Fantastic device.

Was able to use this device to connect Internet connection from my home to my Casita and to my pool. Everything works amazing. It is a fast connection. The taxi installed. It did a great job. We’re very friendly and made no mess. Would recommend this product to anybody.

Great Managed PoE Switch for Small Networks

This is perfect for the home network or small office if you only need to expand a few connections. Seamlessly connects to the Alta Labs Route10 router, and updated extremely fast. After some tinkering and setting up a few vlans it seemed to isolate well. DCHP Guard did interfere with my some of my IP assignments across multiple (non-overlapping) vlans. Disabled and there were no problems. Port management is very easy through the cloud-based controller which is growing on me. I'm still undecided on the overall UI, as I'm not used to it and certain setting can seem hidden but it's very snappy without an issues/bugs.The switch is well built and the design is sleek. Matching the Route10 makes it visually appealing while maintaining a professional look for anyone who keeps it on a desk or out on display. Great value and you get a lot of features at a decent price-point.

Good with some room for improvement

The switch operates very well and was easy to install. The port configuration user experience is really lacking however. The UI is too small, and it uses these pop-ups that quickly overwhelm the browser window. It’s also not exactly clear how to properly configure the ports for your VLANs. I understand that is going to be user specific, but there are almost certainly some common configurations that many users are targeting. Some documentation or tutorials from Alta Labs would go a long way, but even better would be if they made this simple by design the way they have with setting up SSID types on their access points.

Pretty Happy - What I expected

I have two of these now running at the edges of my network. It's been handy having POE in places I did not in the past. The cloud dashboard is super handy and while I can definitely say it's not perfect, both switches have been completely stable since I installed them. Having visibility from the cloud is something I have loved having professionally with Meraki and other brands. I've used Unifi in the past and I just can't get behind supporting them anymore. The Alta Labs interface is leaps and bounds more modern than the Aruba InstantOn series, which is what I'm replacing. As long as you set your expectations properly (modern cloud managed UI with most to all key features you'd expect of a SMB class switch at time of writing), I think you'll be very satisfied. The device adoption process is very slick and other vendors should take note of this. The company is extremely active on their forums and are constantly rolling out new releases. I am thrilled to be able to support another SMB as they try to get off the ground.I am likely going to expand my deployment to 3 sites, each with 1-3 of these switches and a couple of APs over the next year or so.

Amazing Support, Promising Startup

It's important to connect the switch to the Internet and let the Alta app completely update the firmware. Once that is done, you will be golden.I have purchase many Alta products for testing purposes to see if I want to roll them out to customers/clients, and I think I am ready for that. Their support is amazing and super quick.I can't wait for their router.

It's just an "okay" managed switch.

Overall, this switch is just "okay" if you are looking for VERY small office / home usage cases.Pros:- Took 30 seconds for the app / cloud interface to recognize the device.- Unit adopts almost instantly, and pulls all network configs.- Very sturdy as far as build quality goes.Cons:- Switch gets VERY hot just sitting there, even with little traffic / routing.- With 3 ports populated (1 Eero 6+ in Bridged / 1 SFF PC), sitting between 30% - 65% System utilization.- With above ports populated, sitting between 48% - 52% Memory Utilization.- VERY bright port indicator lights. Almost blinding honestly. Not dark room friendly. For the price I paid for the switch vs what I am seeing resource management / usage wise, I honestly don't recommend using this switch more than for a small office setup. It would do well for a PC, VoIP Appliance, Smart Hub, printer, and a few other small network appliances but nothing more than that. If you are planning to plugin a server or two, or something that uses more bandwidth, I would plan to find another managed switch. Or, I would recommend picking up one of the other larger switches Alta Labs sells.Alta Labs although good, does have a long way to go if they want to be on-par with Ubiquiti or TP-Link Omada equipment. As far as the switch goes, they REALLY need to optimize it a bit more before I recommend putting it into more than just a single office space.

Not ready for prime time

I bought several of these to put in remote offices where we have a single AP-6 Pro and only a few network connected devices. I have had nothing but problems with them, as well as the AP-6 Pros. I want to like them, but they just have SO many problems. I need dependable network devices, so I went back to my previous brand. Hopefully these guys will get things ironed out, because their support is very good, just sub-par software from what I can tell.

Great Switch

Technically, I got this switch just to run my POE camera that I've got in the garage, and also provide a connection to my computers there, so its probably really overkill, but it does work just fine.Build quality on it is about what you'd expect. Plastic enclosure, nice quality RJ-45 ports, and a nice feeling texture. The power budget of 60w is plenty for a couple of cameras, and according to the power brick, its 54v at 1.3a. Some of that has to go to powering the switch itself, so it adds up.I didn't really need to mess with anything in the software or interface since its just plugged into a couple simple devices right now. Overall happy with the quality and hope it will last for a long time.
