How long do I need to let this “rise” out of the packaging before I use it?

The moment you cut into the plastic, it should rise. The package reminds me of the vacuum-seal products on the market.

Is it to soft that it won’t support your tailbone?

It has good support, however if you are tall it raises you up a bit. I use it on trips longer than 2 hours and find it helps.

I'm a large man at 300 lbs? Will it work or will I just pancake it?

It's a little more than straight mem foam so it's not too bad, I am 300+ lbs as well and I use it in the car , seems to work well....
