Awesome tool for the exercise in our dog equation
We are the proud new owners of an adult (approx. 6 - 7 year old) labradoodle that we adopted a couple weeks ago from an animal shelter. As first time dog owners, we've been reading materials about how to make this transition successful, and stumbled across Cesar Milan. We've been following his formula to successful dog ownership, exercise - rules / limitations - and affection. Our dog is high energy, and during our first week even though he was walking 4 miles a day and running two miles on top of that, he wasn't really challenged enough. I tried taking him for a bike ride just holding on to the leash, which was very exhilarating but highly dangerous for both of us. That night I started digging into reviews of bike leashes, and settled on this one. There are plenty of other reviews about the specs, so I'll focus on our experience. I have a Specialized 29er with disc breaks, and while it was a little challenging to figure out where to attach it to the frame, it wasn't impossible. It does not fit over both the chain stay and the seat stay, but I was able to attach it to the chain stay and it is very secure. It does not interfere with the disc breaks. When not in use, it slips up nicely and clips under my seat. It was very easy to set it up and apply it right out of the package. I attached it right to our dog's 1" collar, and we were ready to go. I was initially a little concerned about it pulling on his neck, but as I've been observing him as he runs, it isn't pulling on his neck at all. It's merely a guide as he runs along. If this becomes a concern, I will purchase a harness as others have suggested. I had initially been having him heel on the right side, so it took a slight adjustment for him to be on the left. He did have a tendency to chew on it when we were initially getting set up, so we worked on that immediately to prevent him from damaging the leash. He weighs about 50lbs. Ever since we adopted him we've been teaching him to be focused when we're on walks, and biking hasn't been any different. Any distractions that have come up have been very easy to correct. When I was stopped and another dog came along, he was able to pull the bike around to go sniff the other dog, so that might be a concern with a dog that has a tendency to randomly lunge. I did not make a separate trip into our vet for permission to use it, as I had just had him into the vet last week and was give a clean bill of health. We have been starting out gradually, only allowing him to go a couple miles in the beginning. I hold him back in the beginning for a warm up, then let him run for a while, following it up with a walk on the leash for a cool down. So far, our longest ride has been about 4 miles. I have been keeping a close eye on his pads for wear and hot spots. He still seems to have plenty of energy, but getting better exercise than we could provide by only walking and running at our pace seems to have helped tremendously with his excess energy. Getting exercise at his level has allowed him to be much calmer around the house, and has cured a great deal of his restlessness. Being a newbie dog owner still, I have weeks of experience instead of years, but a key seems to be that you keep working with your dog in all kinds of different situations. Starting in a less trafficked area with few distractions seems like a wise choice to me, and then gradually work in more obstacles and distractions. Having a consistent working relationship with your dog seems key too. All that being said, it's going to be a whole lot nicer to get out in the rainy, 50 degree weather today and go for a 25 minute bike ride instead of a 45 minute walk, knowing that my dog is still getting the exercise he needs. If we have issues with the structure and longevity of the device in the future or further safety concerns, I will update.

Worth the Price!
Purchased this back in March to exercise my then 7 month old lab. I thought it was pricey but it has turned out to be the best purchase for exercise and enrichment. It is easy to attach to my bike and I rarely need to tighten up the connection. When my dog pulls sideways, the bike slows it doesn’t tip - don’t understand the physics behind that phenomenon but it was a big concern that she would pull me over but seems impossible based on my experience. Great quality and flexible but stable attachment! No issues at all and I’ve ran her daily for 7 months using this. I DON’T like the marketing showing to attach the dog at the neck. VERY dangerous. I bought a great American made harness with multiple points of attachment on the back (Alpine Outfitters Urban Trail Adjustable Harness). Works perfect together. In the warm months I always have a kiddie pool after the run so she can cool down quickly.

Pricey but Works!
I was a little hesitant about spending so much and almost bought a less expensive model, but after reading reviews decided to just start at the top! I haven't regretted it. My 'little pony' (a 75# yellow field lab--15 mos old) absolutely loves to bike (and swim, and play, play, play), and to say my long-legged girl is a bit rambunctious would be a gross understatement! And she is olympic-athlete strong! I biked with her until she was 10 mos old with just a leash, but now she needs more stability and so do I. This tow leash/bar fits the bill perfectly. It's stong and resilient in spite of her sudden pulls (oh, a bug! oh, a leaf!) and lurches (gotta potty right now!) and I no longer am pulled over with her sudden changes of direction--also my hands are free to control the bike. I still keep a loose leash on her collar, but only because we stop frequently for water and potty breaks (we go several miles at a time) and we disconnect from the bike. I use an EZdog chest halter and hook the tow leash to the ring on the back of it--I like that better than the direct clip to her collar. Of course, she can't go as fast or as far as I can ride by myself, so these are exercise trips more for her to get to run than for me to get an all-out bike ride, and I have to watch to be sure she doesn't overdo it. She likes to go full out, and the yellow insert is flexible and 'gives' in and out of the red sheath as she pulls or dodges objects as we ride, giving her lots of freedom to move closer or further from my side. She did have a tendency to try and bite the bar over her right shoulder when we first started, but now ignores it. The bar attaches to the hub of my bike wheel with ease (and doesn't give or slip) and is also easy to remove--though I usually just clip the clasp up onto the underside of my bike seat when I ride alone. I've used this for about six months now, usually once a day at least with my rowdy girl, and it is holding up good as new! Highly recommend!

I use this on a disc braked eMTB. Works really well with my German Shorthaired Pointer dog. Only issue I had is ensuring the mount doesn’t block the speed sensor on the frame which uses a magnet on the disc.

The leash sent to me was the shorter version of the BTL which is not for a bicycle, and was also Red and not Orange as described. If I were to reorder it would be directly from the supplier, to avoid misunderstanding and disappointment irrespective of the Amazon seller refunding the difference in cost for the shorter version which is slightly cheaper.

I ride my bike with my Weim pup and this leash is super flexible, durable and it stabilizes my bike even if my pup wants to chase after a squirrel. It’s very easy to install and no tools required. This is the BEST PURCHASE I’ve made and it’s well worth the money. I feel in full control when cycling and I never have to worry my pup yanks me in different direction.

I purchased a Bike Tow Leash as a gift for me from me, a number of years ago, and love it for my trike and my 2 German Shepherd girls. I absolutely love it as it gives me another way to spend time with my girls, with all 3 of us getting exercise. My friend, a super dog lover, also enjoyed the concept immensely.... so I did what I had to do, and purchased one for her as an early birthday gift. Unfortunately, winter arrived a bit early, so she is looking forward to giving it a go in the spring. Bottom line - this is a perfect gift and easy to safely use. Enjoy!

Super compra. Mi perro se adaptó fácilmente a correr junto a la bici y aun si se distrae no le permite desestabilizarme. Mi perro es un Husky siberiano
