From Store-Bought To Home-Brewed Bliss
After learning about the many health benefits of kombucha—and spending way too much buying it at the store—I decided to try brewing it myself. I did some research and realized the first thing I needed was a quality SCOBY and some starter tea. The GAIA SCOBY was exactly what I was looking for! It arrived quickly, well-packaged, and ready to go. I followed the instructions and brewed my first batch. After 7 days, it was ready for second fermentation. I flavored it with honey mango, raspberry, and lime—absolutely delicious! I'm now finishing up my second batch and couldn't be happier with the results. This SCOBY is healthy, active, and perfect for beginners. Highly recommend—10/10!

Easy to start
Really good quality kombucha. This was really easy to start and it even included the tea to use so you don’t have to guess which tea to buy. It includes enough tea for 2 rounds so once your scuby grows another you could easily start another batch. It has never molded and I even made hard kombucha with it once. This is by far the best starter kombucha I have tried

Weak and ineffective starter
The package may say 8 oz but what you really get is more like 5 oz weak starter tea with a shrimpy 3 oz Scoby. For the price they're charging just go get a 16oz Scoby from Fermentaholics. They'll give you a strong starter tea. This Gaia Scoby ruined my batch. I just had to pour it out. I'm going with Fermentaholics. 10 days wasted smh. Their starter tea was so weak the kombucha never got acidic enough and ruined to mold.

Great Scoby
Great Scoby and haven’t had any problems with it! Made my first batch of kombucha with it this past week and turned out great!

It's working, making batch after batch. (I even kept it alove for a month :-) untended.)
Making happy 'booch one batch at a time. It's doing a good job with my green tea, brew after brew. So I just got back from a month long vacation and had left the scoby in a fresh jar of doubly sweetened tea. The scoby was sitting on the bottom of the jar when I got back :-s. I hopefully tossed in a few teaspoons of sugar and went to bed, (it was after midnight when I had arrived home). By morning the scoby had risen and was floating on top again. Success. I poured off the 'vinegar' and started a new batch. I expect it will be up to it's usual lovely 'booch'. that I was drinking before I left. Delighted to have successfully stored for her (the scoby) a month1

The perfect Scoby!
Everything you need! Even includes a sample of tea. This was ideal with instructions to reinforce everything I do and why. The Scoby is healthy and I can't wait to taste my new brew! GAIA is a name to trust and was thrilled to find my Scoby on Amazon.

Delicious, strong culture starter.
Couldn't have asked for better. This will not ferment honey. To ferment honey-made kombucha one must develop a scoby themselves from bee-bread honey, which contains different microorganisms in the bee-bread than a usual scoby like this one. Bee-bread is fermenting pollen stored in the hive. Different yeasts, bacteria and enzymes do that. Use sugar with this scoby. Bee-bread honey costs up to $300 per pound, and is obtained only in mid-summer after a bear tears up a bee-hive, which is not commonly allowed, so honey fermenting scobys are nearly impossible to find unless obtained from a beekeeper who is a kombucha brewer, who had bear problems. Honey does ferment, but purchased honey is usually sterile, and the wrong yeasts are in normal kombucha. Reviews complaining it will not ferment honey are misled. It isn't supposed to. Use table sugar. (Honey can be added after ferment, to sweeten without causing a burst of fermentation.)

Failed Starter
Failed! I have been fermenting kombucha the last 3 years and I am not new to kombucha fermentation process. BUT this was either dead starter or the tea might have antimicrobials in it. Noted no activity or bubble for 10 days and no change in taste. I brewwed it with the tea sample that came with it after cooling the tea overnight. No luck with this one!

Despite following all the instructions on the website, my kombucha went mouldy. After reaching out to the manufacturer, they said they were unable to help as the scoby was sold through a third party seller. Don’t buy it!
