It means, C3000 is compact body, 3000 is standard size, and double handle means, that the handle of this version is equipped with 2 knobs and not with a single one, like you can see it on the baitcasting reels. The image here on Amazon shows the standard handle.

What the difrences between c3000 and c3000hg?

Difference is only in gear ratio, meaning that HG is with higher retrieve speed.

Looking for a saltwater reel. Fishing for trout and red. How will this hold up?

I have used an old Sahara 4000 for reds and speck trout with 10lb mono with a heavier leader on a 6'-6" classic Ugly Stik rod . Just make sure you rinse and wash your gear after a saltwater trip . Ive ruined a Berkley Cherrywood rod . The guides started to rust after 2 years later after a saltwater trip fishing for speck trout .
