I luv my new garbage can. Honestly when I first got it I was very unimpressed. I then took all the stickers off and got to know it and it is really well made and very simple and intuitive, yes intuitive. The lid when it auto lowers is quiet and smooth and it can be locked when kids or animals are around as well as having the option of opening the lid by hand. I especially luv the back bar that sits up against the wall so the lid will never hit the wall because you aren’t playing guessing guess. Furthermore for as lightweight as it is, it is stable which really impresses me. The standard 13 gallon bag fits snuggly on without coming off the top lip in the bucket. The price is great the one this replaced had a bigger price tag. And lastly, I need you to sit down for this one. We had first looked at the auto-sensing trash bins (we are technology buffs), but since our bin sits next to our pantry door we figured a sensor would "auto-open" every time we opened the pantry door itself. Glad we decided on this instead, since it is a perfect balance of style, price, and function. About 2 other reviewer's comments: I read another reviewer's post about "13 gallon bags not fitting" but we've tried several brands and they all fit just fine. Currently we buy a huge roll of standard trash bags from target for $4 and have no issues. I will say that you do have to stretch the top 1/2" to fit the bag over the rim, but I believe that is by design because it holds there perfectly. The bags never tear at the rim, and the bags never sag into the can. Another reviewer also said the top of the lid flopped about every time they pressed the pedal down, and would never close correctly. I think this is because, when the can arrives it is already connected to the base via the lifting bar that extends up the back from the pedal. What the other reviewer failed to realize (most likely), is that the lid still has two clips on it that need to be snapped into place once you receive it. Once attached properly it functions perfectly. About the Can: - Price - $49.99 is well worth it. - Color Combos - We got the cappuccino color ... super nice for a trash bin. - Wide Pedal - good for ease of use. - Locking Lid - we don't have cats, but I read another review that said this was the only cat proof lock they found that worked. We have an infant so I am sure this will come in handy later when she is reaching height. - Slow Motion Lid - Great little feature .... when you open the lid and let off the pedal the lid very calmly and slowly closes quietly in slow motion. Most cans have lids that just slam shut (and burst some stinky air while at it), but this one is very pleasant. I hadn't thought of this feature until seeing it on this can, now I will make sure to check for it in the future. 2 Things: ** We had another couple over for dinner recently and they saw the can and it's "slow motion" lid. They were so impressed they went on amazon and bought the black one, haha. How may times have you ever been able to tell a story like that about a trash can? **** Lowe's sells the same can for the same price, but we are Amazon Prime members so we prefer to order online since shipping is free, and that also let's us skip the drive and sales tax =) 5 STARS

My Beautiful Trash Can was there awaiting me on my door step during a Winter Blizzard ;-) The Trash can was well packaged and sealed along with a box of Tall Glad Trash Bags to try it out. Although, they do provide a few free ones for advertising that may cost a little more to use with the trash can, until you can get some at the local store (Glad Tall 13 Gallon Bags) and I would get them their instead of on Amazon because while convient, the price you can get them in the store is about the same as on Amazon, but with twice as many in the box. There are lots of good buys too when you buy the bigger boxes, no real need to get the Simple Human Bags, but it was nice to try them. The Can is really rugged. Took a nice grapple of the edges to lock the lid into place. The lock on front works really well too and I really like the step to lift up the lid. It is the first time I have ever had one like this. I chose the Moca Colored can. It was a good choice, others did too, so it was approximately $5.00 more, but I think the color compliments the kitchen better. I LOVE the Trash Can, and the best part is that it included is a 5 year warranty or the Simple Human Companies PROMISE ! Which guarentees you another new can if ever you should need one. I look at it like I have invested in a product that if it does faulter, I get double my money back in trash can. So now the can really only cost $25 which is almost what one in the store would cost, a cheap ole piece of crap, I'm very pleased with my new trash can, sometimes you need to pay a little more for a decent product and after counting the cost, the bags you can buy in the store, make sure they are the Tall 13 Gallon Trash Bags from Glad, you will be Glad you did, no pun intended. The bigger the box, the greater the saving on bags, has a lock to keep animals like Tapers out, Amber's Cat reviewed left on the Black Can although she bought her's through the company so she could get a Christmas Card with her's for her cat after assisting the Thanksgiving Turkey out to the livingroom likely to watch some TV and have a few chicken wings ;-) The bones left on the floor did the cat in. I think Tapers must have been a male cat ??? Keeps kids out of the can. So softly closes for the midnight raid of the fridge when hungry. It is nice and sturdy, 5 year warranty, a real Promise I say. Rest Assure, no one will give you a warranty like that if they don't think their can is up to snuff. Can't make money giving can's away, can you ? So I say get the can by all means, make it mocha because I do believe it will show less dirt. Love my can, something Great besides a Blizzard today. So happy to have a new trash can, a Simplehuman trash can ! Even if I bought it myself ;-)

So, funny story. I bought this because my husky somehow BROKE my other trash can by stepping on the pedal too hard while the lid was locked. And he did that because he wanted to dig for trash. He also has a bad habit of knocking over trash cans to get into them. So my solution was to buy a trash can with sturdier lid locking mechanism, and to place 2 heavy bricks on the bottom of it. So far, so good! He hasn't knocked this one over. Anyway, onto the product. Pros: - Aesthetically, the design is nice. - Silent lid operation. Now this one surprised me. I didn't even know the trash can had this feature until I tried it out and the lid gently closed down. Amazing. No more funky smells getting aired out as the lid closes. Plus it just seems so.. elegant. - The slide lock is super strong. Like, almost too secure. See cons list for more details. - Good quality. I was afraid my bricks would eventually damage it, but I've had this trash can for awhile now and it's holding up just fine. Cons: - Price. Well, you can also see it as an investment in quality I guess. - Might have to experiment with different trash bags to get the right fit for the unique shape. - The slide lock is difficult to push and pull. It makes it super secure, but dang does it make a loud sound when I slide it shut! And to get it open I can't just use one hand (not even with the bricks weighing the trash can down). I have to hold the trash can with my other hand to slide the lock open or else I'll just drag the entire trash can. That's how secure it is. - While it seems like the trash can will fit nicely against walls, you actually have to leave some space for the lid. When the lid opens, it pushes the wall and the trash can outwards if you don't leave some space between the trash can and the wall. I hope the product team will deal with this eventually. Still, in comparison to other brands, which I've had my fair share of experience with, this one truly stands out. I've tried those with motion sensors, and while they feel futuristic, nothing beats the reliability of a simple step mechanism. Plus, those sensors can get finicky and don’t even get me started on battery replacements.

I never thought I'd get excited over a trash can, but I love this can. For the past several years, I have been using a very expensive electric / battery powered touchless stainless steel tall kitchen can. It worked great for the first few years, and then gradually over time, the lid had more trouble rising and stayed up for only a couple of seconds, so I decided I was going to go low tech this time and buy a can that had a foot pedal. If you are reading this review, you are doing exactly what I did. I wanted a decent can at a reasonable price that got good reviews from people not paid or incentivized by the manufacturer to review them. I paid full price for this can, which I bought from Amazon, and my opinion is totally unbiased. I wish I had bought this can earlier. It's light weight, but sturdy. The only negative I found was what others experienced: you have to really press down to get the lid to lock on to the can, but it's doable with little fuss as long as you understand that. It's the only assembly required. The can came in a really large box with a lot of packing material, which was wasteful. It also came with the lid propped on the top of the can -- just not attached. It seems like it would be easy for the manufacturer to just attach the lid at the factory if it is going to be shipped with the lid on top of it instead of having a lot of reviewers complain about problems they encountered attaching the lid. Easy fix and the only negative. The can comes with a supply of bags made to fit and you can order more from the manufacturer, but the great news is that any standard 13 gallon tall kitchen garbage bag will work just fine. For some reason, I thought there was a ring or rim to secure and cover the bags, but there is not. The fit is tight enough and secure enough that you just turn the top of the bag over the rim of the can and it easily holds in place, and you really can't see the bag because most of it is covered by the lip of the lid. To open the can, press the foot pedal. The lid will stay open several seconds and then slowly close by itself. If you want the lid to stay open, pull it open by hand instead of using the foot pedal, and then close it manually when you are ready. Easy. This can will not sit flush with the wall because there is a small bumper in the back that allows for the space needed for the lid to open fully, so be aware of that when making location decisions based on size. You'll need to allow a couple of inches of clearance from the wall. I have a large puppy who is interested in everything, including the trash. My favorite thing about this can is that you can lock the lid shut. Push the silver locking mechanism toward the back of the can to lock and pull it toward you to unlock. The lock will hold even if you tip the can over. Now, I don't have to worry about my dog getting into the trash anymore. The matte finish on the can means no fingerprints (or nose prints), so you won't be constantly wiping it down. I wish I had bought this can years ago.

Bought this because I was looking for a trash can that wasn't too big for my area, legit the lid shut well to deter summer time smells (it has a built in odor trapper!). I bought the dark brown. Great color. I got all that and so much more. The lid is a soft close lid, not cleaning every time you use it. And it has a locking lid for all you pet owners! No more knocked over garbage, late night garbage snacking. The 13 gallon trash bags for snuggly over this. My old trash left so much to be desired. This trash can is absolute gratitude each and every day I use it.

I never thought i’d say this but I’m very pleased and impressed with this trashcan purchase. I specifically needed a “dog proof” garbage bc our little 18lbs Bichon just can’t help himself when he is alone and tears at the can liner bag edges until he knocks it over. One too many messes and eventually we stopped having a garbage can in the actual house (it was moved to the garage) and have been using plastic grocery bags placed so graciously on the counter and taken to the outside bin at night. I had bought myself an automatic one for my bathroom- another trash can he is obsessed with bc my daughter uses pads and I think you get the picture. Dogs love all body fluids 🤦🏻‍♀️ He hasn’t really figured it out yet, but we also basically stopped leaving pads in there at all, and the automated part is kinda cool so that’s initially what I wanted to get for the kitchen. I was dreading the battery powered lid getting knocked over and tossed around. I was imagining the possible scenarios and eventually leaned away from that bc common sense says getting something more fragile isn’t a good idea knowing it will take abuse by an animal. After literal hours looking around.. I really liked the way this one sounded.. and I realized that a step pedal would probably suit my needs better.. plus it probably won’t break ever.. so in the end I decided this was probably a safer bet. It got here and I was pretty impressed. My old 13 gallon was dwarfed next to this. I didn’t even notice the hook in the back, which is perfect bc there is this hook on etsy that would fit perfect and basically screws the garbage to a wall so the dog can’t move it, but I decided to wait on that unless it’s needed. update: so we’ve had this maybe two weeks and a few days ago my mom was cooking and using the garbage.. with Bruno watching 🤣.. so after seeing what is actually was.. that night he finally made his move. He knocked it over and I hadn’t yet decided to keep it locked bc I wasn’t sure if I needed to. Because he is so intelligent sometimes, I have this tendency of giving him too much credit and it’s easy to forget he’s still just a dog. So I picked up the mess and told everyone it’s gotta stay locked all the time period no excuses..or you’re cleaning it up. Want to guess what woke me up this morning dramatically crying in front of the garbage can they knocked over but couldn’t get into? He knocked it over a few more times today, so by now he should get the hint that it’s no longer accessible to him, but we are still going to keep it locked bc he’s more than likely going to still try sometimes. I can’t say enough good things about this trashcan! and the best part is it does what it says !! update again: Lmao so again, this morning I woke up to an almost rhythmic banging noise. I was so confused when I first woke up that I didn’t actually get up,. I just listened to the sounds. then I realized it was my dog and the garbage again! I went downstairs and he has it wedged between couches (he dragged it everywhere😭) and I can only guess what the banging was. Him jumping? His hind legs? No idea but it was HILARIOUS 🤣 He had tore at the bag and there were easily over 100 little pieces of bag everywhere but the can was still closed. He could not get it open !! I wish I took a video or even a pic, but I was half asleep. Everyone reading this probably has a dog, so I don’t have to tell you how smart your dog is. Or maybe is not.. but you know how smart dogs can be. He is not physically capable of producing motions or movements that would cause this to open in any way. If dogs had opposable thumbs, it would 100% be open. I am just so over the moon happy but he cannot get to it and the trash is actually safe, and nothing he does will get this change that. Fantastic product like I am in awe of how such a simple design works so efficiently.

Item came without a lid. After waiting for a week, it is pretty disappointing.

nous avions ce model de poubelle, qu'elle joie de la retrouvée sue amazon, avec couleur différente des tendances (ce qui est bien pénible quand vous ne suivez la mode). légère, en plastique, hyper pratique avec le loqué de sécurité (notamment qui empêche les chiens d'ouvrir) qui fonctionne bien, ouverture par pédale ou à la main ouverte 90°. attention pas de seau à l'intérieur (pour notre part pas dérangeant) les sacs vendu avec tiennent bien (un peu cher) , avons utilisé des sacs plastique de plastique 60 litres ou plus pour que ça tienne sur les cotés merci du détail et messages pour la livraison.

Looks good, but the design of the lid is such that sells get out. Also the lid and the inside bottom of the container have too many ridges and nooks so cleaning will not be quick. So I feel that simplehuman mission statement is just marketing not an actual design approach.
