I’ve set up the whole thing and have plugged power into the adapter but my monitor says there is no hdmi signal coming from the device. How do I fix

Please confirm you changed it from RGB to Component output otherwise it wont work. You need to follow the instructions EXACTLY as below.

Once you do this once, you never need to do it again

Step 1) Connect your PS2 using the standard AV or SCART cable to a
compatible TV. If your TV does NOT support a ‘Scart’ or a ‘Red/White/
Yellow; connection, then you must find a suitable TV to use for just one time
until this change has been carried out. If you don’t have access to a ‘Scart’
or ‘Red/White/Yellow’ compatible TV, then please skip directly to Step 9)

Step 2) Start the PlayStation2 with no games in the CD/DVD tray.
Once the main menu loads, go into the System Configuration menu

Step 3) Keep pressing down on the D-PAD until
you see: Component Video Out

Step 4) The setting needs to be changed from ‘RGB’ to:
Y Cb/Pb Cr/Pr

Step 5) Make sure this setting is changed and is NOT left on RGB.
Please verify it has changed by restarting the console and going
back to the setting and assuring it is still on: Y Cb/Pb Cr/Pr

Step 6) Exit the menu and turn off the PS2.

Step 7) Connect the HDMI adaptor to the back of the PS2 and connect
your HDMI cable to your TV. Connect the mini-USB cable plug to the side
of the HDMI adaptor and then plug the other end of the USB Connector
to one of the PS2’s front-USB ports. Please Note: Make sure there is
nothing else connected to the PS2’s other USB port for now, as the
device requires full power from both the PS2’s USB ports for first use.

Step 8) Switch on the PS2 and verify the HDMI convertor is working.

Step 9) – This step is only required for those that don’t have a TV that
allows a ‘Scart’ or a ‘Red/White/Yellow’ connection, or alternatively
for those that no longer have an original Playstation2 AV Cable.
If you don’t have the ability to connect this way to change the
setting before first use, then follow Step 7 and connect your
HDMI adaptor to your HDMI TV in the correct method.
Switch on your PS2 with no games in the CD/DVD tray.
You must now carry out the following button sequence whilst having
a black screen and not being able to see anything. It is therefore
essential that the buttons are pressed exactly as follows:
• Press down once on D-PAD then press X
• Then press down, down, down, then X
• Press right on the D-PAD, and then X
If you did everything correctly, the image should now
display on the screen using the HDMI adaptor.

Please don’t forget to change this setting before
first-use otherwise it will NOT work.

If for some reason the adaptor is still not working on boot-up, try changing
the USB connector to the other USB port on the front of the PS2.

How do you change the setting on the Ps2 if you cannot get the console set up to your hdmi TV to do so before hand?

Very good question. You will need to press the sequence of buttons on your controller whilst blind (as there will be no image on the TV). If you do this in the correct sequence and then reset the console, it will work. Its about 7 button presses I think from the top of my head. Do you have the sequence? Thanks, Kaico

does this cable cause  frame rate issues?

It's the console and game that determines the frame rate not the dongle.  It works really well, the only issue is how your modern TV upscales the image.  On some tvs the image will look soft.  It works best with games that have a progressive 480p option.  Which on ps2 is only a few games.  Maybe 150 or so.
