A New York Times Bestseller From the New York Times bestselling author of Better Than the Movies , this โentertainingโ ( Publishers Weekly ) rom-com in the vein of Sheโs All That and 10 Things I Hate About You follows a teen girl who unwittingly finds herself at the center of a bet while working at a waterpark. Bailey and Charlie make a bet on whether or not the cozy pair will actually get together. Charlie insists that members of the opposite sex canโt just be friends, and Bailey is determined to prove him wrong. Review: Betting on You by Lynn Painter - "Betting on You" by Lynn Painter is a charming and witty contemporary romance novel that is sure to captivate readers who enjoy heartfelt stories with plenty of humor, emotional depth, and a touch of competition. This book is a perfect blend of lighthearted romance and character growth, with a refreshing plot that keeps the reader engaged from start to finish. Plot & Storyline The story follows the two protagonists, who are caught up in a lighthearted bet that eventually evolves into something more meaningful. The bet is the catalyst that brings the characters together, and as they interact and spend time getting to know each other, their chemistry begins to blossom. The book is filled with the right amount of tension, humor, and tender moments that gradually turn their rivalry into a blossoming romance. The plot offers a delightful mix of comedic moments and emotional growth. The bet serves as the backdrop for exploring the charactersโ deeper struggles, and as they evolve over the course of the novel, the reader is drawn into their personal journeys and transformation. Characters & Development Lynn Painter does an excellent job of creating relatable and endearing characters. The heroine is witty, independent, and strong, while the hero is charming and, at times, frustrating in his competitive nature. Their back-and-forth banter, along with the way they learn to understand each other, makes their relationship dynamic fun to watch. Both characters experience significant personal growth, and their emotional arcs are just as compelling as their romantic one. The slow-burn romance is satisfying to watch unfold, and the characters' struggles and vulnerabilities feel genuine, making the ending feel earned and heartwarming. Writing Style & Tone Painter's writing style is playful, engaging, and full of heart. Her prose is full of wit, and the tone of the book strikes a perfect balance between lightheartedness and emotional depth. The dialogue is snappy and fun, with lots of humor, but the author also takes time to explore the charactersโ deeper emotional layers. This combination of humor and vulnerability makes for a well-rounded, enjoyable read. Themes "Betting on You" explores themes of personal growth, taking risks, and overcoming insecurities. The bet is more than just a competitionโit becomes a way for the characters to learn more about themselves, face their fears, and ultimately take a chance on love. The book also delves into themes of trust, vulnerability, and letting go of past fears in order to embrace new opportunities. Potential Considerations While the book is enjoyable and fast-paced, some readers may find certain plot points predictable, especially if they are familiar with the enemies-to-lovers or bet-based romance tropes. However, the charm of the characters and the engaging writing style more than make up for this. Review: Liked it a lot - I feel like it could be better but it was still really good.

Another winning Painter love story. The slow burn from enemies to friends made it hard to put this one down. The banter between Charlie and Bailey had me literally laughing out loud more than once. The best part was the way they were both there for each other. Charlie is my new book boyfriend.

Lovely YA Novel about friendship, first love, and the beauty in commitment
I had to take a moment after reading this to really gather my thoughts. Overall, the banter and compatibility between our leading lady and man was, no surprise, enjoyable and engaging. I love Painterโs ability to write two unseemingly personalities and make them gel. Itโs truly one of her strengths. My problems didnโt lay with our main characters or how they reacted to situations. The opposite, in fact, as I felt their emotions were completely justified with little justice for them in the end. Iโll start with our darling main girl, Bay. What an absolute sweetheart. Her relationship with her mother was supposed to come off as โcloseโ but ultimately revealed itself to be surfaced. Bay is 17. She is not a grown woman, she is still a child. The way Emily reacted to Bayโs emotions and her insecurities with having a strange man around the house did not sit well with me. I am mother of both a daughter and a son, and I can say, Emilyโs behavior was so, so self centered and awful it was beyond cringe and so disheartening she would treat her daughter the way she did and have the audacity to make it seem like Bay was the problem. On the other hand, Bayโs dad was completely skimmed over and all I got was at one point he wasnโt a dead beat and then he turned into one? On the other hand, our goofy, complex stud of hero was completely jipped of all justice when it came to his family. This boy was angry and bitter and the complete ignorance of his parents and the momโs boyfriend was jarring. Therapy and tums were not what he needed. But a lending ear and someone to show they truly care about what heโs going through wouldโve been a good start. I just had such a problem with the parents in this novel it was hard to truly feel happy for Charlie and Bay. In the end, this novel unraveled to be a story about the relationship between parents and their children and in that regard it really missed the mark. I mean REALLY missed the mark. The whole story is centered around two children dealing with divorce and finding solace and companionship with each other, but at the end of the day, if all grown ups suck around them, itโs hard to remedy the fact that Bay and Charlie end up ok when they have so many unsolved problems with their parents. I do love Painterโs writing. What a gift to read a novel and feel like youโre watching a movie. But the modern day outlook on divorce and the idea children need to just grin and bear it because the parent needs to be happy just left me feeling empty. The child is still living under your roof, under your authority. They take priority ALWAYS. Children are not responsible for parentโs happiness.

Hilarious and hard to put down - but also kinda deep for a YA novel.
This book caught my attention when I was browsing the publisher's website. It sounded like a YA version of "How to Lose a Guy in 10 days," which I found intriguing. So I bought it. By the second chapter I was pretty hooked because the internal dialogue and verbal exchanges between the characters was pretty realistic and often hysterical, in my opinion. I loved how the guy always referred to the girl as "glasses." The emotion that tugged at me and kept me reading were their exchanges and vulnerability around how they felt about living with one of their divorced parents and how that impacted their life and their view of the world. So many homes consist of blended families now it's pretty much normal, but that doesn't mean it does not impact the offspring of the original parents. This novel showed that very well. The internal conflict was so well done. How they ended up being insecure about relationships also made sense. It's rare that I plow through a book and almost devour it, but in this case, I couldn't help myself. And the best part was the book made me think about things that I normally don't ponder. That's the sign of a good book, IMHO. On the negative side, there was a lot of swearing in their internal dialogue - especially his. But they didn't talk that way around parents and in situations where it wouldn't be appropriate, so in that sense it felt pretty realistic. I grew up in NY and f bombs were just the way teens talked even back in the 80s. That being said, I loved that the characters developed a deep emotional connection and it wasn't based solely on attraction. Also, there was no sexual content that would make it feel like a teen porno book. That was well done and shows that books can be compelling without all the smut. All that to say, bottom line...I really enjoyed this book.

Emotional Rom Com
Having loved โBetter Than The Moviesโ and โNothing Like The Movies,โ I eagerly bought this book, though I admit my expectations might have been unrealistically high. After finishing it, I took a short break, but ultimately gave it four stars because I enjoyed it. Hereโs my only criticism, but please donโt gasp. Even for someone not easily offended, the audiobook contained an excessive amount of cursing that sometimes felt inconsistent with their personalities, which was unfortunate. While some editing might have improved it, I also want the book to accurately reflect the authorโs vision. This is just my honest opinion based on my personal experience. What I did love, however, was... The plot was straightforward and engaging. The supporting characters were well-developed and integral to the plot, and I connected with the bookโs exploration of divorce, a theme I also experienced growing up. I absolutely LOVE how the author seamlessly weaves in references to my favorite rom-com movies, making the book feel familiar. Although I enjoyed this book, I hesitated to give it a five-star rating because, unlike her other works, I doubt Iโll reread it. Iโm not saying I didnโt enjoy it or that I regret buying it. Perhaps reading this one before her other books would have prevented the conflict of comparing it to my all-time favorites of hers. I would still recommend this book to my friends because Lynn Painter is a gifted author with a wonderful voice and a great sense of humor. Iโm getting ready to dive into The Do-Over!

wasnโt expecting to love this as much as i did (thank you charlie sampson). honestly i wasnโt totally feeling it in the first 50 pages but that totally changed and i found myself completely invested. so glad i stuck with it bc while the mmc sorta annoyed me at first (just in the first airport scene(s)) boy did that change LOL. he turned out so sweet, funny, and charming and i found myself absolutely loving his character. as for the story itself i found it really cute and loved the chemistry between the mcs. though there were a lot of similarities, i actually liked this book more than bttm!!

So cute, so funny and so.. realistic.
That book just pure happiness. So cute, so funny and so.. realistic. Life doesn't always has "happily ever after" and magically acceptance of new reality, and books that usually put that in their end make it unrealistically sweet. But this book โ this book feels more real life than anything, and I love it
