Incredible miter saw with a smallish dust port - and a fix.
What a beautifully designed and manufactured machine this is. Cutting is smooth and precise and all settings are easy and lock fast. I was hesitant at first to purchase a saw with those new robotic arms instead of traditional rails, but the positive reviews I read convinced me to give it a chance. I am not disappointed. Now for the small downside and the fix: The dust port on this saw is small - 1 5/8" OD. The tiny sawdust bag that fits this port does an inadequate job of dust control for all but the smallest cuts. The sawdust generated tends to go mostly into that small collecting bag but much of it doesn't make it that far and the excess just sprays around. That's not much different from other miter saws I've owned, which is why I opt for attaching a dust vacuum instead of relying on a passive collecting bag. I've found that a simple shop vacuum does as good or better job - at least for a miter saw. Finding a correctly-sized adapter between that small (1 5/8" OD) saw dust port and my 2.25" (OD) vacuum hose proved very difficult. Nothing I could find was the right size. The solution was to go to plumbing connectors where I purchased a Fernco Inc. P1056-215 2-Inch by 1-1/2-Inch Stock Coupling (found on Amazon). The small end fits loosely over the saw's dust port and the large end fits over the outside of my shop vac hose. A few twists of the included hose clamps and the joints are nice and tight. With the shop vac sucking there's almost no dust visible at all. Also consider adding a laser to this great saw (it does not come with one). The Bosch LS010 Miter Saw Laser Washer Guide fits and works.

So far so good
I have been looking for a good 12" miter saw that does not take up a bunch of room. I would love to have a Festool Kapex but I have not won the lotto yet and am not ready to sell body parts or one of the kids (yet). I have seen the reviews about play at full extension but I believe I can manage to not manhandle the saw. I will saw out of the box its pretty well set up and I do not think there is a smoother glide out there. for 400.00 this is a steal. Unless it sucks then I will up date after some good useage.. UPDATE: this saw is really good, very powerfull the biggest complaint for me is the blade that came with it is garbage and the dust port is odd sized small how hard is it to measure a shop vac hose and make it easily compatible

Overall very happy. Minor quirks but would still buy
Unlike a lot of reviews for this saw, Delta did not give me this item and I bought it after comparison shopping. The other saw I was considering was the Bosch axial glide. I bought this to upgrade on an older Delta saw I owned for about 15 years as I needed the sliding feature for wider stock. After about 3 months of use, here are my impressions. This is a very good sliding miter saw for a great price. It is well built and the sliding mechanism is better than anything else out on the market as of this writing. Any minor advantage that the Bosch axial glide saw has is dwarfed by the approximately $150 price difference. The saw arrived in a fairly beat up box which I blame more amazon's delivery process. The item is fairly heavy but it was well packed and arrived without any damage. I went through a fairly extensive process to verify squareness and angle alignment for all axes but the saw was pretty much dead-on and I didn't end up adjusting anything. Some reviewers reported some off-axis travel as the blade went through it's sliding range of motion but I did not find any. I saw other reviews about blade deflection at its furthest travel. That is, slide the blade to its furthest extension and apply lateral force and measure how much the arm deflects. As other's mentioned, I found the deflection to be slightly greater than other sliding miter saws (Dewalt and Bosch in particular) but only slightly. To me, this only matters if normal use causes an operator to inadvertently apply lateral force when cutting. I found the saw to be very smooth and laid out well ergonomically so it is difficult for me to see this being a problem when used correctly. Things I liked: - The detents on for the common bevel settings (45, crown, etc). I haven't seen other saws with this feature and it is great. - Very sturdy without being too heavy. - Total crosscut capacity is on-par or better than other manufacturers' flagship products. Some minor annoyances or things I wish were different if anyone from Delta is reading this... Like others said, the dust control is not very good. The plastic dust collector that hangs down at the back of the saw is too small such that for typical use, most of the dust misses the collector. If you examine the design though you can see why. though. This saw has the ability to increase its crosscut capability by removing the fence. If the collector was any larger it would get in the way for this situation and possibly in the cases of large bevel angles. An easy engineering fix would have been an adjustable collector that can be repositioned out of the way on larger cuts. One way to mitigate the amount of dust produced by the saw is to connect it to a shop vac. As others have said, the dust port is a non-standard size (at least for the US market) making finding an adapter extremely difficult. Delta suppling an adapter that works with US hose sizes would have gone a long way here. Other minor improvements that could have been made: The handle on the top is about useless. It is too small to comfortably carry the saw and as others have pointed out, it feels flimsy. So much that you are not quite comfortable trusting it to support your $500 saw. There is a little too much clearance in the base for the saw blade at full travel. The total width is maybe 3/8-1/2 inch wide (I didn't measure though). I think you probably could make a zero-clearance insert because the existing insert is plastic and appears to be removable. That said, the factory size means way too much cutoff material falls in that space and is not super easy to get out. There is no laser. For precision work, I don't know how much I trusted the laser on my old saw but for rough-cuts (framing, etc) a laser is a great time-saver. I still would buy the saw again even though it doesn't have one but in the end, I wish it did. Others have added aftermarket solutions but I have not yet. The clamp is basically useless. Its only adjustment is the screw which means you are going to spend way too much of your life screwing the clamp in and out to adjust for different wood thickness. Almost anything else would have been better here. Things I'm not sure about. Apparently the blade is belt-driven (I haven't opened the housing). My old Delta saw was direct drive. I can maybe see why they moved to a belt drive as the motor can get in the way for certain cut with a direct drive but eventually, the belt will need to be replaced and I'm not looking forward to that. In the end, I would definitely purchase again.

Great Saw and easy to use.
I replaced a radial arm saw with this one and am very happy with the saw. The service was good and the saw accurate out of the box. With the radial arm saw, I had to constantly check of accuracy as it would move slightly from time to time. This saw does not require checking as so far after more than a hundred cuts, it is right on. I replaced the saw blade with a better blade as the one that came on the saw is not of the highest quality and did not last very long. Not that any saw I have ever purchase had a top quality blade. So, that did not influence my opinion at all.
