Trailer Park

Always like to play this when making a long car journey down the M11. It chills me out and I'm a big Beth Orton fan. A very nice album indeed and would recommend it to anyone who likes to chill a little while driving the motorway. The Last Days of Thunder Child: Victorian Britain in Chaos!

I never had any Beth Orton on vinyl back in the day as CDs had taken over. I am more than impressed it really does sound better on vinyl

Beautiful music

This mixed album is, for me, another step down from the excellence of Central Reservation . Her lovely earthy voice shines through best with simplicity, and whilst she can do a good trancy dance sound, this album all too often resorts to silly electronic sounds that perhaps try to obscure a lack of good basic songwriting originality. The simpler songs on this album likewise display a lack of originality, sometimes resorting to rather average musical cliches. The lovely personal touch found on Central Reservation is here not nearly so evident, and the trancy final track is miles short of the trance-dance track on that album. This album is an unimpressive average affair overall.Though it by no means is bad, it takes me nowhere at all.

I still love this album all these years after its relase, and anyone who was taught to play guitar by Bert Jansch ca'nt be bad anyway. Been re playing this a lot lately and its as good as it ever was/.;

Oggi come oggi il termine folktronica va molto di moda e sono parecchi gli adepti a questo stile di folk elettronico. Negli anni 90 questo termine era decisamente meno noto e se si dovesse andare a cercare gli album seminali che hanno "battezzato" questo genere non si potrebbe trascurare questo gioiello uscito nel 1996, seconda prova di Beth Orton, splendida sirena da Norwich. Beth ha una voce incantevole e la imposta sui canoni del folk tradizionale. Poi però adagia le sue melodie folk su un tappeto ritmico a base di trip hop ed elettronica assortita ed è magia pura. Se si leggono le note di copertina del cd e si vede chi c'è tra i suoi collaboratori, molte cose si chiariscono subito. Will Orbit e Andrew Weatherall sono nomi che non hanno bisogno di presentazioni. Lo stesso vale per Ted Barnes e Ali Friend, due terzi dei Clayhill (strepitosa band di indie pop) che la aiutano sia in chiave compositiva che come strumentisti. Da una simile parate di talenti era dunque lecito attendersi grandi cose che puntualmente arrivano. Undici brani di sfacciata bellezza, ipermoderni oggi, figurarsi 20 anni fà alla loro uscita. Album capitale per capire molta della musica folk di oggi.

Questa volta la recensione di ONDAROCK non è pari alla mia: quasi deludente.

Started with Daybreaker and worked my way backward through Central Reservation and just received Trailer Park. All three are excellent. All three are different and unique in their own way. I think that Beth's voice is clearer and less edgy on Trailer Park than her later work which is a very pleasant surprise as the lyrics - which are excellent - can be understood. In some ways this CD reminds me more of Daybreaker than CR as both span alot of musical territory from straight acoustic guitar to orchestral movements. There are few artists that I can honestly say that I take great pleasure in all of their CD's, Beth is one. Yeah I know I haven't mentioned "Best Bits" which I have also received but have not really listened to - but this is a remarkable string of CD's. There are those who simply do not like Beth's voice and those who don't want to spend the energy to listen to music that is better with active brain activity. That means that you really have to listen to the music to really get what Beth is doing - it really is not suited to backround music. If you don't fall into either category you will more than likely fall in love with Beth like I have.
