Holy Fuchsia, Batman!
This is my first time ever dying my own hair. My "before" picture was taken about a year ago when I had my hair professionally highlighted for the first time, and most accurately depicts my hair color(s) as the sun has helped me maintain my lighter streaks. When looking for a good hair dye, I knew I wanted something only semi-permanent (in case I botched it and needed to scrub it out) and, preferably, a dark burgundy or maroon color, as I LOVE the effect of dark semi-natural looking hair that looks red or purple in the light. I knew getting an especially dark color would be difficult as a natural blonde, but the pictures from my fellow black/brown-haired reviewers inspired me to purchase this color (plus hey, it's called chocolate cherry, sounds like a perfect description of dark brown + red to me!) Unlike most other dyes I looked into, this one did NOT come with the other tools you need, such as gloves, a coloring bowl or, most notably, an applicator brush. My "thrifty" (clueless) self decided just dunking an unused toothbrush in the jar would be good enough. I started following a YouTube balayage tutorial but got carried away and before I knew it, my entire head (and eyebrows, not to mention gloves, ears, and neck) were saturated. Even after covering my whole head, I still have more than half the jar left! The directions say to wait at least 30 minutes and up to 2 hours for the most vibrant and long-lasting results, so I waited one hour prior to taking a cold shower to rinse the dye out. As this was my first time, I didn't think too much while I flipped my hair all around with my head and fingers to get all the dye out. This may have been my biggest mistake, as the pink-ness splashed EVERYWHERE, and I am still finding new areas of my shower tiles to bleach and scrub down several days later. However, the dye truly made my hair feel SO GOOD, like better than after using a high-end conditioner, so getting to run my fingers all through that softness was worth it! As you can see from my photos (face contorted for some false sense of privacy), the results were SO VIVID! I was expecting a color result similar to the "medium blonde" depicted in the product photos, as that is what the majority of my hair color is. Instead it is a brilliant fuchsia color... that exact shade where you call it hot pink but any man will argue it's somehow purple. I am blown away by how well it blended with the varying shades of my highlights and natural hair color, however, creating a deeper burgundy near the roots and a highlighter pink in streaks. Despite the crazy color (my friends have now dubbed me "Skittles"), this variation left it feeling a little more natural-- not just like some bad LazyTown cosplay. I also took an old, mostly empty brown mascara and added perhaps half a teaspoon of the dye and have been applying that to my eyebrows to complete the look... that may be a terrible idea but it works for me so I thought I'd share. Last night I went for a run; I sweat a LOT and had seen reviews of some dyes warning that sweaty workouts may double as a tie-dying sesh for your clothes, but not at all for me with this dye! Afterwards in the shower I shampooed very thoroughly, mostly testing to see just how much might come out in one intensive shower, and noticed moderate fading near the roots but no change at all in vibrancy throughout the rest of my hair. I have since ordered shades of red, blue, and purple from Manic Panic to experiment with adding in a little different color to tone down the level of pink I was not expecting. TL;DR -- Pros: Easy to use despite not coming with tools, made my hair smell and feel great. A little goes a long way and I only needed half a jar. Color is vibrant, resilient, and truly unique. Cons: I'm still scrubbing the hot pink tint out of brushes, bathroom tiles, and my skin/fingernails. The color also leans more red/hot pink, while the photos show it as more purple; it's a brilliant color but lacking any more blue undertones.

Just What I Needed!
I was pleasantly surprised with the quality, smell, color match, and just how well this worked for my hair. It does stain whatever it touches, but I was able to clean out the shower and a few spots on my sink, so no harm done. I need to reapply the color after putting it on for the first time back in October, so it has lasted quite well for me!

Smells so good and worked well on previously pink hair
Disclaimer: we mixed this one with a different orange dye to create a different color! Actually bought this for myself to try but my son ended up using some too lol it smells amazing and was easy to apply! I feel like a little went a long way. I used most of it on my hair, which was dyed pink. I mixed with another color called tangerine dream from a different brand to create a “neon tangerine” vibe and threw it on my pink hair. The results were really good 🥹 the neon peach shines through on its own and my kids said it was “glowing” in the sun lol. It didn’t rinse fully clear but it didn’t stain anything and hasn’t bled at all. Not sure about longevity yet but I’m always switching colors anyway so I appreciate this one for being so vibrant and taking so well to my natural red hair/pre-dyed hair! Including a pic of my hair just before I did the neon peach/tangerine. It was electric paradise pink mixed with a little leftover pink splat 😅

Smells Great
I am growing the henna out of my gray hair so I can change to doing some color instead. Henna can’t handle any chemical color over it so I’m using the Butterscotch color to fill in for a bit. It matches the henna red really well. My hair is shaved up on side, and shaved about 3” around the back and underside on the other side. It’s also naturally curly so has a lot of texture. The Unicorn Butterscotch color only lasts about a week and it doesn’t coat my gray very well. It’s not fully saturated, but it is enough that the gray underneath isn’t so prominent. I wet my hair every day and use conditioner but only shampoo one a week or so. It does smell really nice and leaves my hair feeling very soft.

Gorgeous, Vibrant Color That Lasts and Keeps Hair Soft
I have been using Lime Crime Unicorn Hair for over 3 years now and it has never disappointed me. The Chocolate Cherry shade is such a beautiful color that looks vibrant and rich right after coloring. The color payoff is excellent and it always leaves my hair looking bold and shiny. I’ve also tried Genie, Sea Witch, and Valentine, and every shade has turned out stunning. One of my favorite things about this dye is the scent. The sugary citrus vanilla fragrance makes the application process so much more enjoyable. It doesn’t smell harsh like other dyes, which matches perfectly with how gentle it is on my hair. After rinsing, my hair always feels soft and conditioned rather than dry or damaged, and I’ve never experienced breakage from using it. The dye is very easy to apply at home, whether with a brush or just gloved hands, and it washes out of my shower without leaving any stains. The color is long-lasting too. I usually go about 2 months before I need to redye, and even then it fades gradually into a softer version of the shade instead of looking patchy. Overall, this is hands-down the best semi-permanent dye I’ve ever used. The colors are vibrant, the scent is amazing, it’s easy to use, and it always leaves my hair in great condition. Absolutely worth the money for the quality and results. If I could rate it higher than 5 stars, I would.

does not dry out hair! color gets everywhere though.
got the mystic color for my daughter, who is a dirty blonde, and it's pretty blue. rinsed it clean but the challenge is that the color rubs off onto her neck, shirts, and practically everything even after a few washings. its temporary and does not cost a lot of money but may look to other brands for next time.

A Promise Kept
LimeCrime Unicorn Hair dye promises “ALWAYS VIBRANT, NEVER DULL. This semi-permanent hair dye washes out gracefully from poppin’ to pastel, and always stays looking fierce. With no toner or developer needed, your hair will stay healthy and bright!” and it is quite true, if applied and taken care of properly. I have used a bunch of different hair dyes and have dyed my hair at least 4 different colors and throughout some trial and error I have found that LimeCrime works the best. When I first dyed my hair I went to a salon, I got it bleached and dyed it blue, two days later the dye washed out and my hair looked dingy, considering I spent over $100 on that I was very unhappy. Since then I decided that I would color my own my hair, I bought manic panic and I had to redeye my hair every 3rd wash. I was unhappy with that as well and decided it was time to search for a new dye for my hair. While searching and searching I came across LimeCrime Unicorn Hair, it sounded good and the bottles looked decently sized, so I decided to give it a try. The first color I bought was pony purple, it was supposed to be a bright violet color, it looked pretty on the model’s hair, so I ordered it and gave it a go. When it came I was really impressed, one bottle of LimeCrime Unicorn Hair is like two bottles of manic panic. When I opened the bottle I was impressed by how good it smelled, it had a really sweet aroma to it and I thought “oh the dye just smells good it’s probably to cover the smell of chemicals”, no I was wrong, the dye has almost no actual chemicals in it, there is nothing in the dye that could possibly harm your hair. So, the first time I applied the pony color to my hair I didn’t apply it correctly, what you have to do is rub it into your hair, the dye not only colors your hair but it also works as a kind of deep conditioner. When applying put a little on the tip of your dying brush, depending on how long your hair is and how thick it is this will vary, and apply it to your hair, after applying it with the brush make sure you rub it into to every strand you just applied it to. This will help the color take better to your hair and it will also make the dye work as a kind of deep conditioner. After using this dye 3-5 times, I can say that the color really does come out vibrant and it stays in for a long time, just wash your hair with luke warm or cold water, not hot, it makes the dye was out much faster. All in all LimeCrime really does come through on their promise for vibrant hair that lasts long and fades well, some reviews have been negative, but I disagree, much like Brianna Martinez says, “I was nervous after I ordered after reading some of the other reviews, but I love this product.” This product is quality and I highly recommend buying it if you want bright, vibrant, and soft hair.
