Wiistar AV S-Video Composite to VGA Video Converter Box for DVD DVR VCR Monitor

I bought this so I could connect an original Xbox to a computer monitor. This is for the video component only, no connections for audio, but I knew that and didn't need any audio conversion. The video output from this converter box is excellent, much better than I expected. There is a button on the box that lets you change the resolution and refresh rate. When I first connected it I was disappointed in the picture quality, but I switched the output to 1920x1080, and could hardly believe the image quality from the old Xbox. It never looked this good directly connected to a TV. I'm very happy with this converter, and definitely recommend it for this application.

I plugged it in between my cable box and a PC monitor, turned it on and it worked perfectly. I adjusted the RBG, contrast etc on the monitor and never needed to fiddle with the Wiistar. It works great and couldn't be easier to install. I'm using a 10 year old "run of the mill" 19" ACER monitor and am VERY happy with the picture quality. All budget products should be this good.

Does what it's supposed to do and does a good job doing it. I tossed aside the cables that came with it as they are very cheaply made. I don't dock stars for that because your paying for the device, the cables are a nice extra if needed. I have nicer VGA and composite video cables anyway. I bought this for playing older game systems on a CRT monitor. Systems like the Sega Saturn and Sega Genesis and CD all look amazing. NES and SNES are crystal clear and Imagine my other systems will as well as I am still fixing and cleaning them as of this write up. For what I don't like is some of the buttons do not work on this device at all. I hit MODE and nothing shows up. I try to adjust the picture and instead I have to use monitor controls and since each device outputs differently it would be nice to adjust using this device such as scaling. What does work is the AV,SVid and VGA selector so that's nice at least. I knocked a star off for the fact that not all the buttons work. They don't need to be there if they don't do anything. I got it for a specific function and it meets my expectations. Here is to hoping it lasts a long time.

At work I have an old piece of electronic test equipment with a CRT display. The CRT display stopped working. There is a monochrome video output on the back of it. This converter box did not output any picture. It could be because the video signal was monochrome, and not RGB composite video. I did not try the device with an old video game, or any other color video signal.

Surprisingly good picture. I just wanted to see a signal on a little VGA LCD I had to use it for diagnostic stuff. But this little box is actually quite nice. Very useable for watching an old source even. Recommended if you need a way to put a classic composite signal onto a pc monitor.

Used this to connect an old Apple IIe with a long dead monitor to a modern LCD computer monitor using the VGA output on the box. Worked like a charm. it defaults to Chinese language in the menu. Read the instructions to switch language, then had no problem setting it up.
