Are these good to use in in solar lights in the garden?

Not likely, most solar lights should use a rechargeable battery. If you used these they would only work for a short time.

Has anyone tried these for strings of fairy lights and do they work as well as the lithium type.

I haven't tried them with fairy lights, but lithium batteries should last longer. But I don't use lithium batteries for most applications because they are too expensive. I only use lithium for my smart thermostat.
