GREAT PRODUCT
I would highly recommend getting this pill dispenser if you need to do self medication management for a family member. Money well spent. I would also recommend getting the stand for the dispenser. It's an additional cost but makes the setup complete as an integrated system. Got this setup for my 93 year old mother with advancing dementia and some hand arthritis. Paying a monthly fee of $400-$500 USD to have her retirement facility provide medication management is a costly expense and quite bothersome. I was using weekly pill boxes until that became problematic with the timing of dosing, extra dosing and missed dosing. The Pivotell eliminates all those problems. After using the pill dispenser by itself for about two months, her biggest hang-up was not inverting the dispenser enough to turn the alarm off. She would get the pills, but not go any further at times. She would then stick her fingers in the pill opening trying to turn the alarm off and then trigger an error message and error alarm. That's my biggest complaint about the dispenser design. I wish it was more fool proof against this happening. Once the error alarm is set, it will continue to sound until it's reset, which means I have to make a special trip to reset it. If the alarm timed-out after a few minutes, that would be a better design. Adding in the stand has eliminated most operator problems. It took about a week for her to get the hang of using it. At first she wasn't pulling the lever all the way forward and hence the alarm wouldn't turn off. I'm in the US and there's an identical pill dispenser product from e-pill that's twice the cost. Both appear to be made from the same manufacturer in Sweden. The total cost was Pivotell in the UK was $139 USD. I opted for standard delivery and it took about two weeks to get the shipment. When I got the stand, I opted for express delivery and received that in a few days via DHL. I would recommend paying that extra fee to get it in a more reasonable time frame. Buy the stand at the same time if it's for an elderly person or if the person has any physical limitations in inverting the pill dispenser.

Works well and is robust
Bought this for my mum who has early dementia memory issues. She was double dosing on her tablets. I had bought a cheaper version which did not work properly so returned it and bought this one. It is pretty straightforward to programme and has worked on time every time (3 times per day). It also has a screw on the battery compartment (mum tried to take the batteries out on the previous cheaper make, as it kept flashing low battery) which is useful. It also has survived mum banging it to try to get at the tablets when they aren’t due. The security mode is useful. The tablet compartment locks 2 minutes after the tablets are dispensed. It then moves half a compartment so she can see none on the left side (taken) and the next tablets due on the right side. This helps her confidence when she can see what’s coming next. You can set the alarm tone, in our case to something not too alarming. I would recommend this product, it has been a god send to us as I can now be confident about the tablets being taken.

Brilliant and effective medicine dispenser.
Revolutionised the dispensation of medicine for an elderly family member that was prone to forgetting and then double dosing medicine. We now set up morning and evening medication for two week periods. Alarm goes off (cannot be ignored) and no more overdosing. Of course if you need to set it up for three times a day, you will not get a two week rotation. Brilliant invention nonetheless the less.

Good product
Updated review although I note my previous 3 star review wasn't published....Having used the machine for a few weeks now its proved reliable. Fairly easy to use but need to be used in our case with the tipper to prove effective. Negatives are its loud, the door mechanism can be easily broken so not for everyone but suitable for early stage Alzheimer's.

Buy advance model if you want timed stop function
I don't usually ever do reviews but make the exception here because this product has truely made the difference between my mum staying independent and needing full time live in care. After ending up in hospital after an accidental overdose of her Parkinson's medications we needed a solution. She has significant short term Memory loss and whilst this won't work for ever for mild and moderate memory issues I would say it's great. I actually purchased 2 boxes: 1 of the pivotel advance and 1 of the more basic model. She has 6 doses a day and this allows me to load a full weeks worth of tablets between the two boxes with the start and stop timer functions so they run back to back. If you are looking to buy this product to use in this way I would def recommend getting 2 of the advance models, with hindsight I wish I had done this. Whilst the more. Basic version has a timed start function it does not have a timed stop function meaning that you could have two boxes going off at the same time which could be confusing. With the advanced model you can turn the fist box off when the second one kicks in. Had i realised this I would have got both of the advAnced model. Over all though it has worked brilliantly. Also pretty simple to set up. Although they aren't cheap I would highly recommend as a fraction of the cost of live in care we would now otherwise be funding. Highly recommended.

Absolute game changer for the elderly
This device is an absolute godsend. I have an elderly mother and the years have taken their toll on her ability manage her own medication. This came on suddenly and caught us out somewhat. She already had dosset boxes but having little concept of time now, these alone did not stop her double dosing. I went looking for a solution and this works perfectly. The pills are out of reach until the programmed time and the alarm is loud enough to wake her up from her naps and continues to sound until she has had the mess. The separately available tipper and bowl works very well in combination with the dispenser to provide a solution to problem I'm sure many people with elderly parents encounter. There is a big responsibility to ensure its loaded correctly and some larger pills did get stuck initially. This problem was resolved by buying a pill splitter and cutting the larger pills in half before loading into the carousel. Spare carousels are available so can be loaded in advance for quick swap over before it runs out. They are not the cheapest dispenser but it's reliable, easy to use and has removed any need for carers or family to attend 4 times a day to administer mens so has paid for itself over and over in the last 6 months. Would highly recommend this device.

Well worth the money!
Absolutely fantastic device! I was worried about spending so much money but this is well worth it. Does everything it should very well. Takes a little setting up but then it’s pretty much done. Once I’d done it a few times I no longer needed to refer to the instructions. Batteries lasted ages, well over 6 months! One thing to be aware of if using for someone suffering with dementia is that despite the ease of use at the end of the day if they are not supervised when taking them they can still absent mindedly tip them out, put them down & forget to take them, then maybe take later than they should. This was a particular problem for me as Mum is on a tablet which needs to be taken every 12 hrs. Only thing I found useless was the tiny screw supplied to secure the battery cover, it doesn’t fit, the hole is way too small. This became a problem when Mum started to fiddle one day & decided to take the batteries out! I’ve been using the plastic cover but that’s not ideal! Another thing to bear in mind is that many homes won’t take these unless they are filled by a pharmacist & have the relevant sticker on them. I’ve not yet found a pharmacy who will fill one!
