I have gone through 3 different MPPT controllers and this is the first to actually do everything it stated. Installation couldn't have been easier. I like the mounting brackets, they make mounting way easy. The controls although not all that obvious are easy to get used to. A straight right pointing arrow does not scream "Enter". Setting up the battery type and the load mode was super simple. So far so good. If things change I will edit. (NOTE: The Tech Support and Weather proof, I cannot comment on as I have not used the support or had "Weather" issue that would effect the controller) I had an opportunity to reach out the Tech support/customer service. I was attempting to register my warranty, However when I hit submit I was informed that the SKU/Product number was not found. I went thru the list and sure enough it was not there. According to support, I did not need to register my warranty since I bought it from Amazon and that I should just keep the Amazon information.

I purchased the 30A model to use with eight, 60-watt 24V monocrystalline panels for my RV. To make up for the daily drain from the 600 AH lead battery bank. I did carefully read customer reviews and the products specifications and I was not disappointed with my purchase or the performance of this charge controller. I cannot split hairs over this controller when there are voltage drops and voltage variations in every part of my DC system. The controller measures solar input and considering a 10-percent conversion loss (heat) or less, the DC charging current falls inline with the solar input current. All I care about is maximizing DC charging current and the USER settings allow that. I find the BT module and app work well for me adhering to the distance limitation of the BT module that is about the same distance as the lead attached to it. Once BT communications are lost due to distance, they must be reestablished.

Sorry almost ever Renogy product I’ve purchased has show cheap workmanship. No instructions or at least ones that make any sense. This controller had horribly cheap lugs and was a nightmare trying to get any wires locked in. It came on then went off and never came on again. I used fused connections and didn’t ground it out either. Returned it for an Epever 30amp and install was amazing in contrast. Completely different equipment quality. I spent 10 dollars more for the new controller and it was excellent in comparison. I hate to dog on Renogy but when you’re too lazy to print out proper instructions and use the cheapest materials possible it’s only fare I want my fellow shoppers. I bought Rich Solar panels. Another cheap brand so it’s not me being a price snob. I usually shop in the middle as it’s been my best experience but I also spend hours reading reviews and not just here. This purchase went against my gut and it turned out to me the wrong one. Maybe Renogy will step up their game and I’ll try them again. I do have their 20a DCDc charger but only because there was a 300 dollar jump to the next product. Again their instructions were illogical but it does work as advertised so we’ll see.

I used this for years and it consistently performed well. I have updated from a 12V system to 24V across the board (panels, batteries, etc) and wanted to get the latest in all the components so I bought a newer Renogy charge controller that also works for 24V but the new one doesn't seem to work as well as this one. The new one will fluctuate in charging a lot more than this one. I was going to keep this as a backup, but at this point, I'm going to use the new one as a backup and put this one back in play.

I’ve used solar panels, controllers and batteries all Renogy products and for 15 years, no issues. I just installed the Rover 30a mppt charge controller in my truck camper and it was a chore! The mounting bracket is an issue. I mounted it on a vertical surface where my old unit was. The holes for the screws are under the unit itself with no clear shot at tightening the pre-started screws after hanging. I didn’t like the(afterthought) small extension brackets that came with it. I did figure out a way though, using 1/4 inch hex head screws that fit through the round part of the mounting holes and into the slot portion. I was able to use a small 1/4” wrench after hanging the unit to tighten screws! Make that mounting bracket 1/2” wider on both sides and you’ll get my 5 stars.

The instructions for attaching the cables to the “Renogy Rover MPPT Solar Charge Controller” aren’t described verbally or aren’t clear in the box. “FIRST lower each terminal hatch by screwing the terminals counterclockwise” see the “User Guide (PDF)” which is below the “Product guides and documents” at the "Renogy 100 Watts 12 Volts Monocrystalline Solar Starter Kit". The “User Guide (PDF)” doesn’t come with the “Renogy Rover MPPT Solar Charge Controller”. I think the “Renogy Rover MPPT Solar Charge Controller” is better than the “Renogy wanderer”. Look at the “User Manual (PDF)” for the “Renogy Rover MPPT Solar Charge Controller” to compare it with the “Renogy wanderer”. The “Renogy Rover MPPT Solar Charge Controller” probably isn’t designed to charge a "Pinty Portable Uninterrupted Power Supply 500W". The “Renogy Rover MPPT Solar Charge Controller” works alright with a “CHINS 12V 100Ah LiFePO4 Battery” when the battery type is set to USE and when the charging voltages are set to 14.6. Four 100 Watt Solar panels should be used with a “CHINS 12V 100Ah LiFePO4 Battery” is what I was told. I had to temporarily connect a 12 V A23 battery to the battery side of the Renogy wanderer and Rover before they would start charging the Pinty (the Pinty has 0 V at its solar charging port). I added a zener diode (in series) to the A23 battery to prevent reverse current (when the solar panel was connected to the wanderer). The "Renogy 100 Watts 12 Volts Monocrystalline Solar panel” produced about 73 watts according to the “Renogy Rover MPPT Solar Charge Controller”. The solar uv index was about 6.2 when the 73 watts was measured. Attached is a screenshot of “DC Home” APP paired with a “BT-1” and a “Renogy Rover 30 Amp MPPT Solar Charge Controller”. Maybe a “Renogy Rover 20 Amp MPPT Solar Charge Controller” would be enough for four Renogy 100 Watt Solar panels.

Switching from my old charge controller to this MPPT controller allowed me to connect my solar panels together in series. Making better use of every moment of sunlight I get in my challenging surrounded by trees location. Batteries start charging earlier in the day and over-voltage when in full sun is converted to usable amps rather then being lost. Batteries charge faster when taking in this extra power. Worth every penny this controller upgrade cost me.

Renogy have more powerful units. You have to make sure which model you need so check their SPECS before purchasing. This one is perfect for my needs.
