SO EASY!!!
I have an old Kenmore top loader with the (porcelain enamel?) coated steel drum and mostly white plastic components/fins on a center agitator. This product states it is for front loading machines, but I had no problem using this in my type of machine. Instead of placing the whole pod in, what I did is let the water start coming in and rise up several inches, then poured in the contents of the pod and swished it around with a gloved hand while it co tinued to fill a bit more, then added the already damp/wet items (just previously washed and spun out but not dried) just before it finished filling to desired level and began to agitate. I set the agitation speed to heavy duty/fast, because for even coloration, it is important to keep the fabric moving through the dye solution. Be careful to get it all in and lid closed, so you don't get splashed when it begins to agitate. I did like it said and only filled machine water level half way, and I had only 2 garments, an old, thin pair of denim capri's and a new pair of Old Navy jeans (their dye jobs on their jeans lately are atrocious, in my opinion) that I wanted somewhat darker and more uniform in shade. I wish I had taken before and after pics, but that aside, I think this product worked BEAUTIFULLY. Nice, even result that still has characteristic traditional denim look. This will depend on what your garment is made of. Mine were mostly cotton with some stretch material included. Perfect for this application. I got a nice medium shade from this. I might have liked it a bit darker, but I'm pleased. Things that could have gotten darker result: 1. Maybe use a little less water in the tub 2. Use contents of 2 pods (but who wants to spend that much?) or 3, pay closer attention and go reset the machine so the items go through the agitation cycle twice (spending more time in the dye bath) before letting it run out, rinse, spin, etc. No "cons" to using this as I did, and many "pros" to list: -all in one product, so no separate purchase of soda ash required -works in cool water, so no risk of shrinking -No staining of machine! I expected to have a mess to clean up, but aside from a few little blue speckles on the gasket-looking thing at the top of the drum, machine looked fine before I even did the subsequent wash cycles! (You run the clothes through a wash when you're done dyeing, then they recommend you run a full cycle without clothes to make sure all the dye is flushed completely from your machine.) The white plastic components of the agitator were unaffected. It didn't even stain the glove I used - They say this dye will not bleed after you complete the dyeing and subsequent wash which permanently sets the dye into the item. This remains to be seen, but from extensive reading about this type of cool water dye (vs. products like RIT) and other reviews, I am confident this will be the case. (Picture is of the damp item on a drying rack) Conclusion: 100% would use this product again :-)

Better than expected!
I started looking for options to dye clothes when a company that makes my favorite shirts stopped selling the colors I normally order. I was VERY skeptical when I first found these because of all the bad reviews, but if you read the instructions and do exactly as it says then you end up with phenomenal results. The shirts I dyed are a linen, cotton, spandex blend. NOTE THAT SYNTHETICS CANNOT BE DYED. It clearly says this on the pod and I think this is the reason people get such mixed results with this product. The “Jean Blue” turns out beautifully and am looking forward to using the “Olive Green” I ordered as well. You do have to run longer cycles, so be prepared for that. It took about 3 hours to do an original wash, dye, and then run the clean cycle on our washer. Not too troublesome, but from start to finish took some time. Anyways, very, very, happy with the initial results and will be curious to see how the color holds up over time.
