How long does regeneration process take?

Hi, thank you for your question about the WS455 Water softeners only require periodically topping up of salt, water for the regeneration process and a minimal amount of electricity. The exact amount will vary depending on the size of the household and the local water hardness. Around 75 Lts of water and 1.2 Kgs salt produces 1600 Lts of softened water at 300 ppm hardness. The WS455 water softener is controlled by a microprocessor which constantly monitors water usage. The system will build up a history of your water requirements and calculate the most economical regeneration pattern, it would be around 1.5h using tablet salt. This will ensure a constant supply of softened water whilst maintaining high levels of water and salt efficiency. As this water softener uses a proportional brining system, more frequent regenerations do not necessarily mean higher water / salt usage. The saving on toiletries, household cleaning and laundry products can also offset any running costs reducing the impact on the family budget to a minimum. Does this get plumbed in to the water feeding the central heating? Thanks

It’s not a good idea to have your central heating filled with softened water unless it’s designed to do so. The softened water will create an environment that will corrode the aluminium used in the boiler components etc. Always use water straight from the mains supply. Also, don’t forget that you must also provide a separate unsoftened mains water supply for drinking water and cooking etc. A ‘Triflow’ type tap can be a good idea at the kitchen sink.

Can the ws455 & ws555 be used with a direct system i.e. no header tank? thanks.

I fitted my ws555 direct to the water main coming into the house... there are no header tanks in my property... I followed BTW advice & installed it with the 22mm(?) fittings supplied & converted the immediate pipe work to suit... I have to say I’m more than happy with it... the water changed instantly... we use a lot but we’ve never had a problem with supply... great bit of kit at reasonable money!

can I install it directly on the combi boiler ?

Dear customer, Thank you for your query. We would normally recommend that the WS455 is installed on the incoming mains water supply to ensure the whole house can benefit from BWT Luxury Water. There is no issue in using the softener to protect a single item and most Combi Boilers will benefit from being fed with softened water. However, you should always check with the boiler manufacturer and follow their advice before commencing work.
