Swing hitch extension works great
We ordered this product so that we could swing our bike rack (which fits into our hitch) off to the side when we need to open the back doors of our van. The swing action is very smooth and the parts are tightly fit together so there is little movement as we drive down our dirt road. Folks might want to know that it swings to the right as you are facing the vehicle. I personally wish that it would swing the other way because our van side door is on the right. The bike rack does not block the side door, but you do have to walk around it to get to the back. Not much of a problem though.

Highly Recommend for Vehicles with Liftgates
I waited too long to buy this. It is heavy-duty and makes hauling bicycles so much more convenient. I don’t have to remove them and the rack now when I need to get into the back of the car. It swings effortlessly out of the way. The hitch lock is a threaded bolt, which can be inconvenient when installing or removing, but it allows the arm to be securely and firmly attached so that it is quiet and stable.

Great item
Worked absolutely perfect for me, mine is mounted on the back of a transit van and the doors swing open, and the bikes have to clear so with the bikes, arranged one way they can’t open all the way, but a bungee fixed that problem easily.

Doesnt hold the weight it claims
The YAKIMA BackSwing hitch is an absolute disaster waiting to happen. Despite boasting a weight capacity of 250 pounds, this hitch attachment couldn't handle even half that weight without collapsing under the strain. I made the mistake of trusting its claims and loaded close to 200 pounds onto it, only to watch in horror as the hinge started to bend under the pressure. Attempting to swing the hitch out to access the gear proved to be a costly mistake. The weight combined with the flimsy construction caused the hinge to bend and warp, rendering it virtually unusable. Now, instead of enjoying the convenience of easy access to my gear, I'm stuck lifting and maneuvering the bent hitch every time I need to lock it back into place. It's infuriating to invest in a product that not only fails to deliver on its promises but also poses a serious safety hazard. I expected more from Yakima considering they are one of the best in the business.

Great Solution for our Jeep Wrangler
Having bikes on the back of the jeep means no easy way to open back gate. This swing out arm solves the problem. We have a Hollywood rack for our e-bikes and it’s a heavy setup. This swing out arm is super solid. My only gripes are that the latch release is a bear to open and a bit fiddly to latch - really takes two hands to do. Also, might be specific to us but we can’t open back door without unlatching swing out arm because spare tire hits it. Could be our tire size or hitch height.

Perfect solution!
We got this to haul 2 e bikes to Alaska on a slide in truck camper... so far, it is perfect! Very stable and easy to operate. Would definitely recommend!

Works As Intended
I bought this for a family trip. Our dog rides in the back of my wife's SUV, and had trouble getting out when we used a cargo platform that was in her way. This let us swing the whole platform to the side to let her out. It went onto the hitch solid, it is built very heavy which is good and had a bolt to tighten onto the outgoing hitch to prevent any wiggle. It locks positively closed and in the open position. I do recommend a hitch clamp for where it connects to the vehicle since there isn't a bolt on the side, just to lock everything down tight. It probably matters less if you are just loading on bikes, but I probably had 200 plus pounds on the platform, and it rode really well. Also, if you are going to use it with a platform I recommend finding one with a shortish hitch tube. The yakima adds maybe a foot to whatever you have mounted back there, which is a plus for bikes, but a long tube platform may be too far back for you.

I have a Hollywood (brand) rack for 2 electric bikes (ie bikes and rack are both somewhat heavy). There was not enough clearance with just that rack to open the back doors, and difficult to load the bikes without damaging the van. I had ordered a straight hitch extension but came across this swing-away rack (see etrailer.com for in-depth specs) in time to cancel the order for the extension. . Like another person noted, it puts the bikes quite a ways behind the van, but that's the price you have to pay for clearance. The 90 degree opening with automatic lock is perfect for the van, it lets me swing the rack open to load and unload both bikes. Very solid even with the heavy bikes and rack attached to it. I did have to make one mod. There's a threaded "nut" inside the hitch for the locking hitch pin. I had to reverse that because of the way the factory Sprinter hitch is set up. Easily done though.

Well, this is the 2nd time now of trying to write a review on this product, my first wouldnt submit, then disappeared when I went back to it to try again. So, we purchased this unit in May/25, did not use until Oct/25. When installed on our vehicle it had a lot of slop in it. Tried tightening the bolt, the one that is there to tighten the unit to the hitch, wouldn't tighten it up. Contacted the company we purchased it from but because it was past 30 days they kindly referred me to yakima warranty with a copy of my receipt. I called yakima and was asked to submit info pertaining to our complaint as well as the receipt, etc. So I did that, including the attached video below. I was told that the slop in the unit was normal and that we should put a shim or a crushed pop can to take the slop out of it. Now our understanding for the bolt to be there was to tighten the unit so there would be no slop, but apparently that is not the case, all is normal. Our advice to anyone considering purchasing one of these is: don't waste your money.

Au début avant de faire l'achat j croyais qu'il n'était pas assez long pour ouvrir mes deux portes de van avec vélo sur support. Mais, tout est OK !
