This magnetic arm is much more elegant and sturdy than the old spring-style I used to have. The magnetic plate makes it easy to teach and detach the iPad. The iPad mostly snaps to the correct location without fiddling. The arm is very sturdy and doesnât bounce very much when touch typing. The cons areâ 1. The arm is *very* stiff. Once I set it how I wanted I donât bother trying to bend it. 2. There was a slight learning curve on the magnet. At first I wasnât putting it on quite right and knocked it off (scratching my brand new m4). Also, I have to be sure to remove the iPad and/or move the arm so I donât accidentally knock off the iPad when getting up (itâs mounted next to my couch). Overall Iâm very happy with the arm.

*UPDATE* iPad damaged after falling off this mount from a light, upwards bump on the back/bottom edge of the device while it was mounted on this. Just a very slight bump on the back/bottom edge of the tablet itself (like, when you're raising your arm to your face and the back of you hang just bumps it) is enough to cause separation. The magnetism alone is clearly inadequate to secure this device - I wish I would have stuck to my $30 clamping arm mount I was using previously.. Unless you're going to be using this mount above only super soft, thick carpet, I would advise against it. The main thing that makes this potentially not a good buy is the fact that it is designed to work exclusively with the M4 iPads. This means that this will be future landfill material when you upgrade (hopefully future generations are compatible, but who knows). I really think it would have been cool if this mount was designed so that you could swap out the magnetic plate in the future, so that more devices could be supported. Even if they just included one of those plastic spring loaded clamp attachments that most generic tablet arm mounts use, so that you have the option of universal compatibility. The next problem is that this thing is INCREDIBLY hard to adjust. Like, use both hands, even put your body weight into it. It would have been great if the tension in the joints was adjustable, because this is a bit ridiculous. However, my main worry is the joints, like many, will loosen over time, to the point where things just flop around, so it would be great to have teh ability to tighten things down if that happens. This wasn't that big of a deal for me fortunately. The whole arm spins pretty easily at the base, and that's really all I need it to do. Another confusing omission - no padding on the magnetic plate. I just don't like the metal on metal feeling. The size of the magnetic plate you put your ipad on is also just kinda weird. It's smaller than the ipad and requires very specific positioning to attach properly. It just takes a few seconds to line it up and make sure that its secure, because you can't just easily see or feel when it is. It would have been nicer if it was just a simple matter of lining up the bottom edge of the tablet with the bottom edge of the plate, or if the top went all the way up and had a cutout for the camera bump to help guide positioning. For the price, I think they could have done better here. My solution was to put a vinyl decal on the plate, to help reduce the likelihood of scratches on the back of the ipad. That all having been said, I'm overall happy with it for my needs, so I'm giving it 4 stars, but I could easily see someone else (who needs an easily adjustable arm) viewing this as more of a 2-3 star item.

The magnet works fine. Itâs strong enough to hold the iPad without too much wobble. Part of the design feels very durable and strong. But after 4 months the twisting mechanism is frozen and wonât turn. No clear or discernible reason why. This has made it unusable now. Update: They saw my review and offered to refund me. I asked for a replacement and it's been great. I don't know if I'll have the same issue in a few months, but I respect a company that stands behind their product. I'm adding a star. The base also wobbles and there isn't a way to tighten it. Itâs not awful, but for nearly $100 I expect high quality all the way down to the details. Overall, itâs fine, but definitely overpriced.

Magnet is not strong enough or in the right place

I agree with most of what's been said about this, but there are a couple very consequential points I haven't seen anyone raise. One, the joints are SO stiff that 1) you need a super, super solid surface to support it 2) the clamp cannot be made tight enough such that it doesn't give (e.g. twist and turn) every time you want to adjust the joints or rotate it; in fact no matter how tightly I clamp it to any surface, it can be fairly easily wiggled free I had three different places where I was considering placing it (desk, nightstand, and a wooden shelf), but none of them would work because the surface was not solid or heavy enough. The only option turns out to be my granite countertop in the kitchen; it does work out quite well there but it's not what I intended. Also there should be silicone pads on all sides of the clamp facing your surface, not top and bottom. Particularly in light of the twisting and turning that it will be subject to.
