IF YOUR DOG HAS FREQUENT EAR INFECTIONS YOU MUST BUY THIS
After years of taking my dog to the vet multiple times a year for an ear infection and spending $100 each time, I finally bought this cleaner and it is a game changer! I use it anytime his ears get wet (from swimming, snow, playing with other dogs, etc) or anytime he starts shaking his head, and we have not had to go back to the vet yet! They also sell the otic enzymatic solution that I use if by some chance it starts to get bad, but I’ve only had to use that once after a particularly slobbery play date where I didn’t use the cleaner (oops!). This cleaner has saved me so much money and saved my dogs ears from infections! If you have a dog who gets ear infections, you must keep this on hand!

A shot in the dark...
Having a five month-old pup, we got used to the little puppy scratches that he does - no fleas or hotspots but it's pretty commonly accepted that puppies scratch more than adults. It was because of this that it took a few days of our pup shaking his head periodically for me to realize that his ears were actually bothering him. Taking some lukewarm water and some cotton wool I cleaned out the outer ears as best I could, and found all sorts of ear wax and what looked like mud in the outer ear. Taking a flashlight I took a deeper look in his ear, and saw a ton of buildup. Then I remembered him digging in the dirt at the dog park. Knowing that water wasn't going to cut it, and not wanting to use our emergency vet fund on something this simple early on, I jumped on Amazon and came across Zymox. The reviews were very promising, but with no experience with this product it was a gamble whether it would work or not. With overnight shipping I had it the next day, and was ready to use it. TIPS/DIRECTIONS: 1) Make sure your pup has had plenty of exercise and is tired out. This is easier to use while he's laying down. 2) Put your dog on his side, affected ear facing up 3) Thoroughly wash out with Zymox without squirting hard into the ear canal. This could damage the drum. 4) Turn your pup on to his other side (affected ear facing down) and massage the ear from the base, allowing the cleanser to come out onto a paper towel 5) Be grossed out at all that comes up. 6) Use cotton wool or a SOFT paper towel and with outwards strokes bring as much wax/debris out as possible 7) Repeat immediately if necessary, then once a week for overall ear health A LOT of dirt came out of his ear - the poor thing we had no idea that it was that blocked up!! A quick inspection with the flashlight again showed that it was almost completely clear of debris - and we are allowing a few days for the enzymes to work on overall health. He hasn't shaken his head since, and I almost think he can hear better! He's a good pup, and we're glad he's more comfortable. I would read through all of the reviews for this product - not only does it clean your dog's ears but it kills bacteria and clears up ear infections to boot! We'll be keeping a bottle on hand for any future use, and HIGHLY recommend giving it a try!!

This has worked so well for us.
In January 2018, we adopted a senior kitty with a severe waxy ear problem and a cauliflower ear from an infection that was the result of her constant scratching. The itchiness and discomfort in her ears caused her to constantly drool, so her little chin was rough and raw from being constantly wet with saliva. Poor kitty! For a month or so, I used the ear cleaning solution from the pet store, but I wanted to find something better. That's when I found the Zymox line of products here on Amazon. I used the Zymox Otic 1.0 treatment for the recommended 14 days, then switched to the Zymox ear cleanser for weekly cleanings. You cannot imagine the amount of black gunk that came out of her ear every week. It is now six months since I started treating her ears with Zymox and I'm happy to report that we are seeing such an improvement in her condition. Her ears still get dirty, but not as much as before. She no longer cries when I'm cleaning them and she has stopped the constant rubbing and scratching and head shaking. She no longer salivates constantly and her chin has healed up considerably, with the help of some soothing kitty skin cream. Yesterday I cleaned her ears after three weeks of not doing it. Oops! I normally do it on a weekly basis, but what can I say, life happens sometimes. Anyway, I was expecting so much gunk to come out of her ear, but it wasn't so bad! After three weeks, they were as waxy as they normally are with weekly cleanings. This is not to say that I intend to go that long without cleaning her ears from now on; I really think that faithfully sticking to the weekly cleaning schedule is what got us here, so we will continue with our weekly cleanings. I'm sure she will always need help keeping her ears clean, but I feel we now have the situation under control. I'm just so thrilled to see her happier and more comfortable and with a better quality of life. This product has really been a blessing; I highly recommend it.

Solid item in the struggle against pet ear gunk.
This has landed for me in the ranks of things that work pretty well on most of my pets, but unfortunately still leaves me with no completely suitable ear cleaning solution for one of my cats. Let me clarify. I have no issues with this formula; it works well, loosens dirt in the ear canal, and doesn't seem to cause any irritation. In all of my animals, except one. I have tried every possible ear cleaner for one of my cats, and every single one, no matter how safe/organic/scent free/few ingredients/etc, has caused him to get irritated, teary eyes and to paw at his head. At this point, I think I have to just call the game and go back to using a little pad dampened slightly to clean the outside of his ear canal, and hope for the best. It's no reflection on this product at all.. it's effective enough to stay with the other bottles I've tried in my futile attempt to find one that works for my oldest cat. The dogs and the other cat all tolerate it just fine, so it'll be used up, absolutely. Just be aware that if your cat is like mine.. you might have to keep trying. Or give up. Like I did. ;)

A must have if you own a dog!
Zymox saved me a vet trip! I have shih Tzu who's ears produce a lot of wax and after a bath my dog ended up with a slight red ear and warm to the touch ear that was heading towards an ear infection. I used this and after 3 days his ear was clean and back to normal. Make sure you try and wipe out all the excess product off the fur/hair or the wax it removes leaks down from the ear and will coat the hair/fur kinda of like a dried candle wax on the hair.

The best to keep gunk and pain away from my GSD
When I adopted my German Shepherd dog, she had a prescription of antibiotics for an "ear infection" and I was told she got ear inflections quite a bit. Once we settled in to each other and our new lives together and I got to know her better - she didn't have "ear infections" - she had dirty ears that were filled with gunk which caused them to swell and cause discomfort. I started her on the Zymox ear cleanser and slowly worked all of the gunk out of her ears - which actually felt really good for her since you need to massage the fluid into various parts of the ear for at least a minute before you let her shake her head. Very quickly she began to enjoy seeing me come at her with the container of Zymox because she knew she would get relief (and a nice massage). Less than a week after frequent and consistent use (read the bottle) all of the gunk from her ears was gone and the inside of her ears was a nice, healthy pink color. After using the cleanser for a period of time, there is a "maintenance" product that I use only once per week and I wipe them out with ear wipes (DO NOT EVER USE PAPER TOWEL OR OTHER HARSH PRODUCT INSIDE A DOG'S EARS). After two years together, she has never had antibiotics for an "ear infection". As a German Shepherd, she plays outside a lot and runs and gets into things. After running outside (especially in Summer) I simply squirt some of this in her ears to prevent any buildup of pollen, dirt, grass, etc. and wipe them out with the ear wipes. Clean and happy GSD!

Better than Expected
OK, first -- bought this by mistake to start. For acute ears you want 'Zymox Otic with Hydrocortisone 1%' (Zymox Otic Pet Ear Treatment with Hydrocortisone). So we picked that up and used it for 7 days. Every morning squeezing in enough to fill the bottom of the canals. Our 5 year old GSD has had her share of ear 'infections.' Invariably that leads to vet, antibiotic drops or pills, cortisone. Invariably the ears get red and 'musty' again, especially during humid NJ summers in cut grass. 7 days in and the redness and head shaking was gone. Now we wondered - the enzymes or the cortisone... We started twice per week cleaning with this Zymox Ear Cleanser With Bio-Active Enzymes after the initial week. Did that for one week and am now doing once per week ear cleanings and -- we're 3+ weeks post first use and not only are her ears not red, they're even a bit less than pink. A perfect hue with absolutely no yeasty smell. And the light wax she now has is white to clear, not brown. A 2nd issue she gets is her lower belly with get a staph circle from all of her exercise. It leads to the same cycle - vet, pills. So, we just picked up Zymox Pet Spray with Hydrocortisone and 1 week in the belly is almost 100% clear. Have Zymox Medicated Antibacterial Pet Rinse on order as a, hopefully, maintenance product sans the cortisone. Purchased all the products mentioned above locally. Much costlier so now we use AMZN to keep them stocked up. But in talking to the pet store owner, she said A) Most purchasers have similar stories to us and B) She can't keep Zymox on the shelves. I had the same worry that you do -- that these great reviews were not legit. Check my reviews from the past. This one is. If we could we'd own a barrel of Zymox and DIP our German Shepherd into it once a month :) Fingers crossed that this continues to keep her ears clean and healthy. Vets need to look into this before scripting the amoxicillin so quickly...for $60 bucks.

Greasy/crusty after it dries
So I have 5 dogs. As a routine, whenever they get a bath, they also get their ears cleaned right after in case any water accidentally got in there, and also gives me an opportunity to really inspect their ears and make sure they’re healthy. So! This product is basically unscented. It has a very slight sweet-smelling chemical scent (say that 5 times fast). My only issue with this product is that it leaves this crusty/greasy film around the ears after it dries. Which is frustrating... since I use this right after the dogs get baths. I don’t think I’ll order this again for that reason. I think the product cleans the ears as it should, but it really does make my dogs ears look and feel dirty after use. My friend even commented saying I should clean my dogs ears after she felt the residue. I had to inform her that the ear cleaner itself is what make it look and feel like that...lol
