The Tarantula Scientist (Scientists in the Field Series)

Loved this book by Sy Montgomery. The first book of Ms. Montgomery that I enjoyed was about the octopus. She tells these stories of amazing creatures in such an enjoyable way. You want to see these amazing creatures and people who study them, and care for them. Right now I have two tarantulas living in the opposite sides of my desert yard. It has been interesting watching them.. The one that has lived here longer tends to be less afraid when I go out to take a look at them, these are amazing creatures, as are many in our world. They have been here as a species much longer than we have. As human beings we should try much harder to live alongside them. They will most probably be here after we have gone, unless we have managed to destroy all of the earth.

This book is a book full of lovely pictures, and with a beautiful lay out. It is worth buying for the great close ups pictures. But mostly I think this book is made for kids who will like to learn of the Tarantula-world. If you are an adult who seriously wants to keep Tarantulas, buy some of the other books, like The Tarantula keepers guide, and Animal Planet's, Tarantulas. And to have some fun, buy "The Lagacy of Annie Rose" by Carolyn E. Swagerle....

A very interesting read about tarantulas, where they live and other interesting facts.I chose this book to fill a prompt in the 52 Book Club Challenge 2024.

I first read this book way back in middle school and lately I’ve been on a real Tarantula binge, highly recommend this book to anyone who’s curious about natures 8 legged rulers of the jungle.

Very well written, interesting facts, awesome pictures. My grandson loved it so much he now wants his own pet tarantula!

My 4th grade students LOVE this book. Students on, above and below reading level benefit from its engaging content, alone; depends on how you plan. I look forward to using it for informational text instruction every year. It has great text features throughout, makes tier 3 vocabulary fun and easy to learn (Why say spider when you can say arachnid?!), covers the childhood history of the subject (motivation for budding scientists) and there are myriad online supports for lesson planning. Everyone seems to love this book. You'll be in good company.
