Great for small builds
I purchased this for an ITX build in an NCase T1 focused on 2k gaming. It stays nice and cool with a low profile cooler (Thermalright AXP90 X47) even after hours of gaming. It doesn't require much power so it suits compact builds. The integrated graphics are usable enough to play some smaller indie games like Castle Crashers. For the right price, it's a great choice over the similarly performant 7600X.

It's fast... and inexpensive!
Pros: It's an inexpensive cool running (more on that in a minute) CPU that performs very nicely. I just replaced my older Ryzen 9 5950X 16 core/32 thread fire breathing thermonuclear heat generating beast after it started having issues. I went with the little 6-core Ryzen 5 because I painfully learned that most applications and games still can't take advantage of many cores/threads. Instead, the GPU does most of the multi-cores heavy lifting these days so the 9600X's 6 cores/12 threads is plenty. Cons: 1. For some reason, out of the box AMD sets the CPU voltage a bit high so temps could be lower. Going into the AM5 BIOS and turning on PBO (Performance Boost Optimization) set to Auto and setting the Performance Curve to a Negative bias of 20-30 safely and easily undervolts the CPU and gives extra performance. It does this while also lowering the temps. I don't know why AMD doesn't set it like this initially as I've read that most 9600Xs will tolerate Negative 30, which is pretty substantial. Mine is set reliably at Negative 29. 2. I'm a bit disappointed that even at 4 nanometer manufacturing process the 9600X doesn't have much headroom for overclocking. After watching a few frustrated YouTube overclockers trying to go from the stock 5.4Ghz to 6Ghz, a paltry 11% overclock, it's not even worth the effort as that tiny increase won't even be noticeable, other than perhaps for benchmark bragging rights. It will also generate a lot of unwanted heat. If you're in the tropics like I am, that's a definite NO. Overall, the 9600X is indeed a fine CPU out of the box. A couple of BIOS tweaks makes it even better. 😁

Cool, Stable Zen 5 Power Meets Poor Shipping Protection
I picked up the AMD Ryzen 5 9600X to see how the new Zen 5 architecture handles daily workloads and gaming; while the processor is a fantastic performer, the shipping experience was a total letdown. It arrived on a rainy day in poor packaging, and the box was completely soaked through by the time I got to it. Since the CPU was dry inside its plastic casing and worked fine, I decided to keep it; however, the ruined box definitely kills the future resale value, so keep that in mind if you like to trade up later. Performance-wise, this chip is incredibly efficient. It runs very cool thanks to the 65W TDP, and it has been perfectly stable even with a -10 PBO Curve Optimizer negative offset on all cores. It handles my Kingston Fury Beast 6400MT/s CL32 (38-38-86) DDR5 RAM beautifully on my MSI PRO X870E-P WIFI motherboard and Zotac RTX 4070 Twin Edge Non-OC GPU. I have noticed one small quirk where I occasionally get a terminal underscore or cursor hang in the top left corner after restarting from the BIOS; it is likely just a minor handshake issue on the graphics side, but once the system is up, it is rock solid. Overall, this is a great lower mid-range choice if you want modern performance without the massive power draw or heat of higher-end chips. It plays very nicely with high-speed DDR5 and offers plenty of room for undervolting and tuning. Just be prepared for minimal shipping protection; if it’s raining in your area, you might want to make sure you can grab the package as soon as it lands to avoid a soggy box.

Just perfect for the price
This is my favorite price to performance CPU. It runs faster than the previous Ryzen 5 7600x and it's 65 watts instead of 105 watts. It works great to cool for a small form factor build...probably the best choice you could get at the time of this review.

Great CPU
Great CPU, moved up from a 3800x, so this was a refreshing experience, everything is a lot more snappier! Thermals are also pretty good, not to mention it's a very power-efficient chip. Overall wont get too much into it, but by modern standards, this CPU is enough for a lot of people.
