D'Addario Accessories XLR8 String Lubricant/Cleaner

D'Addario is a really good and trusted brand and this string lubricant/cleaner works well. It is a small, plastic container with an applicator similar to what you might see in a shoe shine kit to polish your shoes (if anyone does that anymore :). Anyway, I like it because it makes the strings smoother and less squeaky on my acoustic guitar strings for chording and finger picking. This jar lasts only about a few months and I didn't realize at the time you can re-charge it with a small bit of mineral oil.

The D'Addario XLR8 String Lubricant/Cleaner is excellent and great to use. Works wonderfully on any string instrument, guitars acoustic & electric, bass, mandolin, banjo. Highly recommended.

So, this stuff seems to keep strings fresh. I wipe down with applicator pad after playing. It adds some lube so fingers glide smoother thru changes and may slightly decrease string noise. It definitely seems to help condition my fingertips.....as they have been much smoother and less callouses since using this stuff. I feel like I am addicted to the string lube/cleaner. Note that the people complaining about empty containers and stuff must not realize how this stuff works. The container holds an premoistened applicator pad with a grip and cover. So you take the cover off of the applicator pad and use the applicator pad grip to hold on to while you rub the applicator pad on the strings. When you are done you put the cover on the applicator pad and then put the applicator pad with cover into the screw cap case to keep it from drying out. There is no additional lubricant in the case, as it is already on the pre lubed pad. For the money it seems like a worthwhile investment to me and works as it should.

Why did you pick this product vs others?: So often in the guitar world you here, read or watch something dubbed "game changer." I personally don't often write reviews but on this product I think it worthy. It has improved my string sound, my playing ability and my callous maintenance. My expectations were that it would kinda help but it really is a game changer for me. Thanks for a very fine product. Used on three guitars and play on average 3 hours a day. One can of this treatment lasted 2 months.

Excelente accesorio

I have purchased other brands and they appear to have much more lubricant than this one. It seems like it is dried out. I just restrung my 12 string so I’ll give it a chance and see if my fingers can feel a difference If it helps I’ll edit the 3 stars to a higher number. This was not available for a long time I’m just wondering if it is old stock and that’s why the pad is dry ?

i got a little piece of foam....which i guess is the applicator...and an empty jar, no lubricant or cleaner at all.....what a waste of money.....will not buy again

Bought this as it seemed impossible to get my hands on a (normally priced) can of GHS Fast Fret, which I've been using for 20 years. This D'Addario sponge system works pretty well, but it dries out fast (even when always putting the cap back on and without a lot of usage). It's not Fast Fret, but you could do worse.

great string cleaner, does what it claims. I got a bass used bass and strings are not cheap for a 5 string, they seemed to be in good condition but lacked that new freshness. This cleaner in my opinion did the job I needed it to and saved me money so very happy. would buy again for sure.
