YoLink Smart Home Starter Kit: Hub and Water Leak Sensor, 6 Pack, SMS/Text, E-Mail and Push Notifications, Lora Up to 1/4 Mile Outdoor Range with Alexa

After a colleague had a MAJOR leak that caused a lot of damage, I decided to get water leak sensors and picked the YoLink ones after a lot of reading/research. So far (about a month), I've been very happy with them. They were easy to set up and connect, and I tested each one by setting it in water to be sure it worked. All triggered a leak alert to my phone. We bought this starter kit as well as additional sensors to cover all anticipated leak locations at home. We connected the hub via ethernet to our router for stability and so far, all has worked well and has provided peace of mind for a reasonable cost. Initially, we had some trouble with losing the Internet connection, but then I discovered that it works best when plugged in using the actual plug - not just inserting the USB end into my power strip. Using the actual plug provides more stable power and since doing that, I have not had trouble with losing the Internet connection. When our Internet goes down (e.g. a storm or a need for a reboot), the YoLink router comes back smoothly most of the time. If it doesn't, unplug the hub from the router, reboot the router, then plug the modem & router back in, plugging the hub back in last.

Updated another brand from a security system company to YoLink for 5 locations in our primary and a lake home. These seem to work quite well as tested each one. Feel well made. Reason for 4 stars instead of 5 was related to challenges setting them up at 2 locations with each being different hubs, but on 1 YoLink account. Gave up for a couple weeks, and came back to do the other home, and was able to work through the set up. No specific instructions are included, but app helps.

We're very happy with our YoLink water leak system! For years, we've wanted an easy to set up, affordable, and reliable system for monitoring our home's water system. YoLink fit the bill on all counts. The system was set up in literally minutes and the sensors are small enough to fit in tight places. We finally have peace of mind when we leave the house that we won't be coming home to a water disaster. I'm going to give the freezer sensors a try next. Highly recommend.

The YoLink starter kit was very easy to set up, and testing the sensors was simple. A couple of months after installing them, I had my first real experience with how useful they are. I was away from home when one of the sensors I placed underneath my refrigerator started sending me a water leak warning. I remembered that I had been filling a water bottle before leaving and probably dropped an ice cube. When I got home, I checked underneath the refrigerator and, sure enough, there was a small amount of water sitting right under the sensor. It was from the ice cube I had accidentally dropped. Another time, I received a warning from the sensor in my bathroom. When I checked, I found that the toilet valve was slowly dripping water. It was a very small amount, but the YoLink sensor detected it quickly and alerted me before it could become a bigger problem. After these two experiences, I’m very impressed with the system and highly recommend it. I haven’t purchased the automatic shutoff valve yet, but I plan to add one in the future to have more complete protection against water leaks throughout my house.

So far so good. I got these sensors as a kit to put underneath my water sources, such as the kitchen sink and underneath the toilet and the sinks in our bathrooms. I still need to get one or two more to put near the clothes washer and underneath the dishwasher. But it’s a good start. I also sent my receipts to my insurance company and they gave me a small discount, but I was hoping for something a little bit better as far as a discount goes. The app that yelling provides has a section for turning on a response to shut off your water meter which I also have in response to a leak. However, I can’t figure out how much to put in there as far as water loss over a period of time because if you have a complete pipe break, it’s a lot of water to mark as lost before the thing will shut off. So you could still have damage, but I have a good amount of water usage when we run the wash washer and things like that so it’s kind of hard to figure out where to configure the app for that aside from normal usage. That’s why I got these sensors. And I have these tied into home assistance so if the sensor is detect a leak for an extended period of time then they will end up alerting home assistant, and then I can use that to shut off the water. My wife was reaching under her bathroom sink for something and I think she had wet hands because that sensor alerted once and two or three months and didn’t alert anymore after that one time. So I know they work and I also tested them out with a couple drops of water Across the censor probes anyway. I like the fact that the sensors have electrodes on both sides so they will be able to pick up anything dripping or anything standing. I also like the fact that these use a standard AA or AAA battery so that should be easy to replace after they get low, but I’m also monitoring the battery level with home assistant as well.
