It comes in half pieces so you can install and remove without removing the entire rail. It doesn't, however, tighten completely around the rail so if nothing is pushing it down, it has a tendency to slide with a bit of driving. Don't know if this was specific to my exact one and maybe others are tighter, but the screw wouldn't allow me to tighten it snugly around the rail. But it did stay attached none the less and do it's job.
