Can this model be used or modified for drag tip usage, in other words some other brands Hypertherm allows you to drag right on the tip

Yes. But the machine only last about a yr. Buy hypertherm. The first died after 11 months and the replacement did the same

Is it cnc ready? if not can it be? how different/expensive?

I couldn't say, I bought this as a portable cutter and bought a hypotherm pm65 for my table.
