This is truly an essential resource for all sewists! Set to be the new The Art of Manipulating Fabric , Ruth Singer offers a modern interpretation of fabric manipulation in this book, with hundreds of full colour diagrams. Discover and explore 150 creative sewing techniques including pleating, folding, gathering, smocking, quilting, trapunto and applique. Ruth explains her innovative variations of these traditional fabric manipulation techniques and offers inspirational project ideas demonstrating practical applications to create accessories and home decor. Photographs and illustrations are included to support the step-by-step instruction for each technique and all of the techniques can be done by hand or with a domestic sewing machine without the need for specialist equipment. Review: Is it worth it? Sewing Edition - After going through this book and trying some designs out, I can honestly say I really enjoyed this book. I think the pictures and illustrations are clear- although practice will definitely be needed. If you are into historic costume you would love this book as so many of the golden manipulations you see on the lovely clothes are given. For those in fashion design this is a nice way to decide on some interesting details that can be added. Is it worth it? Yes. Is it a must have for me? I would say yes. This book does not have as many manipulations as the book by Colette Wolff but I feel this one is much more user friendly, and real life applicable. Review: This book also is a great reference book for "quilting" and different variations of "quilting" ... - Directions are clear and concise. I have not had time to do any of the projects in the book yet, but cannot wait to try them. I am a beginner at "smocking" and "sewing" and still learning the steps and techniques.. The directions in this book will make learning a whole lot easier. Anybody new at "smocking", or anybody who wants to learn will definitely benefit by purchasing this book. This book also is a great reference book for "quilting" and different variations of "quilting" such as "trapunto", "applique", "pleating" etc. Good Information on fabrics, techniques and tools for the beginner or advanced sewer because everybody needs a little extra help now and then! Very informative book to have as a reference book whenever you are working on ANY sewing project and need extra help or have questions. Thanks Sandy

Manipulation
Everything I ever wanted to know about fabric manipulation and then some. You can make fabrics look like many things besides fabric. If your looking for how some types of armor are made in costumes, this book is a good resource.

Fuel your Creativity with this book
This book is amazing!! I love it. I have used it with both fabric and paper designs. The directions are very clear and there are so many ways to use the techniques. As a costumer, I loved being able to experiment with these fun techniques as trim or additional texture to my creations. I really recommend it for sewers who love to experiment or add detail to their work.

Origami lover finds new outlet in fabric
I was already into origami when I discovered quilting, so naturally I have sewn and been aware of folded fabric quilt flowers and other designs. I have never seen the array I found here, though, and I am ready to try many of them. Quite a source of inspiration.

Great ideas
I have a whole handbag sewing business and I'm having a block on new ideas. The hardest thing about sewing handbags is the work that is done inside; like pockets and zipper placement. I wanted more structure for the outside that catches the customers eye. I have looked at several resources on the Internet and none of those resources have given such great instructions. This is a must have for your sewing library.

No pattern manipulation
For what it is it’s ok. That being more for trim and things made from your fabric. I had hoped for more full pattern manipulation.

Ojalá en español
Me han gustado todos apuntes. Lo que me ha gustado es que esté en inglés y no en español
