What a fantastic way to expand your quilting skills and create something beautiful in the mix. This is a tradition design that takes many different quilting methods to make an amazing quilt. On each page you get diagrams to show you each of the construction steps to make each of the blocks. There are also notes with each to help you to understand the makeup of each design. I don't feel the book is for a new quilter but it's good for using the different designs to bring together all of your skills. At the start of the book there are details about cutting the blocks and sewing the blocks. Then at the back of the book there is information about making the blocks, cutting out the lattices and sewing the quilt top. It also takes you through cutting the borders and applique pieces. Next you are given information on making the border, cutting & backing as well as completing the quilt. At the back are full-sized block templates and the pattern sheets. The traditional motifs are brought together in a beautiful design. I received this book to review. However all opinions expressed are my own. No monies were exchanged.

16 blocks, 8 applique motifs form the basis of the stunning quilt in this book. Use the block and motif designs to create an interesting quilt of your own design or follow the clear, step-by-step instructions. It's easy to follow and nicely illustrated. Full size templates are included. Whilst intended for a sewing room, this quilt could be hung anywhere, especially if you eliminate the border motifs.

This was a bit disappointing. I know the reputation that Yoko has as a quilt designer and her work is utterly fantastic, but this book was a let down. There are quite a few foundation pieced blocks, which I personally don't like as a technique, and not so many applique or pieced ones. What bothered me was that the tree in the bottom block is crooked, maybe this is so it looks more natural but this would bug me if I produced it. I have made the dresden and will probably make one or two more but overall I wasn't over enamoured with it, I'm not sure why as the finished sampler does look nice. I intended making the whole thing by hand but as the block size is only 6" and some of them have numerous small pieces, I may not do this now.

A delight to read and see her wonderful blocks. Her use of taaupe fabrics are so soothing and sent me on a shopping spree to find similar fabrics. Her instructions are clear and precise. I recommend this book to anyone who would like to try this method.

Yoko Saito's work is outstanding. I love her muted colours and hand stitching. This is not a book for someone in a hurry to finish a project...pure meditation.
