What would happen if I’d use this on old textured English sandstone flags?

This can be a very abrasive tool as it will grand concrete and self levelling compound both of which are a lot harder than sandstone. Like most tools of this sort though it’s down to personal use and force used. I’d suggest practicing on something to get a feel for how it works before going at the tiles. What is it you wish to do with the tiles? Clean them or grind them smooth? If you want to clean them yet keep the look/texture there are chemicals for that.
