Robust and easy to use
Mum has always struggled with technology, and despite attempts to do it there’s no chance she’s going to cope with a smartphone. Instead a regular mobile phone like this one is her best option. With arthritic hands the buttons need to be well-sized and easy to press, and she’s coped well with these ones. The menus on it are fairly simple, and better than they were on old non-smart phones that I used myself. I like that it’s possible to keep things very simple especially if someone else does the setting-up and adds the contact list etc. Build quality is much better than expected, and it feels reassuringly robust without being bulky. Battery life has been good too, and a second battery is included which we’re pleased about. It’s worth noting that some dexterity is needed to change the battery, and even to insert SIM or memory cards, but that’s not unusual with a mobile phone. It’s also important to know that a small piece of protective insulation tape is installed over the battery’s contacts from the box, and it must be removed before the phone will switch on. In terms of appearance this phone looks good, with a smart appearance. I’d certainly be happy to use it myself, and in fact I think it would be an excellent choice of phone for anyone needing a robust model. This one is more likely to survive daily life in a rugged environment than any smartphone I’ve used.

It got a secret web browser
A little expensive and slightly larger than what I was looking for, but it is tailored to olde people. Battery a bit of. Disapointment as it seems to last less than a week with 2 sims running and only a few phome calls. In comparison, my previous phone, Q Mobile purchased in Pakistan in 2014, still gets at least 10 days and is considerabl smaller build though the screen is about the same size. One interesting "hidden feature" is that there is a Opera internet browser that I can only open by clicking links received in text messages. I have no idea if there is any other way to access it as I cant find it mentioned in the menu anywhere.

Handy as a backup in the car
Design and Durability The AGM M9 stands out with its robust build quality. It's designed to withstand harsh conditions, making it ideal for seniors, outdoor enthusiasts, or anyone needing a reliable and rugged phone. The IP68/IP69K waterproof rating means it can handle being submerged in water and exposure to dust, making it extremely durable. I’ve dropped it a few times, and it has held up without any issues, which speaks volumes about its ruggedness. User Interface and Buttons One of the phone’s best features is its large buttons, which are perfect for seniors or anyone who prefers a more tactile interface. The buttons are easy to press and respond well, making dialing and texting straightforward. The simple user interface is intuitive and doesn’t overwhelm with unnecessary features, focusing on basic functionalities like calling and messaging. Connectivity and Performance The AGM M9 supports 4G connectivity, which ensures clear calls and faster messaging. It also has excellent reception and call quality, which is crucial for a basic cell phone. The battery life is impressive, easily lasting several days on a single charge with moderate use. This long battery life is especially beneficial for seniors who might not remember to charge their phone every day. Additional Features Large Buttons: Easy to use for seniors and those with larger fingers. IP68/IP69K Waterproof: Extremely durable and resistant to water and dust. Long Battery Life: Can last several days on a single charge. Pros Durability: Can withstand drops, water, and dust, making it highly reliable. Large, Easy-to-Use Buttons: Perfect for seniors and those who prefer tactile feedback. Long Battery Life: Reduces the need for frequent charging. Simple and Intuitive Interface: Focuses on essential functions without unnecessary complexities. Good Call Quality and Reception: Ensures clear and reliable communication. Cons Basic Functionality: Lacks advanced features found in smartphones, which might be a downside for users looking for more functionalities. Camera Quality: The camera is functional but basic, which is expected for a phone focused on ruggedness and simplicity.

Durable, senior-friendly, and reliable basic phone with great features
The AGM M9 4G Rugged Basic Cell Phone is a fantastic choice for seniors or anyone needing a simple, durable phone. The large buttons and large fonts make dialing and texting easy, and the fast-dialing option is a helpful feature for quick access to important contacts. This phone is impressively rugged, with IP68/IP69K waterproof and drop-proof ratings, so it can handle outdoor conditions and accidental drops without any issues. It also includes convenient extras like FM radio, a bright torch, and 3 card slots (two SIMs plus an SD card), which adds flexibility. The two 1000mAh batteries ensure extended usage, which is great for emergencies or outdoor use. It’s well-designed for older adults and anyone who values simplicity and durability in a phone. Highly recommended!

nice and rugged
straightforward, durable phone, and overall, it has been a good choice. The large buttons and easy-to-navigate menu make it ideal for someone who wants to avoid complicated smartphones. The speaker volume is also excellent, ensuring that calls can be heard clearly. a key feature for elderly users. The phone's rugged construction is another highlight. It feels solid in hand, and the fact that it’s more waterproof than most standard phones gives me peace of mind when it’s being used outdoors. For those looking for simplicity, this phone is perfect, no unnecessary apps or complex features, just calling and texting functionality. The additional standby time due to the large battery is also a bonus, although availability of replacement batteries upon quick inspection and warranty may be a concern.

Perfect backup -or so I thought
****note follow up report**** While the phone is rugged the battery life is abysmal lasting a day at best. Either the cells are rubbish quality or the power management system has been badly implemented*** Perfect backup phone or basic knockabout phone for day to day use on harsh worksites along with being good for elderly as it does have a loud speaker. Remember though the SIM card and memory card mechanism is the slide and lift type (ZIF) but isn’t shown so easily confused with the fixed type where you slide the card under it. Doing this will likely cause it to break.

Basic and simple… just how we like it!
AGM M9 4G Rugged Basic Cell Phone: Definitely for those who like a phone to be a phone…. This is a nice basic model that you wouldn’t buy for its ability to be a camera (although it has a reasonable one), for your tunes (although it will support music) or for accessing your Apps and internet (it won’t do that). Instead this will provide a decent phone with nice big buttons that you can see easily and feel the “click” when you depress them. It’s also got a reasonable sized screen which is clear and easy to read. It’s sold as a rugged phone although it feels a bit plasticky and we haven’t had any catastrophes on which to test it as yet, however I can see from other reviewers that theirs have withstood a good deal of wear and tear, so I’m hopeful. At under £60 I guess buyers understand that they’re not getting an all singing and all dancing piece of tech but there is definitely a place for a basic and functional cell phone and this meets the criteria. My husband hates “fancy phones” but loves this model for its simplicity and ease of use. Great for older people and younger kids or anyone who likes the simple things when it comes to technology.
