Sage - The Custom Loaf - Bread Maker
Love it. This Sage Custom Loaf Breadmaker is good looking and of reasonable size. Fingers leave their mark on the brushed stainless steel outer case, but are easily wiped away with a clean cloth. It is so straightforward to use. The clear digital control panel is clear and easy to navigate. I’ve made various loaves and Pizza Dough. It offers so many readily available choices for different breads. It can even mix Pasta, or make Jam; 4 loaf sizes; 3 selectable choices of Crust. The dough mixer paddle reverses automatically and folds flat at the end of its sequence, so there is only a shallow mark on the bottom of the loaf, rather than the huge hole left by some other brands. The smell and taste of freshly baked bread is wonderful. This is in my humble opinion, the best of its type on the U.K. market today. I am a very happy and satisfied customer.

Easy use,easy clean, easy everything
Brilliant!! So easy to use.easy to clean. I’m useless at cooking much more than baked beans. This is as simple as pouring in the ingredients in order ( all explained via the sage PDF ) press a couple of buttons and away it goes Even clean up is easy. 10/10 Like the delayed start means we start the morning every couple of days with the smell of fresh bread. Shop bread no longer appeals at all ( all the extra stuff they throw in bread now is the main reason for buying this machine ) Obviously you lose a bit of convenience as Fresh bread only lasts a few days before starting to got stale very quickly ( so we find ourselves making smaller loafs more often….benefit of this is house always smells nice. It just tastes and feels so much better. Won’t go back to shop bread ( well maybe the odd Gail’s designer bread ) Oh yes also it has a little light in it so you can check and watch it do its thing. Most don’t have the light and viewing window but it’s weirdly exciting to have a sneaky peak. Looks smart, feels ok made. It’s big takes up a good patch of counter top real estate but guests always comment on it Only down side is suddenly everyone thinks we are baking them a fresh loaf…..

One of my favourite Amazon purchases!
This bread maker is absolutely incredible. I'm still amazed how a little paddle can mix up dough so perfectly, leaving nothing on the sides. I'll be watching it mixing, and there will be flour stuck to the sides, and I say to myself "there's no way its going to get all that", but it does. It's magic! The collapsible paddle is great. It leaves a fairly wide but shallow hole in the bottom of the load, rather than a deep one that ruins your slices. The machine looks amazing, although slightly industrial. It depends what kind of look you're going for, but personally I think it looks really good, modern and stylish. The display is very simple to use, and the recipe book makes it almost impossible to mess it up. It tells you the amounts of each ingredients for each individual loaf size, and tells you which settings you need to use on the machine itself for the desired loaf. The machine also has a built-in seed dispenser which drops seeds, fruit or whatever else you want, at exactly the right time. BE WARNED HOWEVER, that you can't put very small seeds in it like sesame seeds...they will fall through the gaps and get into hinges and all sorts. If you want to use tiny seeds, I suggest adding them by hand when the machine buzzes. The mechanism for the seed dispenser is very clever too; it's an electromagnet built into the main body, which switches on and pulls a switch in the lid. The lid is completely free of electrical components, meaning it can be removed ans washed etc. Can't fault the quality of the bread. It's been amazing every time. I've also used to machine to make pasta dough, although I'll admit I have had to add more water to the recipe given in the book, as it's been very dry. Hope this review helps!

I Like it but I am Disappointed...
Received my machine yesterday, at first glance looks great bright big display with many setting options etc, but at closer inspection it is rather cheaply made, even though it comes well packed it had slight dent on the body, this is due to the thin flimsy stainless steal. also gaps where panels join and stains in the stainless steal on top cover. Personally i think its over priced, if the finish and quality of build was better then yes worth every penny. On first using it after preparing the machine as per instructions i set it it for a crusty loaf and away we went, it started ok after a minute it started making strange noises like it was grating or cogs were slipping, not very pleased at all... As i did not want to go through the process of returning or getting it fixed I took it apart knowing that it would void my warranty. Removed bottom panel which revealed the drive belt, and when i checked it it was loose... so i loosened 2 screws which allowed me to move motor and tighten the belt... which seemed to solve the problem, and my next loaf the machine did not make any untoward noises. and the bread came out well, no complaints there at all. I am lucky I managed to find the problem and fix it. This in my opinion is very bad quality control, and testing of the product before shipping. Even so I do look forward in trying other recipes and hope it continues to bake well.. (PHOTO IS AN EXAMPLE TAKEN FROM ANOTHER MACHINE and NOT THE SAGE as i forgot to take photo) ***UPDATE ( Sept 2nd )*** Have since baked 5 loaves, 2 today and have no complaints. My FIX seems to have solved the problem and it operates quietly. I love the Modify setting, where I can alter all the individual operations, helps a lot. The folding mixing paddle is hit and miss, the only time it worked and the bread came out of the baking tin with persuading it to come out was my second loaf today... So quality and issue aside, I was just unlucky. I recommend THE BREAD MAKER!!

I’VE HAD A FEW - THIS IS THE BEST.
I’ve had several breadmakers over the years but this is the best. User interface is simple and menu choices are straightforward. The illuminated display is brilliant. It is a solid, all stainless steel, good looking machine. I had a small problem with the mixing paddle but a modified version was supplied by Sage immediately when I notified them. Excellent customer service. The quality of the bread produced is exceptional and even when I have experimented the results have always been excellent. The most user friendly and tolerant machine I’ve ever had.

My Bread Making Buddy (aka Dough Whisperer)
I never thought I’d get emotional over a bread maker, but here we are. The Sage Custom Loaf Bread Maker has turned me into a full-blown carb enthusiast. It’s got a ton of features—collapsible kneading blade (so no big hole in the bottom of your loaf), a fruit and nut dispenser (yes, really), and a light so you can watch your dough rise like it’s a reality show. The controls are surprisingly easy to use. I’ve tried white loaves, wholewheat, and even an experimental maple pecan situation that made my family briefly think I’d gone pro. Loaf sizes, crust shades, and custom settings galore. Want it light and fluffy? Done. Burnt like it survived a dragon attack? You got it. My only tiny complaints: it’s a bit bulky and not exactly whisper quiet during the kneading phase—but honestly, that just adds to the drama. If you want bakery-quality bread without needing actual baking skills, this machine is your new best friend. 10/10 would loaf again.

Not worth the price ……
I’m adding an update now in February 2025 to this review and reducing the stars I gave it. Not only did the collapsible paddle not work but after about 16 months of light use the whole bread making process became unbelievably noisy as there was a constant knocking/banging noise while it was mixing. The noise became so bad the dog barked at it every time!!. The cost of replacing the mixing tin was too high - so I’ve given up and am buying a cheaper machine - at about the same price as the replacement tin would have cost. My son also had this model and his did exactly the same at around the same age. He too has now bought a different make. Very disappointing for us both. This was an expensive breadmaker and I originally thought it was sturdy. However the collapsible paddle didn’t collapse which was disappointing. I hoped it would sort itself out. As you can see from my updated review it didn’t work itself out - it got worse. The bread it made was good - but not worth the price nor the hassle of putting up with the noise.

I’m a little bit in love with this bread machine!
I had wanted a bread machine for a very long time but felt overwhelmed by reading mixed reviews of different models and makes! In the end, I plumped for this Sage model, even though it was on the more expensive end of the price spectrum, but I have been delighted with my decision. The machine is incredibly easy to use (I’d go as far as saying it’s idiot proof!) and I love having the light function to check on progress, as I’m still early enough in my bread making to be excited every time I make a loaf. The machine is very quiet and the folding blade is great, popping out of the loaf easily at the end of the bake, leaving only a small hole in the base of the loaf. I’ve made white and wholemeal loaves so far and both have come out really well, with good density and a lovely crust on both. It’s been brilliant having the smell of freshly baked bread in my kitchen and lovely homemade bread to eat but with minimal effort and great bake times! I highly recommend this make and model, especially for first time bread machine owners like me! My top tip is to buy some beeswax lined bread bags, too, as they really do keep your loaf fresh.

Great and easy bread at home!
Most Sage/ Breville equipment looks beautiful and works well. This is no exception. It makes great loaves, when you want them, and wakes you with warm bread and that aroma…. This machine does the same that my old Kenwood does, but the bread is airier and lighter. It has many programs for other things too. The finish is also amazing. If you need bread at home and that made easily, this is a great buy. I’ve made loaves using a stand mixer and oven and they come out very well, but there is a lot of prep work. This is as simple as add your ingredients and press a button

I love this product!
Makes Amazing bread! I have just made wholemeal bread though... The best thing is the modification button on the existing recipes. Works like a charm.... Only 2 reasons for giving it a 4 star is after the nut dispenser opens up we have to shut it manually. Because the 1st time I didn't close it there was a smoke coming out... so following that i have made sure to close the dispenser. secondly, it is a bit of a challenge to clean the collapsible paddle because the dough gets stuck on it, but because of this mechanism, I think the dough gets a nice massage and it doesnt create a big hole at the bottom of the bread. But the baking is evenly done even in the lightest setting and it gives me the most fluffiest breads... i love it!

Disappointed
I received an open item which is clearly a returned product From someone else. I can’t use it as what if that person damaged it and then I get stuck with it

No recipe book
Received today and have already made a great gluten free loaf but had to search the internet for recipes. Most appliances come with at least a few basic recipes to get you started. Internet reviews of this machine showed a recipe book. Disappointed with that but pleased with how the machine works.
