★★★★★ — A Worthy Replacement for T/Gel I was skeptical at first, but the Amazon Basics Therapeutic Plus Coal Tar Anti-Dandruff Shampoo absolutely delivers. It’s every bit as effective as the Neutrogena T/Gel formula I used for years before it was discontinued. The coal tar treatment helps calm my scalp and keeps flakes under control without being overly harsh or drying. The texture and scent are familiar, and it lathers well. For anyone missing T/Gel, this is a fantastic alternative—and the price makes it even better. So glad I found this.

Amazon finally brought this shampoo back after several years. This works great and is identical to T-Gel but without their price gouging prices. My guess is that it comes out of the same factory like so many products do now. For those who complain it smells bad...get over it all Tar shampoos smell the same way. For those who complain it has cancer causing content...get over it almost every Tar based shampoo says the same thing or they hide it. Tar is petroleum based and therefore the warning and smell. After you use it and rinse it out the smell is gone and you will stay dandruff free for days. And for those who complain about the dyes, get over it, the amounts are so minute you have more in your morning cereal than this shampoo and you eat that. My guess is the negative reviews are from T-Gel related people trying to save their price gouging prices. We highly recommend this shampoo and use it on a regular basis and it works GREAT. A quarter size amount gives you more lather than you need. Before complaining use it a few day and you'll see real results equal to or better than T-Gel for only pennies.

I have mild to moderate seb derm with scalp itchiness and nonstop dandruff. Alternating this shampoo and Neutrogena T-sal when I wash my hair every other day has transformed my scalp. It no longer itches and I have virtually no flakes even on day 2 between washes. I wear black scrubs at work and I no longer have "dust" on my shoulders! It's been 6 months since I bought my first bottle and started that regimen and I'm only halfway through it. Yeah it's got an industrial smell but it washes out, and honestly I kind of like it lol.

Texture is OK. Smell of Coal Tar is very strong. But, this is supposed to be one of the best for dandruff. It turns my white hair nice and silvery.

Great for dry scalp. It looks like motor oil and smells like it too. But it is the best item for my psoriasis. It worked so fast.

I have tried everything for the flakes I get in my hair (past tense), even though my scalp is on the oily side. I have even mixed my own batch of witch hazel and tea tree oil before…with no luck. It’s called Psoriasis and if you get patches of it on the back of your head this coal tar based shampoo is for you! It gets rid of the plaque buildups and prevents it from reoccurring. You can try more expensive tea tree oil based products and expensive shampoos like nioxin but this simple yet effective formulation might be what you have been looking for all of these years! If you can relate to these comments this product might work perfectly for you…and it’s one of the cheapest products on the market! I have tried neutrogenas version of coal tar shampoo and this works and smells the same. Good luck and I hope this product works for you like it works for me! In addition, it prevents itchiness and leaves your hair soft. And I have never had a problem with bottle leakage. I find the moisture level left behind in your hair is adequate enough not to use a conditioner plus it really cleans your hair well!

Works great. So much cheaper than the T-Gel name brand stuff. Smells just as icky but that means it's the same. I think it is actually the same stuff completely.
