Can you see a group at 1000 yards?

On paper? I doubt you'd see holes on paper with any 60 power spotting scope. You might be able to see the splatter on steel at 1000 yards though given there isn't very much mirage.

What is the actual warranty? As on Vortex page - lifetime warranty?

I haven't had to deal with Vortex directly with this issue but it is my understanding their products do have a lifetime warranty. You probably saw the following on their web page "The VIP Warranty does not cover loss, theft, deliberate damage or cosmetic damage that does not hinder the performance of the product". The warranty is one thing that attracts me to their products. I did purchase some binoculars from a local store several years ago. I tested them before purchasing but the clerk and I did not notice they had a defect. I noticed the defect about a week later. I contacted my store and they said to bring it in and they gave me a new pair and said they would take care of returning the item to Vortex.
