My rescue pit/mix would jump at the fence or dig at the ground whenever the neighbor dogs were out. We got a ~$50 training collar at a local pet store, but it was laughably inadequate; she might as well not have the collar on for all the good it did. After reading reviews and articles that suggested this Dogtra collar, I decided to give it a try. The price is pretty steep, but WELL worth it! The first thing I did was try the shock setting on myself at various levels to personally feel what she would feel. I was touching the prongs with my bare fingers, so the thickness and length of a dogs hair can have an effect on efficacy. * At 20 or below, I can barely feel it. More of a tickle. * At 30 it starts to get noticeable, but doesn't hurt at all. * At 60 it gets your attention. * At 80 it's definitely uncomfortable. * At 100 and up, it's jarring and starts to really hurt. So I put the collar on my dog and as soon as she started running for the fence, I "buzzed" the collar a couple times as a warning, and then use the shock setting. It only took a day or two of this procedure for her to get the hint that the buzz was a warning and will be followed by a shock if she doesn't stop, and she now immediately changes course as soon as she feels the warning buzz, and we hardly have to use the shock setting any more. As a bonus, the collar also helps train her not to bark at everything that moves or makes a noise. The buzz warning is all that's needed. To find the ideal shock setting, I started low at around 40 and did a little trial and error slowly increasing the power level until she started responding. Eventually, we found a shock setting of around 75-80 is the best combination of effectiveness while not causing undue pain. My dog is ~60lb with short hair, so you have to adjust accordingly for size and fur amount. Usage is pretty intuitive. You push the button on the remote and the collar to turn them on (green LED will flash on both). I push the buzz button to make sure everything works, then put the collar on the dog. I was a little surprised at how long the shock prongs are. It took a little trial and error to find the proper collar adjustment hole that was tight enough to ensure adequate prong contact while not causing the prongs to dig in. I then marked the collar to make future use faster and consistent. Collar battery life around 1-2 days and the remote life is about 2-3 days, which is about what I expected. We usually don't turn the collar and remote off after each use, so they are usually sitting on the counter powered on but idle. I'm sure battery life would be better if we shut both off after each use. Charging is pretty simple; open the rubber covers on the charging ports and attach the charge adapter. The Y cable is nice to charge both at once if needed. The collar seems to work fine even when damp and in light rain. We haven't really testing in heavy rain though since she doesn't want to go outside when it's too wet out.

Let’s get this out of the way. It’s way too expensive. It does work. I’ve got a 5 going on 6 month old German Shepherd who I work with three times a day at the park and of course at home. He’s usually stuck to me like glue but he’s also a very alpha pup who can get a bit too alpha. The collar is extremely well made and it holds a charge for quite a while. I haven’t been able to check the distance yet because as I said he doesn’t get to far from me. But as with all dogs there can be times when you need to find their off switch for their safety and maybe someone else’s. For that the stim comes in handy. I tested it on my finger at 22 and felt a tingle only. I set it at 30 for my pup . It’s just enough to make him stop in his tracks and return to me. It could be a squirrel a kid on a bike a stranger walking in the park at dusk …. You never know. I do know I don’t want him running into traffic or scaring the crap out of someone or getting in a dogfight. This covers all of that. I’m fortunate because he’s very smart and took to the tone and vibration after one hour of working with him. The stim I only used when he “ couldn’t hear me “ and he got the message. I never would hurt my pup so the 30 stim setting is a last resort. As with all dogs the training you put into your pup/dog is what makes your dog a good citizen. This collar won’t help you or your dog if you are not committed to the work. You get out what you put in. I would buy this again and again

Being the owner/parent of an EXTREMELY intelligent and stubborn adolescent 100+lbs Cane Corso pup (1 year old), I was unfortunately on the verge of rehoming. He was super anxious, high energy no matter how much I walked, ran, jogged.. Ever hear “A tired dog is a happy dog?” Well this dog NEVER GOT TIRED! It was genetic mental crap fest. He had separation anxiety, cried and chewed, and chewed and cried. I work from home and he would literally chew and cry 2 feet from me! I read books, watched vids, and purchased 6; you heard that right, SIX different e-collars. My dog easily figured out ways to deal with the static correction and essentially failed to correlate the correction to bad behavior. Two dog trainers later I was encouraged to purchase the Dogtra collar. With hopes dwindling along with my patience and funds (dog trainers aren’t cheap ppl), I took a leap of faith. Well I’ve been flying ever since and haven’t looked back. Now for you dog parents out there that shun e-collars as cruel torture devices… why are you reading this? I’m not here to sell you butterflies and rainbows… if you crank this bad boy up to the max (which I could never imagine being appropriate) I am pretty sure you will have a taser on your hands. That’s not the point. Finding a level where your dog is uncomfortable with the stimulation enough to decide “I think I should not do this” is the point. That sweet spot for me is 30-35 depending on the distraction level (this thing goes to 127!). Now with other sport dog collars my boy never flinched, never responded, just plain old kept the show going. But Dogtra came and changed the game. Now I have a dog that gets rewarded constantly, spends more time doing what he loves, is a great car, movie night, and small child companion, and isn’t looking for mischief because I have established boundaries and he knows that “No” means “No”… that is the point after all. FYI - THIS DEVICE HAS NO WARNING BEEP! Use your words people! As doggie parents you can’t out run a dog determined to run after a cat, dog, squirrel, deer, etc. but this device gives you Thor like powers to reach across that yard and refocus their behavior back on you when YOU CALL THEM, not the beep…THAT IS THE POINT… Now on to EASE OF USE: charges fully in under 2 hours. It holds a charge for at least a couple days or more. Directions are straight forward, comes with a handy lanyard so you can walk/jog the park without your pockets sagging. As a woman this is great. Excellent range and has a nice led on both the collar and remote that indicates a low battery- excellent. Comes with a dual plug to charge both devices at the same time (Dogtra you truly thought this through *smile)… the whole package comes in a super nice almost gun like case for long term storage for when your doggo graduates to listening to just YOUR WORDS and you can put it away… I’ve dropped the remote plenty of times, my dog scratches, shakes, and roles all over the collar and it has held fast just fine - super durable! The collar fits him comfortably and doesn’t dig in. You can feel the quality of this kit the moment you open it. It’s everything they say it is when you use it properly. No issues here! If you are like me and have a stubborn adolescent dog that shed it’s adorable angelic puppy qualities and has tested your heart strings, get a reputable trainer to train YOUR behavior and this collar to establish the boundaries for your pup! All dogs are good dogs, can’t say the same for ppl tho! Lol!

THIS COLLAR HAS CHANGED MY RELATIONSHIP WITH MY DOG FOR THE BETTER! I have a stubborn 1 year old in tact male Great Dane who’s had a tough time with his recall in high distraction settings. Before purchasing this collar, I went down a rabbit hole trying to find the best collar for a giant breed dog. This one consistently came out on top. After having the collar for about a month I have to agree that it is 100% worth the money. This collar (Dogtra 1900x) has been amazing for nipping the times he wants to ignore me right in the butt. Against my better judgement, I tried some of the cheaper E-collars you can buy off of Amazon, and they didn’t phase my dog at all. And I mean AT ALL!! This collar has 127 levels and my Dane consistently works at somewhere between a 20-25. There was one instance where he wasn’t recalling, and I slowly worked the collar up to about a 50. Let’s just say he hasn’t ignored me since. I can’t imagine what the stim would be like at a higher level than that. Learn from my mistakes and just buy the nice collar from the start. I know it sucks that it’s expensive, but trust me it’s been worth it. This collar has made communication with my dog clear, and has allowed my dog more freedom than ever. Pros: -The receiver on the collar is large which is great for large/giant breed dogs. -The “continuous” setting on the remote has been amazing for clear communication with my dog and his recall. -I love that there is a “boost” function so you can consistently work at a lower level “stim” but the option is there if you need it. -You can make fine adjustments with the levels and really dial in your dogs working settings. -The battery life on this thing is amazing! I maybe use the collar twice a day 30-45 minutes at a time, and after about two weeks was when I could tell it needed to be charged. -I haven’t needed to change out the prongs on the receiver, but I like that Dogtra has a few different prong options if your dog is allergic to the metal or has a longer coat. -The range on the collar is amazing, and is true to what they say the range is. Cons: -I honestly don’t have anything bad to say about this collar. I’ve seen some people complain that the “beep” isn’t all that loud, but forget the beep is meant for their dog and not for them. The beep isn’t necessarily meant to be a function that should be used to try locating your dog. If you’re struggling with your stubborn dogs recall, or honestly anything else that can trained with an E-collar do yourself a favor and splurge on this collar!

Good collar seems to work for a cane corso neck size and buzz strength

We have a 2 year old Welsh Springer Spaniel who was raised in a suburban neighborhood on mostly leash led neighborhood walks. We've since moved to a very rural location and want to allow her off leash (there are no leash laws here), but we worry about her sense with cars and other dangers. If she gets a scent of a rabbit or squirrel, no amount of calling will get her to recall. We've done recall drills forever but as a flushing spaniel when she gets on a scent, she does NOT recall immediately. Eventually she'll recall but if her head is down following a scent trail, she could run right into a car! I purchased this based on reviews and with the hope that it could allow us and Remy the freedom to enjoy off leash walks but safely. Our experience has been amazing! A quick vibration when she is on scent and not returning to a whistle or call and she immediately turns back to us. It's almost like a tap on the shoulder - hello little dog - focus on your owner. Only a few times have we had to push the vibration button more than once. I did use the zap function one time but she yelped. I had the unit turned down to less than 30 but I will only use that in emergency situations. I don't want to scare or injure her. Wish I had known about this in the beginning of our training. It has been such a great training tool and gives us peace of mind to let her go off leash but safely. As for functionality of the unit itself, it is easy to charge, easy to learn how to function/button usage, and has a belt clip or strap. It comes in a hard plastic storage case.

Got it for training a Weimaraner. It is very effective. The tone seems to be a correct frequency that is loud and gets his attention. The range is more than enough for hiking swimming and any other off leash activities. Still works great even after a season of swimming in fresh and salt water. The battery life is long and the light does come in very handy for night walks. The shock is extremely strong on max level so pay attention to what level it’s at because the dial can be spun in your pocket. Definitely a good value for the price and quality. Compared to a cheaper model it’s worth pricing up. It gives us peace of mind to have him off leash.

This review is for my 2nd 1900X bought here on Amazon. I returned the first one for a replacement because it double-tapped on the "nick" setting. On "nick," when you push the stim button you should feel only a single, quick stim; but BOTH 1900X collars gave TWO quick stims at least once every 20 nicks, and the 2nd collar randomly BOOSTED the correction at least 10 levels higher than it was set for! Ouch. (I was nowhere near the Boost button, but this explained why my pup was occasionally jumping on single-digit corrections.) I love the thunky stim the collar provides, and its vibration feature is startlingly strong, so I regret giving only one star, but here is why I made the decision to do so: In order to protect other dogs from having the same confusing experience as my dog did, rather than simply returning the 2nd collar to Amazon, I sent it directly to Dogtra for warranty repair. When I called to tell them I'd received TWO collars with the same problem and asked if they'd gotten many complaints about the issue, they said "none whatsoever," and insisted they would've heard about it by now. After they received the collar I was told the high voltage circuit had to be replaced, so they did find something wrong. But I got it back last night and IT STILL DOUBLE-TAPS. So this unit is going back to Amazon, just like the 1st one, with writing on the box that says it is defective so that it will be returned to Dogtra and not resold as-is. Honestly, I expected more from Dogtra. I still use two collars of theirs that are over 10 years old. I was just interested in the new features on this one. If you do buy a 1900X, test the collar on yourself at a level you can feel, using the "nick" setting (not the "continuous" setting). Press the stim button every second or two (count "one-Mississippi" each nick) at least 20 times in a row. Both of my collars malfunctioned within the first 20 nicks and within each 20 nicks thereafter. I tested the collars on my forearm and on the side of my neck, (which Dogtra strongly objects to), at levels 15 and 20. BOTH collars had the double-tap problem. The "boost" effect was more random and I only felt it once while testing the 2nd collar. Wondering if I might be mishandling the button, I had someone totally unfamiliar with e-collars test the 2nd one on his forearm, controlling the unit himself. "Oh yeah," he said, within about 10 nicks. So this is not just me. Again, I regret writing such a strong negative review about a product made by a company I respect, but Dogtra needs to accept that there may be a problem with more than a couple of these collars. I cannot believe the unit they returned to me as "repaired" was tested on a human being. It should have been because I wrote this down and my description was still attached to the transmitter when I got it back. Electric collars are tricky enough to introduce to dogs. Collars that don't give the corrections they advertise shouldn't be sold. Period. Please fix this.
