stage Right Series

I have many styles of guitar tuners from hand held to clip on to pedalboard mount and they range in price from $10 to $100. Of all that I have, the one (actually I have two) that I trust for total tuning accuracy are my Monoprice tuners. I cringe to think how much I invested in others (i.e. TC, Korg, Digtech) and these value priced units are the ones I trust the most. The fact that they are easy to see and react quickly are just an extra bonus. Great product that is totally accurate at an awesome price!

I bought a cheap tuner on here to get my pedalboard going, but it was slow, like painfully slow. This unit has a large, bright display that's easy to see in any light. It's very easy to use and it's super fast and very responsive. It doesn't hesitate when transitioning from string to string like many tuners do. The dual output is nice as well as an actual battery (Included!!!) for use on the bench without a power cord. I can't recommend this enough. I even bought my friend one for Christmas.

I’ve never owned a Monoprice product before so I took a chance, but out-of-the-box I’m impressed with the performance of this little stomp box. The materials used are good with a metal body, but unfortunately a plastic bottom. All input/output/power jacks connect solidly. Its foot switch has a positive “click” for tactile feedback, something I always prefer. It’s also flat-topped and standard diameter (10mm), so it readily accepts toppers which I install on all my pedals. However in this case, that’s barely true since the top of the switch protrudes only about 9mm, instead of the usual 15mm you find on most pedals. As a result, when depressed the topper actually touches the pedal’s body, but thankfully not quite enough to dislodge it. One feature I’ve never seen before: It actually has two output jacks. One is bypassed normally when the foot switch is operated, with the other being a feed-through that’s always active. Personally I’ve no use for it, but I suppose it would come in handy if you wanted your chain’s output routed to another piece of gear without interruption. The display is bright and easy to read, even in low-light stage conditions. Most importantly it displays cents, so you know when you’re approaching pitch. I’ve owned several other tuner pedals which lack this feature, containing only sharp, flat, and in-tune LEDs. Another unusual feature for low-end pedals these days is a battery compartment, and in fact a cheapie 9V is included. This is of no concern to me since I run dedicated power supplies on all my boards, which everyone who uses multiple pedals should do and say goodbye to expensive batteries forever. Speaking of batteries, there’s a sticker on the bottom which warns that the pedal will still draw current unless you disconnect its input cable when not in use. That would be an awfully easy thing to forget as well as a hassle, and yet another good reason to be using a power supply. Next, the description reads “This tuner is designed to fit into your pedal rack”, but I’m afraid that couldn’t be further from the truth. Any pedal board I’ve ever seen attaches pedals via a Velcro hook/loop system, but instead it has 4 pre-installed rubber pads which must be peeled off in order to apply your own adhesive hook material. While doing that, you’ll also need to dance around the thumb lever for the useless battery compartment. All that said, on to the good stuff! - It is indeed true bypass, super important in a tuner pedal for the ability to completely mute pedal board output when placed at the front of the chain (as tuner pedals should always be). Here’s a little trick to test for this with any effects pedal: Simply disengage the foot switch, then disconnect power. The guitar signal should still pass through, exactly as if it were directly connected to your amp using a standard TS cable. I’d highly recommend avoiding buffered bypass pedals since without fail they generate line noise, and worse often leak output when “bypassed” if other pedals down the chain are active. - I checked it against a much more expensive tuner I own, and it seems to be pretty much on the bingo. It’s not absolutely perfect, but what can you really expect at this modest asking price? It suits my purposes just dandy for quick tweaks while on-stage, as well as the ability to mute my entire chain when appropriate. Since adding it on my board a few days ago it has performed flawlessly, but time will tell as to its durability. For now, I’m definitely a happy camper with this product.

Great tuner pedal. The build and quality seems very good, it has been a great addition to my other pedals. This is my first tuner pedal and I am very pleased; before this I was only using a small headstock tuner and I will not be going back to only using that kind of tuner (by itself), again. There has been no static, crystal clear sound. The internal components and cable inputs seem well made. The led is bright, but, not too bright; it's easily seen, but, not blinding. I plan on using this pedal in a live situation and I see no future problems. The ordering and delivery was efficient and quicker than expected, I would definitely order from this seller, again.

1st one didn't work. Would not turn on. Got replacement next day. Works perfectly. Big easy to see numbers. Quick response. Seems accurate compared to several other tuners. Would be a good buy at twice the price. Buy it.

I am a music teacher and use my guitar in class almost daily. I was initially impressed by this tuner. However, after less than 2 months of use, it stopped working altogether. I thought it was the battery, so I tried 3 different brand new 9v batteries. None worked. So then I tried a 9v power adapter cable.... did not work. Contacted Amazon, who said it was past their return window, but the product should be warranted through monoprice and to contact their customer service. Just so you know, Monoprice advertises great customer service....... but they do not supply any links or information as to how to contact that customer service. So I guess this is where marketing kicks in. If the number of people who actually figure out how to contact them is so low, then sure they can have a high percentage of positive customer service...?.... I wonder how it would affect the customer service aspect if the contact information was readily available????? Thanks to Amazon themselves for making this issue right and providing a solution outside monoprice. FYI, other than writing my name on the bottom with a sharpie, this tuner still looks brand new with zero scratches or dings at all! Never dropped, and always used with care. I honestly can not figure out why it would have quit working like it did. Yes it was used steadily for 2 months, but it was well taken care of. This is disappointing for how fast and accurately it worked. I actually really liked this thing had it not died for no reason.

Stopped working after about 6 months use. Maybe 30 gigs. I figure it's the footswitch, but since it's soldered onto the motherboard inside there is not much point in trying to replace it. And I have not been hard on it. Just know if you get one that you're paying ~75 cents a gig to tune up before it croaks. While it was working it was fine for my purposes. My volume pedal has a tuner out, so I can just turn down and hit the switch on the tuner. Nice and bright so even in the sun you're ok. I just turn it on when I need it, to preserve battery. Since I play bass, I don't need to tune as often as guitarists - maybe at the start of each set.

Overall, this is a great value as a pedal tuner. It works ... it could just work a little better. Here are the pros -Very bright and easy to read display -Two outputs: one that mutes when tuning, another always-on output -Can be powered by AC adapter or 9V battery The cons -It's not the most accurate. There's a distinctive "pause" in the meter when you are in tune where you can move your tuning pegs a decent amount before it shows sharp or flat. It's not egregious but it's noticeable. And you can hear that your guitar is not as in tune compared with other, more expensive tuners. -It's slow. When you strike a note, it takes awhile -- I dunno, maybe 500ms -- before there is a response on the meter. Overall, though, for the price, it's great in a pinch. Would I use this tuner in the studio? Absolutely not. Would I use it for bedroom practice, or maybe even a backyard session with friends? Sure. Oh, one thing I wanted to add. I see some reviewers here touting its ability to show you in tune quicker than other pedals. That is a BAD thing. Think about it: If this pedal says you're in tune while another tells you it's not, that probably just means that other tuner is more accurate -- NOT that this Monoprice tuner is quicker. Just something to keep in mind. I like a tuner to be responsive, as in it picks up your note quickly, but I don't care how quickly it shows me in tune -- that's my job to get it there. I don't mind if it takes long, that just means it's more accurate. Probably the most accurate tuner I've ever used is the one that comes with the Eventide H9. It shows your status down to the cent, and it can take forever to get every string in tune, but when you're done ... perfection!

Great pedal. Simple and effective. Love the fact that you can tune your guitar in silent mode. If there's one thing that I hate is when guitar players start tuning their guitar during a show and everyone can hear it.
