What's the difference between this product and just a plain folate product?

This product is methylated. That means that those individuals who have the genetic defect MTHFR will be able to use the folate and other B vitamins. These will be absorbed into their systems to keep homocysteine levels low among other benefits. If you don't have that defect, you do not need the methylation. Some of us will use it as long as we live.

What is the difference, if any, between Methyltetrahydrofolate and Methylfolate?

The 5-MTHF, also known as L-methyl folate, methyltetrahydrofolate The brand is ExtraFolate-S, by Gnosis.
•        It’s the active form of folate and only the active L (aka S) form (not a racemic mixture of R and S)
•        Stabilized by calcium
•        The extraction process separates the active (S, aka L) isomer without using a solvent
•        Created by Gnosis, the technology leader in active folate supplementation
•        Contains only the L isomer (the active isomer) of 5-MTHF

Thorne's other formulas, such as the Methyl-Guard use a different form, it is still 5- MTHF, methyl folate, methyltetrahydrofolate but the brand is Quatrefolic, also provided by Gnosis. 
•        It’s the active form of folate and only the active L (aka S) form (not a racemic mixture of R and S)
•        Stabilized by glucosamine (not derived from shellfish).
•        This form passes the gastric barrier and is absorbed mainly in the small intestine by a carrier-mediated mechanism, which ensures higher folate uptake

•        Contains only the active L-isomer form of 5-MTHF
The difference is that one is a calcium salt and the other is a glucosamine salt. Overall, both are highly absorbable and providing 5-MTHF.

Newest bottles (November 2014) are smaller as are the capsules, much smaller. The product info looks the same. Is this the same stuff?
